Fit - a set on Flickr

Take a look at mugen666's post re: Canadian Navi (great thread by the way). The trim on mine looks just like that.

@SteveInNC, I saw your post (another good one), and was considering going around the back. I'm thinking that I may want to go that route when/if I put a small sub in the back. How did you run your mic wire?

@vwli, Good thread as well. I will keep that pin/wire in mind for VSS the next time I am back there. Wiring up harnesses is no biggie for me, since if I screw something up I can always get a new one, but tapping factory wires makes me nervous. Is there any other benefit than keeping the nav going through a tunnel? I really like the idea of putting the gps under the dash, I may give that a try this afternoon just for kicks. I'll aso ask where you ran your mic wire?
My Eclipse HU comes with a built in mic. I did not need to run wire for external mic.

Just moved GPS antenna and mic. Put the GPS antenna directly on top of the center vents (between the top of the ducts and the dash plastic). Fits great and I get the same quality of signal.

Also routed the mic cord around the drivers side (under the steering column). I pulled out the weather strip in the door and routed the wire up behind the plastic that way. Looks much better now with no wires showing.

Thanks for your help guys.

That's pretty much what I did. I ran the mic across various parts behind the dash, then under the trim and side airbag plastic cover on the driver's side ("B" pillar) and up to the roof liner, then along the inside edge of the roof liner to the area behind the rearview mirror. I have it clipped to the roof liner.

I've thought about putting it in the area of the fuel gauge, since that is a fairly empty cowling, and it would probably do a better job of isolating the mic from road noise. I just can't figure out a decent wiring route (that doesn't look like crap).

How is searching through the iPod with this head unit? Is it much easier than stock which takes forever? Anyone got an updated parts list?

Can anyone confirm before i mess up the dash. There is a little slit in the upper glove box. do i just start from there prying it outward...than that should be it and it pops off? I have read where people pulled to hard and bent their bracket.
This is for a 09 fit btw

Once I got it wide enough for the fingers, I went along the top edge. Be prepared to break a nail or two. The dash comes out at an angle, if I recall correctly. Not straight up or straight forward. In any case, don't just pull on that one end where the slit is. Have a bit of patience, it will wiggle its way out with even force from all sides. Also, I have taken that part of the dash off many a times and let me tell ya, it's still in there tight. Honda quality, ftw. Good luck.
Where is the bolt at exactly? Im going to start on the wiring tonight and the actual install tomorrow.
thank you for your help

Does the scorshe kit come with everything needed for the install?

The answer to your question is yes, well kind of. It comes with all the trim pieces. No wiring harness or antenna adapter. It comes with the double din replacement panel, double din stereo bracket and faceplate gap cover. I purchased the Metra antenna adapter and the Metra wiring harness someone else on this forum recommended (the wiring harness did not work, the unit was hard wired). All trim pieces are included and you can't beat the fit for $30.

So, can anyone confirm whether the scosche trim has an issue at the top right corner? I think someone mentioned it didn't actually align correctly?

I can't speak for anyone else, but the scosche kit I purchased off eBay fits like a charm. I don't know whether you're speaking off the top right corner of the trim piece where it meets the upper glove box or the top right corner of the interior rectangle where the headunit sits? But, I have posted images of my install with the Scosche kit from both sides in another thread I made labeled 'Another GE double din install'. The only thing that bugged me was, if you look closely, the right side of the inner rectangle on the OEM dash replacement piece had a little bit of a 'boogered' up edge about an inch long. It can from scosche like that, but I'm over it now.

I was referring to the comment on this post, towards the end... but now I realize (I think?) that was in reference to the 1st gen Fit, not the 09...

To Scosche or not to Scosche...

I've read about a dozen threads on this topic but I'm still unclear on what the advantage is of the Scosche kit over the OEM nav panel. It sounds like this latest generation Scosche kit (GE) fits better than the previous (GD), but it's still pretty hard to beat OEM fit and finish. Somebody in one thread mentioned that there may be a gap between the OEM navi piece and an aftermarket double DIN deck, but I never saw any pics showing this.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Which is what I couldnt figure out so I ordered the metra kit instead. Some were saying the scosche had a gap, and another guy posted a pic with the scosche installed and it had a blemish on the plastic around the headunit. Those two things were enough for me to choose the metra instead.

There is a gap. The OEM piece does not come with a trim ring. I suspect that the OEM nav unit has one fitted or molded to it, as opposed to it being a separate piece. If you install a conventional 2Din unit, like the Pioneer F90Bt, there is about a 1/8"-1/4" gap between the headunit and the OEM dash panel piece on all sides. Several people have apparently found that a trim ring from a Pilot works here, as per post #2 in this thread (Note: no one ever seems to list the model year for said part...). I have a friend who is an installer - he gave me a couple of random trim rings to try. One seems to be a decent fit, but requires some trimming and will need something like double-sticky tape to hold it in place.

Given that it's out now, I'd choose the Metra kit over the OEM. I installed using the OEM before the Metra kit was available.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. Metra it is. I didn't actually realize they had a kit when I first asked, I thought it was either stock or Scosche...

Alright. I feel I should update since I chose the metra over the scosche. Firstly, the color match is pretty close, but in direct sunlight you can tell it is a bit different. As for fit and finish all the way around the kit fits just like stock. One part however that had more of a gap than stock was the a/c vent to silver plastic. It has about 1/8" gap on some spots that I'll admit kinda bother me, but Im a perfectionist. The trim ring was a nice touch to cover up the gap around the head unit, but unfortunatley my trim ring was a little bent when it got to me so I'll have to straighten it back out so it looks perfect. Install was pretty straight forward, but the clips that hold the stock headunit in were a little overkill.

I'll update this post with pics when I get around to cleaning my interior.
