What did you do to your GE fit today?
I really have no need to convince you.
I know I have 25,000 miles on my Fit, and its only 2 days past its first year of ownership.
I know that ever since it went from stock to where it currently sits, I have since gone from filling up once every 6-7 days, to once every 7-8 days.
My schedule remains for teh most part the same.
The three biggest improvements on my car were: intake, colder heat range sparkplugs, and running 93.
In my testing, doing those things individually each gave an improvement. The intake was allowed a larger improvement when combined with all three at teh same time though.
If your car remains 100% stock with exception to a new intake, you will see an improvement on paper, but may not notice in realltime.
That is why most people dismiss the improvement. I have no idea why people need to notice things in a large scale in order to believe its existence.
If you remove 50 pounds form your car, dont you think it would improve its mileage and power to the ground? Everyone agrees it will. Just not noticable unless that 50 pounds is removed from rotating mass, where its effects are amplified to a much larger scale

lol that's the least scientific measurement ever.
"From 6-7 days to 7-8 days"
Unless you're considering where you fill up, temps, driving conditions, exact mpg, etc., your assumptions mean nothing.
I keep records like this and have been since early 2011 in my Integra; I still acknowledge I miss a lot.

RE: Another DIY CAI
Sorry guys, wasn't trying to start a whole thing.
I wasn't expecting to see an increase in mpg or performance (especially performance). I use a tank a week with my commute. Whenever I fill up I check the display stats then reset. What I noticed is that the Avg mpg was a fairly constant 34.5 (give or take .2) for a very long time. I've done 2 tanks in two weeks since installing the CAI and the last 2 displays were 35.5 (+- .2).
That's not exactly scientific, a lot of variables not taken into account. And I tend to favor "fun" over "mpg" so I'm really enjoying listening to winding up through the mid to upper rpm's the last couple weeks (which I normally don't do a lot in the Fit). If anything I was expecting Avg mpg to decrease simply because of that.
The main intention of my post (under "What did you do today..?) was to say I installed a DIY CAI and include a pic of the Inline Air Filter Housing Tube. Then I found out I can't include images. The mpg thing was more of an observation based on the dash display.

Yeah you have to host your images on a different site like photobucket or somethin then use the the image url to post them here. And I don't know about you guys, but the avg mpg counter in my car is always off...my calculated mpg is never as high as that thing says.

Well, if you guys are convinced that an intake holds no improvement over mpg's, feel free to stay stock.
I know what it does. discounting two 2500 mile round trips, all my miles are in a 20 mile radius of Fort Hood. I use at most 15 different routes at any given time. I know the terrain, and I know the distances and time before I even start the car. Thats what happens when you do the same crap everyday, in boring Garrison, waiting for a deployment to come down to the unit.
I am extremely familiar with how my car responds and reacts to input, whether from me, fuel, or environment.
Hell, I can notice how the engine reacts differently between 91 and 93 octane, giving the ecu time to adjust between fueling.
Unless you guys are so numb to your cars you cannot feel it, dont deny an improvement to velocity while maintaining volume works.
An intake does not allow MORE air to hit the engine. It allows, when properly made, it to improve velocity. And gentlemen, velocity is very important to engine efficiency.
Good night

post your fuelly numbers! mine's has dropped this week due to the extreme cold weather, snow traffic and profound use of my defroster. Mods or no mods, its all about driving style, weather, distance and terrain. The ecu negates any gains made from mods for the most part.
Since I've had the car, i've probably added 100 lbs worth of stuff (subs, aero parts), but my MPG keeps rising. Is it because the engine is finally completely broken in at 10k miles? Is it i'm driving more "economically?" Or perhaps if i remove all the stuff I've added my MPG will go up even higher?

i know yours is there Mike. All this talk about getting +20 mpg for a trip but no numbers to show leaves one to wonder.
RE: another DIY CAI
... and here are a couple pics. I cut the MAF "tube" out of the stock box keeping the horn shape at the entrance intact.
(note: weird, 2nd pic is rotated in forum display.)

In the next pic you can see the rounded nose of the cone filter inside the housing. This is where it sits with the hood down. Had to take off the OG rubber air intake cover/channel that is attached to the hood and the new housing just barely fits with the hood down.

Let me know how you like it bro.
Covercraft Noah car cover. I was looking at that one too lol! I got the oem one from some guy brand new for $50 that he never used. He got it when he purchased his Fit brand new as part of the deal, but the car is garage kept (must be nice).
Let me know how you like it bro.

I have the NOAH for my Z and it is completely waterproof as to where the OEM cover for the Fit is Water-resistant. They had a sale for black Friday at Car Cover World so I pulled the trigger.
I used the NOAH for the Fit last night and can tell you that it is a perfect fit and keeps the car 100% water free
it gets my seal of approval!
Yeah, pic might be a little deceiving. The "cannon" is about 10.5 inches long. It's a 5 inch diameter tube reduced to a 4 inch opening at each end. The cone filter is the oiled variety & pretty much the full length of the tube.
Sounds great & I figure it has to be more "CAI" than stock.
Thinking of possibly wrapping the full length to help insulate against engine heat but after this & the Eibach Street Springs I installed a few months ago I'd rather save $$ for my next project car.

HOWEVER I do give an A for ingenuity and creativity, I've never seen a filter like that, and as long as you are happy with it all my gobbledygook doesn't matter so good for you.
installed led cargo lights and plate lights, really cleans everything up.
also ordered a new mugen rear lip, going across the border and picking up on thursday(woohoo no shipping or duty). got it for $382, im hoping thats a good price since everyone else seemed to have it for $550
will be selling 4 mudflaps and jdp rear diffuser in the spring...
