Reality just hates electric supercharging.

 

I had just assumed that there was no design of axial fan that could generate a decent pressure ratio. This requires more reading. There's no substitute for a turbo powered by waste energy but just the idea of an electric supercharger is fun to think about. I mean turning mechanical energy into electrical energy and back into mechanical energy doesn't really make sense from an efficiency standpoint but it's still fun to play with. Although we are really storing energy from times when we don't care about efficiency to use at times when we do care.

 

That's actually what's surprising to me because the electrical to mechanical and mech to electrical is one of the more efficient processes; typically less than 5% energy lost. I'm surprised because that means that the waste energy from the exhaust is huge. I must have missed that day in thermodynamics.

 

What would happen if you bumped the voltage to 16 and run a dual 12/16 on the motor and ecu then run 16 volts/18 volts on the Dyson? I remember years ago they did the 12/16 volts on a engine and had a big improvement in power.

 

A quick google for "axial compressor" cleared up my misconceptions. Isn't learning fun!? Interestingly a single stage axial fan can still produce 7-8 psi.

Well, your typical gas motor is only 20-35% efficient on their best day. So think of all that heat escaping out the tailpipe that could be used for a better purpose...

 

It does make me wonder why hybrids go through the regenerative braking nonsense instead of sticking a turbine on the exhaust. I blame Carnot.

 

Well I understand that, they are not necessarily mutually exclusive, they are just reclaiming some of that kinetic energy that would otherwise be lost to heat with traditional brakes.

Both would be a good idea.

Frankly the atkinson cycle engine in a commuter car is not a fantastic plan as the average commuter has no idea of how to take advantage of their narrow efficiency range..

 

Same company that came up with the VTES has the TIGERS. TIGERS is basically an alternator powered by exhaust gas. There could be some interesting applications for it.

Think it could be done with just the 3M tape? I'm iffy about drilling into the body of her.

 

i was iffy too but ran into a fluke
i thought i would have to drill all the way through but nope
i was able to have washers fitted in between the 2 layers of the trunk just like how factory spoilers are put on

3m tape... i wouldnt recommend you do just tape.... if it ever falls off... you'd cry.. i just use it to seal any super big gaps or anything and to hold the over all position

 

so yesterday i put on my wing

now i am always checking if its stable or not, checking if the bolts will loosen and fall off
