Texas Fits, Anything goes thread
#4081
Today was an interesting day at school. We (2-3 other guys and I) had to swap the TPMS sensors over from the OEM 16s to a set of gunmetal Drag DR-9s, balance them and mount them on a SSM Navi GE8.
It was an interesting experience since we didn't have an open lift at the time so we had to use a floor jack and jack stands, had to go get longer gorilla key lug nuts (the factory and Mutkie [spelling?] lugs were to short to get to with the socket), and try to minimize the amount of "chiefs in the kitchen" so to speak because the majority of the classes (like 12-16 people) were either standing around watching the work being done or jumping the gun and making us have to back track to fix their mistakes.
Long story short, after 2 1/4 hours of balancing tires, running around for nuts, and mounting them up resulted in this.
Hopefully the owner, ceramics teacher at the college, will join up here once I send E-mail her the pics and the link to this post.
Edit: Also according to the owner, her TPMS did not illuminate when she took it around the block. So, that said (and if it still holds true, will ask her tomorrow) Fits with TPMS will not need to be reset if one decides to swap wheels unless of course a new sensor is introduced to the system. At which point the system will need to be recalibrated to accept said new sensor.

Not a bad choice of wheels for a SSM. Ceramics teacher eh?

A little update on my ge8: Wasted some money today and ordered a K&N Typhoon and some other little bits. I have absolutely no time anymore due to work, or I'd have the swifts on there too. I'd hate to just pay someone to install them. I'm just trying to find the time to get the damn lost motion spring recall now, instead.
As for deciding to ricer-up and get an intake. I need a little noise so that other cars can hear me a little better, and if I get the 4.5 or whatever whp for a day, that will be fun. Mainly, I like the throttle response I know I will gain with it. Throttle controller is probably going to get lumped in with the order, but I'm waiting to hear back from one of those cryptic threads where you have to PM the OP to get the secret deal that everyone gets anyways.

Agreed, the gunmetal looks pretty sweet on SSM. Its a very monotone look in itself (the color alone) yet its not too over the top since chrome lip of the wheels and chrome gorilla keys help balance it out.
Originally though, she (the owner) wanted to put purple lugs on but due to the size of the supplied socket and wheel design, the lugs were too short; so if we tried to tighten them, the socket would scratch the face of the wheel.
As far as your springs, I'd definitely wait to install them yourself. No need shell out cash on something that can be done with a jack and couple of stands. I noticed on the GE as I removed the tires that the rear springs look they could be easily removed once you lift the car up on the rear jack points, the front on the other hand I can't say since I didn't really look at it.

It's easy peasy, but I know a guy with some space, jacks, and some ratcheting wrenches that will fit into the cowl opening instead of needed to take it off when using standard sockets.
What are the specs on the wheels? Width/offset?

Ah, I thought those might be 195s. I'm sold. That is the perfect "oem +" look once lowered a bit. I dig theEvileOne's 195 17s too. 205s look a bit chunky, add a little weight, and increase the chances of rubbing. Most JDM fits seem to run 195s, but I think they are more restricted in their rules for these types of things by their government.
The wheel calculator shows that the maximum distance out from the original (sticking out/adding width to car) is .7", which is the exact same as 16X7 +45 on 205/50s. So, from an angle, they should add extra "stance" but only with that low offset, which is not preferable to my handling goals. We'll see. I might have to look into it when the time comes. I think 16X7 BBS RG-Fs only come in +40.

Hey, as some of you know I'm selling my old Work wheels xt7. I'm selling them for very cheap and willing to negotiate prices. I need garage space.
the $900 is for the craigslist people. I'm actually selling for $800. That gives whoever enough money to order one rim and still be cheap. Toss me a PM if interested. I want these gone asap.

^^^^ That's a pretty good price Marcus. But I'm so glad to see the new set of RPF-1's on there. I think they look WAY better.
FYI, Rene is selling his Sprint Harts as well. I'm sure he would cut a deal for a fellow Fit Freak.
