Is the $399 charge for window etching as a security measure standard for all dealers ?
Or is my dealer trying to get few dollars extra from me ?

I turned it down. They insisted but I got out of it.

not a scam, but it falls under the same lines as the "extended interior warranty" and "last long undercoating". It's generally not needed nor does it cost 399 to do.

background: i etch carbon-fiber parts for an aerospace company, my gun costs 45 bucks and it take me 10 minutes to etch 35 characters perfectly. i don't make 399 bucks every 10 minutes.

I of course cannot speak to all dealers, but I had a similar experience at another dealership (not Honda).

I went in to buy a new car and used the on-line price calculator (build and price tool), and checked the (include taxes and fees) box. I was willing to pay the full price shown, plus a couple hundred for a block heater.

This particular car was listed at $9995 + freight/pdi + fees + tax = just under $13k. The dealer wasted a bit of my time talking to the manager and then came back smiling excited for me that I could have the car for only $14,900! The added fees included an extra pdi charge (above the included one), "dealer fees", a/c tax (no a/c on that car), a fee "that will be explained in the finance office", documentation fees, and I think possibly window etching was in there as well. They also told me things like "The pdi is for us to fill all the fluids" as though the car came off the assembly line and was tested, then drove on to the train/truck all without oil. They work hard to make it seem like these arbitrary fees are unavoidable just like taxes, when in reality they are options the dealer just includes and then charges for. I left in disgust and am now looking at Honda just because I hope they don't engage in that sort of deception (my parents both bought a Honda from a local dealer who has treated them well for years).

I expect that while some of these things are common in the industry, some dealers are just more forthright and willing to make an honest profit without tricks.

The etching fee is a blatant scam by some dealers to get more money out of you. The actual cost of doing the etching is under $100 I believe and it probably does nothing whatsoever to protect your car. Thieves can get their money out of air bags and other parts and don't mind throwing the glass away. Dealers lie and swear that it's mandatory - it's not. Some will rush to etch every new car as fast as they come in so that you will have no option of buying an unetched one. Don't fall for this nonsense.

Will interest rate drop for Christmas or anytime soon ?
Extra year of warranty is not really important to me as I will hit 100k under 5yrs anyway, but lowered interest rate would b sweet.

Greetings fellow Canadians who are buying or contemplating a 2015 Fit. My son (who is up in Vancouver on work assignment - his last month), mentioned to me that his Canadian co-worker just got a GK. It came FREE with an extra 3 yr. factory extended warranty. Our US Fits don't get that!
Apparantly he registered and was given a PIN #. Its supposed to be good till the end of OCt. Am unsure if there is a limit to the # of buyers.
Well worth a check. Good luck and hope you all get your GK's sooner than later!!!

This is the content of the email. "Thank you for registering with Honda Canada to receive
your exclusive 2015 Honda Fit offer*. By being on the list,
you are now eligible to receive a no charge
6 YEAR / 100,000 KM HONDA PLUS EXTENDED WARRANTY
valued at $918** when you purchase a 2015 Fit*."

My dealer told me about it, got my code in with my order.

Hello all - still wanting to a few tips on what would be a good "out the door price" for LX-CVT (automatic). The MSRP is $18,595 (Ontario). The few dealers I have spoken with have indicated that that they WILL negotiate below the MSRP, but I am not sure how much. I know that the current demand outstrips the available cars, but I am sure that dealers are losing prospective buyers who do not want to gamble on a long wait for a special order car. They must know too, that demand will fall off over winter, and that we will be soon be hearing about the next year's line-up (including the new Honda HR-V (compact SUV). I am wondering if I should wait another month or two for the demand to cool. Anyhow - if someone can share some pricing, that would be great. Thanks. (ps. - do know about the extra yr of warranty)

Should I (we) be concerned about the lack of transparency with regards to the delivery delays? It feels strange to me that none of the dealerships I've spoken to have any idea where the cars are or when they will be arriving.

I dunno man. I have gone back and forth in my mind for the last 3 days if I should even bother buying this car and just go for another. None of the dealerships I've contacted are very eager to get my business. None of them know anything. The dealer I got on their order list from told me they'd swap one they get for the color I want. But another told me no way they're swapping their stock out. They'res too much demand and a guaranteed sale. Between that and the fact he doesn't respond to emails often disturbs me. The whole process disturbs me. I haven't even test driven one just got to sit in one cuz it was sold the second it hit the lot. I feel your pain man.

Yea, my issue is that I NEED a car for commuting. I stopped car shopping at the end of August because I bought (put a deposit on) a 2015 Fit. I was told the car would be in before September 19th and now each conversation put's it further and further away. I don't know what to do at this point. I could have bought any number of cars between August and now but I held out as I was lead to believe I'd have this one about a month a go.

I literally just got this email from my dealer

"Honda filled two pre ordered LX Fit’s today and we are being told that they will fill two orders every week so I am hoping to have good news next week."
