This stinks. I just put in my seventh tank. 87 octane, either Exxon or (preferably) BP. My milage has actually gone down slightly, from an average of about 25.5-26.5 mpg to 24.8 mpg. No discernable difference in driving habit or pattern. In fact, I made a big deal out of NOT using the paddle shifters at all. What gives? Is there a yeti lodged in my intake track?!
White Sport AT. I really feel as though I should be getting AT LEAST five solid mpg more than I am. Most of the other list members here say that they feel 30mpg (American) is on the "low" side. This is really beginning to bum me out. Almost 2k miles on the car now. I know it's not "fully" broken in, but I expected *some* improvement by now. Of course the dealer says to give it time. But I'm worried that I will "give it time" and then when I can "prove" that there's a problem, the warrantee will be over and I'll be stuck.

That is really lousy mileage for a 1.5 litre engine. I got 20-26 MPG on my 2003 Nissan Altima SE with the 3.5 and automatic! I'm averaging 33-37 mpg on any gas (87 octane) driving fast, slow, with AC. (Sport MT).
Filled up yesterday. Got my best mileage yet - 32mpg. I did do more highway driving on this tank and I had the air on most of the time. I'm hoping to get a little better without the air on. Overall, I'm pretty happy. I have a Base Automatic.
Just got our Fit on Friday. Automatic Sport Storm Silver. Put over 400 miles on it already over the weekend, about 60% highway, 20% city driving, and 20% 2-lane highway driving for fun. All with A/C on low the entire time. We got 38.29 MPG! And this was the first tank with dealer gas.
We hit the halfway mark on the gauge at about 195 miles, the low fuel light came on at 340 miles, and we finally fueled up at 358.2. We only had to put in 9.355 gallons of gas. I imagine this may get worse as my daily commute is usually in stop-and-go, but so far I'm impressed, especially since the AT seems to be getting lower numbers.

90% highway, 10% traffic jam. AC all the way. Mostly uphill where the Fit couldn't maintain higher speeds without downshifting badly and revving it way up there.

I live in Queens NYC, and my new fit is going to get probably 24-25 MPG on this tank (my 3rd tank since I got it). All city driving, frequent short trips and cold starts. However, I took my FIT to central PA on ALL highway driving, and I got 34.6 MPG (310+ miles). In addition, my wife has a 01' Civic that can get 35MPG pure highway, but Ive been driving that to work lately, and Im getting 25MPG. So although Im not happy either, I think it is just the nature of short commutes that is getting the FIT way below EPA estimates, not anything that is wrong with the FIT per se.

I agree with you about the mpg on the Fit A/T. I drive 10 miles to work, then less then 2 miles to lunch, back to work, and 10 miles home M-F. I do a little highway on week-end and I my lowest mpg was 26, my highest was 31.5 mpg.

Sport AT - First fill -up. 253 miles on the car (Dealer tank) had to do it then since I have a long commute.
75% highway 25% suburban mild stop/go, driving conservatively in D. No paddle shifting. Added 7.643 gallons = 33.1 mpg. Since this was a dealer tank and I have no clue if they stopped early, topped off, etc etc - not really reliable - but it seems in line with what most have been seeing for the AT Sport.
SHould have more reliable numbers on the next fill up - I pu about 100miles/ day with my commute...
I think I'm the only person that's not doing so well.
I didn't start keeping track till my third fill up - and only started to then because I thought something was wrong...

On average I'm getting 26 mpg.
I've got an automatic sport, don't use the paddle shifters, and always drive in D.
I don't accelerate rapidly, don't speed up to break hard at stop lights...
I'm a conservative driver (I drive a limo for a job - it's hard to drive in a sporty fashion when you're used to worrying about people in the back) - I've gotten 22.5 MPG in the limo on a trip to Vegas. It's a 2001 lincoln towncar 100 inch stretch.
So... I don't think it's my driving that's causing my mileage to suck.
WOW! Yeah limo drivers definitely dont accelerate fast...its all about the smooth ride. You should consider taking the car to the dealer and let them check your ECU or something who knows. Something isnt right for sure.
I didn't know what to tell them to check though.
Just for fun... what's an ECU? Engine cooling unit?
And... the only reason I'm guessing that - the "engine cool" light is on almost every time I start the car - and stays on for up to about 45 seconds.
It says if it's on at "normal operating tempuratures" to take it in...
But what are normal operating tempuratures?
70 and humid, or normal engine running tempurature?
Also, if you have been doing a lot of city driving, your mpg looks about what others have been getting in similar driving conditions. I did notice you got 28 on the freeway.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I'm averaging less than that!
What's your normal commute distance? I was told by a friend of mine that short trips may not heat the engine enough for it to be efficient.
My one-way distance to work is about 7 miles. The terrain is a bit hilly. The driving condition involves me trying to catch the train every morning, so I'm not so easy on the gas, and I'm currently redlining the engine every 2 days or so. It's also hard to stay at a cruising speed since I need to make frequent turns and stops.

It's about 12 miles, fairly hilly with stoplights and such...
But they're fairly large roads (4 lane...) with speed limits of 55 most of the way, and the lights are usually green. There aren't very many of them either.
I guess - it's not so much the total average as it is when I've been driving on the freeway.
Yes... the city performance SHOULD be better, but the freeway performance is horrible.
