I'm doing a lot better with the MPG. I don't know if this is due to the tire inflation or breaking-in, but I am usually at 150 miles at my gas' half mark. But now, I'm hitting 170 at the half mark. This is looking promising, and I am at almost 1,000 miles on the car. Tire pressure up to 38 PSI all around.
My first fill (30mpg) was at chevron. My second fill (30mpg) was at Arco. The improvement came when I filled it up with Exxon, and pumped my tires up to 38 PSI. It was at 31 PSI before.
First non-dealer tank of gas. 50/50 highway/city driving, A/C on 95% of the time (hey, this is PHOENIX - we hit 118 last week!). 318.3 miles, 9.8 gallons = 32.47 MPG. Not too shabby with all that A/C.
The fuel light went on at 300.2 on the trip meter - this roughly means that there was 1.5 gallons left. When I fueled up at 318.3, the gas needle was pointing directly at the red mark and there was still 1 gallon left in the tank.
Just drove from Phoenix to Las Vegas and back.
1: Me and MrsT; 20 miles city, the rest 55-75, but VERY HILLY - LOTS OF GRADE CHANGES. A/C on 1/3 of the time. 169.2 miles, 5.23 gallons = 32.75. She did have to work a bit to go uphill @ 70MPH with A/C.
2. Me and MrsT; mostly hilly highway, but LV Strip driving was near dead-stop. A/C on 100% of the time. 269.0 miles, 8.59 gallons = 31.31 MPH. So far, I'm pleased - and optimistic that, once we leave A/C season, she'll go even higher....

What kind of gas mileage (or kilometerage) are people getting with their fits?
Please indicate transmission type, percent highway/city, and highway speed.
Thanks - I am curious to see how the Fit does compared to its EPA numbers. Some cars barely get the highway figure, and others are way over.
I've had my Fit Sport since May 19th. I got 30 mpg on the 1st tank. Most of my driving is highway at 65 to 70 mph. I do some in town driving with little starting and stopping. Right now I am getting between 25 and 27 mpg average. I have had it into the dealer for a fuel test which they can't seem to get done. Have to take it back on Monday for a mileage test. They told me that the other Fit Sport owner that bought his a month before I got mine is getting between 35 and 40 mpg. I am definetly not happy with the mpg. I would have bought an Accord or maybe a Toyota had I known it wasn't going to do any better than it's getting. My Fit has an Automatic transmission and I don't use the paddle shifters very much if at all. I am well into the break in period by now - I have 4200 miles on the odometer.

The fuel test - they run all the computer codes to make sure everything is set correctly and the mileage test they top off the tank and drive on the highway about 60 miles and turn around and top off the tank again and check the mileage. They had me do the same test and I still only got 26 mpg. The mileage was the main reason we bought the Fit over a Corolla, the Fit had alittle more backseat room ( I needed to get a carseat and 2 booster seats in there) so I would really like to see them get better mpg for me. I love the way it handles and it is a much quieter ride than the Corollo.
1st tank fill-up today. 225 miles, 8.87 gallons. 25.3mpg. This was the dealer's tank, so I'm not too worried. I also did a lot of stop-n-go traffic getting to/from work on this tank.
I'm also in california and am also very disappointed..
First tank is 26mpg
second tank is 28 mpg.. AT Sport and 90% highway driving.
I would be happy if I got 32-34.. the low end of the highway driving..
People say to wait for it to break in.. but i've read where others are getting over 30's on their first two tank so it what does that mean? Something must be wrong with some cars.. i mean to not even meet the min for city driving (31mpg) is sad... i was hoping to get mid 30's.. but i doubt it will ever happen...

what do you use to test ur tires? i was looking at one of those combo gauge at walmart.. with built in air pump.. what do you guys think?

I picked up a foot pump for $6 at walmart and check the tire pressure about once a week to make sure they're at 38PSI cold.
For my breakin, I drove it lightly for the first 600 miles, after that, I switched it to S mode and revved every gear to 4k rpm, and slowly up to 5k rpm as time goes to continue conditioning the engine. I need to redline, but I don't drive far enough to allow my engine to fully warm up for me to really go crazy.
Here's another thing to try.. When you fill up and tighten the gas tank cap, try pushing down on the cap and tightening it just a bit more to prevent it from loosening up. I notice that my cap felt a little loose even as it already reached its clicking point. So with this tightening, I believe it may have something to do with my better MPG. I also remember on my old accord, I got bad MPG and once found that the spark plugs were not fully torqued tightened to specs and so the engine didn't get it's proper combustion efficiency. Check that too.
Oh, and for the tire guage, I use the one from walmart that is a digital keychain. Reads in 1/2 increments.
2nd tank is doing better already. I'm at about 215 miles with at least a quarter of a tank left. My first tank we only got 225 miles before the light went on.

Yes, but if you increase your tire pressure by a bit, it provides less rolling resistance which helps to improve gas mileage. As long as you don't go completely overboard with the increase you will be fine.
I have my fronts set to 36-38 and the rears at 34 w/o problems. Gas mileage about 32-35 mpg.

Just filled it up and hit 34 combined 60/40 highway/city. Air conditioning on 100% of the time (been about 95-100 here lately), auto tranny, modest accel keeping rpms <4k most of the time and 38psi on all four corners. Last fill was 30.5 mpg with 32 mpg in the tires. Thats the only thing I have changed but I cant imagine that it accounts for >10% improvement. The car has ~3400 miles on it and still with factory oil.
Also alot of people posted that it was a rougher ride with pumping up the tires a bit, but I havent noticed any difference in ride quality. Its quiet on hard cornering now too, and seems to hold a bit better, but not sure if its just me or not. I have a very sharp on-ramp to a parkway that I used to have to take it at about 30 mph in my 03 alero, can do it with ease at 45-50 now (impressed with the Fit's handling) much to my wife's dismay. Enough of a tangent...but mpg keep getting better. Hopefully it will continue.
we just got our's and i cant wait to see, my wife drives from an 2800ft elevation to a 6200ft elevation every day. range is 27 miles...so we're very intersted in seeing what our mpg will be. my wife said she keeps it a 40-45 mph on the way up to keep the rpms below 3200 since it has just 52 miles on break in......has been driving it on d mode, and it is a sport automatic.....one bad thing is i know the dealer didnt fill casue on my way home at 15 miles on the odometer, the gas gauge fell a tad below full.......

when you get too low doesn't your fuel pump kick in and take away from those numbers?

Less fuel = lighter load = better fuel mileage. Not too low, bad for pump.
Might want to check your tire pressure. I've noticed these Dunlops seem to be more permeable than the Michelins I'm used to. Seem to loose pressure much faster, but the same all around.
