  • Stereo (I picked the AVIC-F90BT)
  • OEM Honda Navi dash (I got mine at Bernardi) - 77251-TF0-G01ZA
  • OEM Honda Navi bracket (I got mine at Bernardi) - 77255-TF0-000
  • Metra wiring harness - 70-1729
  • Metra antenna adapter - 40-HD10
  • Used the Metra kit for the Honda Pilot for the faceplate surround. It's not a perfect fit, but it works.
I'm not doing a full DIY because I think the installation is pretty straightforward. I've never wired anything before or worked with car electronics before, and it's not a big deal. The metra wiring harness comes with a listing of what color wire matches what, and you just have to solder it to the wiring harness for the F90BT or whatever stereo you end up with. After that, you pretty much just plug everything in and you're good to go. You'll have to run the USB cable from the F90BT to where the USB cable is in the glove box (if that's where you want it to go), but you can just pull out the lower glove box and it's a piece of cake.

Questions welcome.
Hi,

I'm a little confused.
What's the difference between (in function)

OEM Honda Navi bracket (I got mine at Bernardi) - 77255-TF0-000

and

Used the Metra kit for the Honda Pilot for the faceplate surround. It's not a perfect fit, but it works.

the oem honda navi braket, is the console/dash part of it,
but the problem with the oem bracket is it is made for the oem navi heaunit, so it will leave a gap around the aftermarket headunits, cause they are smaller 2din
so the metra honda pilot kit has a trim ring that is used to fill that gap

I see; thanks for clarifying.

So if I want to go OEM, I need a workaround such as using the metra pilot kit.

Overall, is the metra honda fit kit a better fit then?

yes, i think the metra honda fit dash kit is a better fit for the aftermarket headunits, but in my opinion the metra kit's color is not as close match than the oem, which is why i went with the oem kit, and live with the less than perfect fit for the headunit

Does anyone have any pics of how to mount the pilot trim ring using the factory panel. I have the kit and the panel, just want to see how you guys did it so I don't screw anything up.

Thanks!

maybe it's burried in these post somewhere, but wouldn't a dash kit that's NOT designed to ONLY fit the OEM navi work better such as this one:
Scosche HA1708B - Dash Kits - Sonic Electronix

Just thought I'd point it out to make everybodies job easier if it wasn't mentioned already. That way you wont need to buy another trim piece to make it fit. Plus it's cheaper than the OEM dash piece but looks like it includes the brackets as well...

I tried the Scosche kit the first time but switched to the OEM bracket and trim. The aftermarket ones are "OK" but you will notice there is a slight color difference and the fit and finish isn't as nice.

Also the OEM is metal and mounts to the rest of the dash with screws. The aftermarket solutions are all plastic. I could rip out the entire stereo with one good tug, its much harder with the OEM.

Im just gonna throw this out there because im not sure if anyone said it but you get an entire installation kit free (129.00 worth) when you order the receiver from crutchfield.com

Ive used that site for every car ive owned because its just a dang good deal to get the bezels, and harnesses free with almost every receiver either double din or not. Check it out.

I want to replace my Metra Kit with OEM for the color match. So to clarify:

1) Do I just need the OEM Honda Navi dash - 77251-TF0-G01ZA & OEM Honda Navi bracket - 77255-TF0-000?

2) Is it safe to assume the Metra Kit trim piece for the Fit will be able to fill the gap in the OEM kit?

Thanks so much everyone!

1- yes

2- no, the metra kit trim piece for the honda fit will not sit flush with the oem kit, you need to get a metra kit for a honda pilot, which is alot cheaper then the honda fit kit metra kit, i think the honda pilot metra kit is only $12

Why is it that no one just goes to crutchfield.com and buys their kit. I have it for mine and its perfect, comes with trim rings and everything...

crutchfeild kit is the metra i believe and to some the metra's color is slightly off, and also i like the oem one better because it uses metal brackets which makes it harder for thieves to steal the headunit, the metra's plastic backets seems like they can snap if sonemone pulled on the unit hard enough

the honda pilot kit you need is metra 95-7861, it is the 2003-2008 honda pilot double din dash kit

The one I received from crutchfield is the top one in the pic you posted and it came with the necessary trim ring:

The "dimmer" one goes from ground to +12 when the lights turn on. This is what the aftermarket HU's want. The "illumination" one, which is supposed to do what I just described actually is a variable voltage that changes when you dim the dash lights. Hooking this up the wrong way can lead to blown fuses or fried dash lights so it's important to test beforehand. I'm glad I did. I also downloaded the factory wiring diagram from Helm and it verified what I saw in testing - the "illumination" wire was being hooked to what the factory calls "ILL-" (pin 1 on factory connector, red wire) and the "dimmer" wire was being hooked to what the factory calls "ILL+" (pin 13 on factory connector, grey wire)... So bottom line, your HU's illumination wire needs to be routed to the grey ILL+ factory wire, regardless of how the Metra harness is labeled.

Other than that, everything else on the Metra harness matched up properly...
Does anyone have any confirmation that this is the case with the metra 70-1729 wire harness? I'm about to install my deck in a couple of days, and wanted to see if there is any insight about this problem?
