I checked my trip today and it read a top speed of 61mph and an average of 34mph. That sounds about right actually.

On a side note, I saw 41.6 for a few miles and when I pulled in the garage, it read 41.1 for the trip, woooo hoooo!!!!

i might be having an issue with my SG. my first tank was like 100mpg. ok, it's new and doesn't know my car yet. well, i filled up at about half tank. NOW, it's saying anywhere from 10 to 0 mpg. has anyone had this issue? im going on tank #4. ive checked my specs. 1.5 liter engine 11 gallon tank. HALP!

My bad, the one computer I post on does some wack shit sometimes. solbrothers, set your tank to 10 gal instead of 11 and see what happens.

I always go to fill and tell it the new gas cost and hit save.

OK here some more stuff.

I tried to understand the gains from eng shut off at a long light. So with stop watch in hand, I did some testing this week. To be honest doing this over a full week of each would be better, but I just did this 2 day test. Id' like to see another SG user that has lights try it too.

My normal drive is:
3 miles at 45 posted and 8 lights
followed by 18 miles of turnpike 60 to 65 (I have sunpass so do not have to stop) and
6 miles of 45 posted and about 10 more lights.

Poor to no light sync.
The lights can range from 30 sec to over 2 mins

SG says 40mph avg and 1.2 hrs for this RT

Monday and Tuesday I may of stoped the eng at a light 1 time per leg and SG said 41.3mpg for RT
Today I stopped it 4 to 5 times, per leg. I did nor record the total time off but every time it was in excess of 60sec and some more than 2 min. Today SG read 43.8mpg for RT

+2.5mpg on a 52mile hike



Said it before. With my SG you can see the trip mpg just click downward when at a light. Of course the longer the trip the less it moves, but at the start of the trip it's amazing to see how fast a 2 min light can take an earned 41 to 36mpg as you wait.

So on my little test the gain was 2.5mpg.
So for my 20kmiles per year and current fuel cost that's about $100/ year

I could give a crap if ones that don't like this are scared or whatever. This is for those that like to see those 40+ average aver fill and are willing to work some to save gas.

BTW on my shut off method. I do shut off and coast in when it's certain it's a long light (I know the ones now). I have tried to waste the vac reserve to see what the brakes would be like with no power assist and even with 15 pumps for no reason other that to try it still had plenty of assist. Does the steering get stiff, yes but it's not hard to make a lane change/ Of course it would be harder to turn a 180 but that's not at all or every will be needed doing this.

I'm an ele eng and can verify this does not effect battery life at all. It will take life from the starter for sure, but the starter is designed for in excess of 1,000,000 starts. Do the math if you want to see how many that is per day over the life of the car.

Whooaa uno-momento. Doesn't your EPS stay on during a FAS?? Mine cuts out in ACC (about 1 sec) but maybe 400ms after I click back to ON I have full power steering assist again.

And you're right about the short trips. Scary watching the trip FE plummet like that when stopped.

Edit: one comment about the battery life, but a night time FAS can't be too long. The headlights get noticeably dim when the engine is stopped, even for 10 seconds. then brighten back up about 1.5-2 sec after restarting. Haven't done a nighttime FAS yet with the SG to determine what the voltage drops to though.

Yes sir EPS is dead the second I click her off, but the steering get's stiff not locked or all that hard to turn. Try it and you'll see. no big deal at all.

FAS = Forced Auto Stop = turning off the engine.

When you kill the engine, aren't you turning the ignition back to on? I dont think you should leave it in ACC any longer than it takes to stop the engine spinning, then go right back to ON.
My EPS continues to run.

I'm moving too sometimes, but it's not too far and 99% of the time straight to a stop at a light. I would not run without EPS if at hi-way speeds with eng off.

Quick question on gas fill up. Today was the first fill up since I got the SG. After filling up, i went to fillup on the SG and set the gal. i put in to match the pump. Now, do you need to adjust the fuel cost considering gas prices change frequently?

Yes that is the one thing I say to do if you want the Cost cals right.

You will find it's like chasing your tail to adjust the gal to match the pump, Just leave the SG as it is. You will find that the Fit fill will vary even if you do it the exact same way each time. Mine can vary +/-1/2 gal. One week it's more the next less.


I have a small correction like 1%.

Try to set up one of the X guages as AFE (average fuel economy) and set it to either current or trip. Doing it that way, I can watch the AFE as I drive and it gives you an accurate number as you're driving.

Dave, on the VERY first tank you fill up with the SG, you don't correct the gals used. You can on subsequent tanks, but as Paul said you dont have to necessary.

This has been bothering me. Can someone who's driving MT tell me what the realtime mpg is at 45mph in 4th gear and then in 5th gear? I'm not sure which is the best gear to be in at that speed.
