My JDM DISK BRAKE RS Rear Axle conversion

My JDM RS Rear Axle with Disk Brake just arrive about an hour ago.

They are practically BRAND NEW, coming from a 2012 RS model car that had been subjected
to flood and thus cannot be sold as complete car anymore.

but since they are basically just steel part and painted, there are no corrosion damage.
the seller said that this is from FRESH WATER Flood which mean not the Japan Tsunami
but the Thailand Flood that happened last year.
if this is electronic parts, I would NOT buy it, but since this is Mechanical Part,
I am ready to take the risk and turn out the reward is good for me

I just check the movement of the hub and it seemed that the bearing is OK,
but if worst came to worst, I can just replace the bearing and get it from US Dealer
because the part number for that bearing is available here.

The next few weeks will be FUN for me

Thanks FitStir,

My update would be slow though hahaha
I am following your method of modification

I had ordered from Amazon a caliper paint.
I am going to paint this rear caliper yellow,
because in the future I plan to have front big brake kit
with yellow caliper, but that got to wait because
my cash flow rule from my wife again just kick in hahaha
(like a VTEC kick in in high rpm hahaha)...

I also need to dissamble the rotor so I can see the bearing,
just want to make sure.
I also need to buy Progress rear sway bar so when install this
rear axle it will be at the same time.

Also need to buy Spoon Rigid Collar for the rear axle bolt
just to make sure it will be more rigid at the axle joint

last need to buy Mugen JDM RS Brake line (for disk brake car),
and it have 6 BRAKE LINES !!! 4 for rear and 2 for front.

I check the CRZ brake line available in US and they only have 4 lines on their kit. but if you do a rear disk brake conversion on a HOnda Fit
you would need 4 brake line just for the rear axle alone...
so remember if you in the future decide to buy a rear disk brake upgrade kit for your car,
get the JDM brake line kit which had 6 lines total.
Don't buy US CRZ goodridge or Fit kit which only have 4 lines in total.

Great info!!!!
If I go the flange route it's just a CRZ brakeline swap, but if I get the JDM rear I need the Mugen RS (GE8)lines... I didn't know that... you've done quite a bit of research/modding in only 3 months.

Hi FitStir,

no, if you go Flange Route,
you also need JDM Rear lines.

why because there are 2 lines that connect the steel tube brake line at
the joint of the rear axle on you current drum brake set up,
plus
then you need another brake line to connect (after using male to male adaptor) from the current line that enter your brake drum to your new
caliper.

so you need the JDM lines whther you are doing swap like me or
doing the bracket/flange route.
if you just buy 4 lines, then you are still having rubber line on your rear brake system.
and your pedal will still be a bit spongy because of this.

check on my picture #7 from top,
you will see another brake line near the bolt that connect the axle to the chassis.
that one is already on our drum brake fit now.

Hi Wafulz,

the cusco rear sway bar is only 16mm...
I think it is better to buy the thicker Progress sway bar for this rear axle.
especially since I heard this disk brake rear axle is heavier then the drum brake rear axle,
so I think it need more stiffness of swaybar to control it better.

Haha and one that would be $$$$, maybe $$$$$ I'm SURE, especially since they made like only 80+ Whp to start, and if your going to go to all the trouble and $, your going to want to double if not tripple that output

Wafulz:If you don't take up this offer I may try to convince the HellaFit crew to road trip out and do so!!!

BMW ALPINA: You are correct, the GD3 is the chassis code for the GD cars from 2007-2008 received here in the North American market (as well as several other markets overseas.) The GD4 is the chassis code of a Fit model sold in Japan and I THINK Russia, ONLY that has a 4wd drive train

I COMPLETELY know this situation.

ANY car project, you either have the time but not the $, or the $ and not the time OR Significant other approval to carry it through to completeion

Hello,
this is the link for 6 piece kit made by Goodrige for Japan JDM model,
Goodridge (

but I think the seller is from Hong Kong although he/she advertise on Yahoo Japan... so I am not too sure about buying from this vendor.

There is also another one (Goodridge) on eBay UK:
but it is EXPENSIVE:
Goodridge Honda Jazz (Japan Spec Rear Disc) Braided Brake Kit Lines Hoses | eBay

but on this UK vendor you can choose THE COLOR of the outer jacket !!!

Still, I think I will buy the Mugen one because
the Mugen one should had the exact factory style mounting
and on the rear axle there are several unique mounting that might not
be utilized if you used Goodridge (this is just my guess).
Here are the link for the Mugen one:

Thanks TPColgett,
but the truth is I am just an old person who used to like driving fast,
and only wish I could still be driving fast
(but realistically I cannot and should not do that anymore),

but
now just a POSER who only do this rear brake modification for LOOKS

what I have now is called, Mid Life Crisis hahaha

alltrac, said he used the Goodridge CR-Z SS lines when he used his flange/brackets to do his rear disc setup... there might be 6 lines in that kit?

No hehehe

because as soon as I read that post from Alltrac,
I immediately try to find out about the CR-Z kit available here in US,
and I found out that
all of them stated only have 4 lines !!!

I guess the maker of the kits do not looks at the rubber hose
near the axle bolt mounting

and they thought the only hose at the rear are the one that connect
to the rear disk brake on CR-Z.

that is why those brake kit for CR-Z (US vendor one) are cheaper
compare to the Fit with 6 line.

if you check, Mugen also offer 4 line kit (cheaper) for Honda Fit with Drum brake the 2 for front and 2 for the one that near the axle bolt.

For Your Information,
you can always buy directly from Goodridge UK !
I use to buy direct from them when I have my motorcycle racing team.
Problem is you had to know what kind of hose, type of fitting, banjo bolt type and diameter etc etc... also length of each hose.

or you send them your stock factory brake hose sample and they will COPY it using Goodridge material for you.

the color of the outer jacket is also amazing, there is the carbon color, but what I used to like is the red color
in combination with the Kevlar Jacket (not stainless steel braided but KEVLAR).

They have several kind of hose size and material. I used to buy their smallest diameter hose with Kevlar jacket which provide the Stiffest pedal feel/pressure while also very lightweight.
I also use the stainless steel fitting because they look better then the zinc plated one...
but that was like 10 years ago... and I used to buy in large quantity so
I got IMPORTER PRICE discount !!!
and now I am too lazy to spec out my brake line directly with Goodridge UK...
I am just going to buy standard mugen one... hahaha
