Just buy the fob and follow the manual's instructions for programming it (actually you're programming the car to recognize the fob). You could re-key the ignition and doors for the new key but that's really a waste of money.

That isn't what he asked.
You can't program a key for a system that doesn't exist in early base model Fit's.
I bought a fob for my friend's 2010 Fit Base and it worked.
So how about this- find a friend with a Honda and see if you can program your car to let their fob open the door. If that works then you'll know it works. Just make sure it's a friend who won't steal your stuff!
To be clear this still requires pressing the button on a fob. If you mean can you leave the fob in your pocket and have the door unlock when you touch the handle, then no, NWCH is right- that system isn't built into the car.
I did this myself on my 2010 base. I bought OE keys and took it to the dealership. The chip was programmed for my starter circuit and follow the manual to program the locks. Works great for the last 10 or 11 years and still working well.
If the OP is in the US, they would have a GD in 2008. Not sure if Waterford is the one in Ireland or else where. The below pertains to a GD Fit just in case...
If you look at the Part Fitment section, you'll see that this module is only in higher trim level Honda's of that era. It wasn't until later generations that keyless was built in.
So, at minimum for a GD Fit, you need that module and a couple of keys. Probably cheaper to do something aftermarket.
I'm having the same set of issues with 08 Base Fit with NO installed Keyless module.
therefore,
the kits you can buy from Amazon etc. will not have anywhwere to plug into.
I and others on this topic need the harness which seems to be the missing key piece.
I'd be interested in trying to 3d print the connectors if I could get a good schematic of the harness. This is from my 08 FIT sport that has the keyless entry, my 08 base is missing this module and harness. the harness for the keyless module plugs into the open socket just below the two wire yellow plug in the center of this pic. closer view. obviously this particular base 08 fit does not have the Keyless option since it is missing the module and harness.
