$17196 for a 2009 Fit Sport AT Milano Red. Of course I had to pay sales tax. The low bids from two different local dealers were identical. All in all, things looked slow in the Detroit area dealers.

Sweet ride.

I'm shopping around for a Fit Sport with Navigation/VSA and a dealer in the area has offered the following:

$18277 Invoice Price
$670 Destination Charge
$25 EVR fee (whatever that is)
$143 Plates and Title
$150 Doc Fee
$1195 Illinois 6.25% sales tax

$20460 Total Out the Door

This seems like a reasonable deal to me. I am not financing through the dealer, so there are no additional costs hidden inside the financing.

Any thoughts?

Sucks to be that dealer. They should wholesale it, rather than try to recondition it and sell it.

That's interesting how they quoted the factory destination charge on the sticker to you separately. It's as if they are trying to make it look like they are offering you a lower price than they really are. Why did they not just quote $18947 to you?

Hey, ds61761, that sounds like a good deal. I assume you're talking Brad Barker Honda in Bloomington? That's where I bought my Fit (and my Element in 2005 and my CR-V in 2000). You're actually getting a slightly better deal than I did--I got it for $18,430 plus the destination charge. Of course, selling it to you at invoice means they still make almost $600 profit from dealer holdback, so don't feel too sorry for them. I hope you're dealing with their Internet Sales Manager, William Manning. He's the best--and responsible for all three of my Honda purchases. I live in Springfield, but I'd rather buy from William than the pushy salesmen at the local dealership. Good luck.

By the way, the $25 EVR is for Electronic Vehicle Registration. They register your car for you electronically, so they can print you out a temporary registration when you take delivery--saves you the hassle of having to wait for that temporary registration by mail.

hi ando, the original offer was actually from bill kay honda up in bourbonnais. however, today my wife and i walked into brad barker honda and asked them to match the offer from bill kay honda. they agreed to it after a little haggling, so the final price came out like this:

$18947 vehicle price
$25 electronic vehicle registration
$151.65 doc fee
$1195.23 illinois sales tax (6.25%)
$143.43 city tax (.75%)
$143 license and title

$20605.31 out-the-door total

we did work with william manning and he was great. the finance guy, on the other hand, seemed quite angry when we declined his pitch for a non-honda extended warranty.

they are prepping the car for us now and we will go pick it up in a few minutes. we are so excited!!

Congrats, ds61761! You'll love it! What color are you getting?

William is the best. Each time I've bought from him, I never even had to talk to the Finance guy. Each time, I had already lined up my own financing, but Brad Barker's people were able to get me a better rate through Honda Financial. All I did was fill out the credit app, tell William what rate I already had, and they took care of the rest. The best part is, William has actually delivered each of my Hondas to my house--70 miles from the dealership! I have had to make only one trip to Bloomington each time (for them to appraise my trade-in), then, when my car is ready, William drives it down to me and drives my trade-in back to Bloomington. Can't get any easier than that!

Again, congrats! I'm actually going up to Bloomington for work in a few weeks; I'll keep my eyes out for you and your new Fit.

I dunno if I could justify spendin 20K plus on a fit. Even at 17500OTD for the SportAT I was not super happy about it, especially since it was about identical price as my accord coupe was brand new in 2000, which IMO is a much more substantial car, and the paint is still better looking on it than the fit's paint is now at 1 year of ownership. Is the difference just the price of the Navi? That just seems like a lot of money for a little ass car. I do love my fit, but it's the least "emotional" attachment I have had with any car I ever owned. It's my PRACTICAL Toy. I just wouldn't pay 20g's for it, thats 2 new bikes...

We are loving the new Fit Sport w/ Navi! It's Taffeta White. I'll keep an eye out for you in your Blue Sensation Pearl!

You're lucky you never had to deal with the finance guy (who i won't name). We were not financing through the dealership, but apparently that guy is the only one who can do all the official paperwork so we had to talk to him. i couldn't believe that he was pitching us a non-Honda extended warranty. with the sour economy, i would not even consider an extended warranty from some unknown company that could go belly up tomorrow, leaving me with a worthless contract. if they're going to pitch extended warranties, they should at least pitch one from honda, which is financially strong and can be expected to stay in business for the forseeable future.

anyway, when i declined the extended warranty from the unknown 3rd party company, his comeback was "what, you don't see any value in an extended warranty??" as if i had just slandered him or insulted his prized possession. the guy was red in the face and seem really pissed. perhaps there are people out there that are responsive to a pitch like that, but i'm not one of them.

anyway, we love the car and william manning was great to work with, but i could have done without the finance guy.

new here - first new car purchase

I'm getting a Fit Sport Manual with Navi in Orange Revolution

$18,355
$1606 tax (New York)
45 registration fee
10 inspection fee
12.50 - other
$20,028.56 total

I negotiated based on the Edmunds "real price" - I can see from reading the thread I didn't do brilliantly - but kind of middle of the road. Manuals with Navi aren't that easy to come by - the dealership had to swap.

thoughts?

I know some people frown upon spending $20K on a Fit, but I sold my '05 xB for $14K, so it wasn't a big deal for me to spend the extra $6 for a car that will last me 10+ years hopefully.

Last night I purchased a Silver Sport Fit M/T for $15,250! It ended up being $16,890 out the door, but this still seemed like an amazing price. I even had a dealer send a competing bid of 15,100 but he was about 80 miles away and I decided to go with the closer one (especially considering i liked the closer one's sales guy and they had run my credit already).

My first new car!

janecc, i think you did fine. you paid a couple hundred bucks above invoice, but you got what you wanted. as you mentioned, the models with manual transmission and navi are hard to find. they will be even harder to find when gas prices spike above 3 bucks later this summer.

i was in a similar position. we wanted a white fit sport auto with navi, and only a couple of dealers in our area had that. since they had the specific model that we wanted and the price was fair, we decided to move forward rather than risk waiting and not being able to get that specific model. my local dealer has not received any new fits for several months now, and i am convinced that honda is running down the inventory of fits in the usa. could have something to do with the dollar weakening against the yen.

i've bought nearly 20 cars and never have had an issue trying to make a deal. the dealers in kansas city think fits are worth gold and tell me how rare and hard to find they are with 20+ fits on every dealers lots. ive went to and called about 10 dealers and they all want either sticker or $300 off thats it WTF with hondas sales really down i'd figure the'd be willing to deal. im writing a check for it though so maybe they arent as willing to deal because they arent getting kick back from a finance company?

Just get a cashier's check written out to the dealer, for the exact amount OUT THE DOOR you are willing to pay for the Fit. Then go to a dealer (preferably one you haven't been to already, so they won't lose face) and politely say you want the specific vehicle in such color and such features, and that you already have the check written out, and you will make it quick and easy for them. It has always worked for me, especially good if you walk in the last day of the month. They just can't say no, unless your price is absurd.

Go to edmunds.com and find out the dealer's invoice price, and add $300 on top of it. Then add another $275 for documentary fee, title, registration, and your state tax. That's the check amount you'll write to them.

They just can't say no...!
