MODS/ACCESSORIES for the GK
Underbody Lighting
It doesn't seem to be a very popular thing here. I don't want to do anything illegal, but I do want underbody lighting for safety. My wife's Altima has this and when you lock/unlock the car at night, the underbody lights up, I see this as a safety feature. Where I park, I've killed 3 Copperhead snakes under my truck/cars. I bought the Interior Illumination kit for my 2015 EX-L Fit and boy is it dim (will be searching for brighter replacements) My plan was to hopefully wire Bright White lights under the fit and connect them to the Interior Illumination kit, has anyone done this before?
Thanks!

I've seen this option on American cars, called "Puddle Lights."

I upgraded my fog lights to Piaa plasma ion yellow they are awesome and they were real easy to install. for future installs I am waiting for HKS to come out with a cat back pipe and I also want to upgrade my rims and tires.
Added the china sourced illuminated door sills. All 4 are illuminated off the dome light circuit, and fade out when the doors are closed. I also added some 5050 LED strips to the foot wells also off the dome light circuit. I figured these would be a great addition to the OEM foot well lighting I have. The OEM is at a good brightness where it is not distracting, and the brighter blue only comes on when the doors open. Door sills were about 60 bucks USD with shipping.
I was not able to add the lights to the back seat foot wells. There is nothing solid to mount lights underneath the seats...unless I got some double sided sticky tape to cloth which seems too cloogy for me.
Another note, I have not been able to find the OEM connector for the foot well lighting without buying the OEM foot well light kit, which is grossly overpriced. Instead I bastardized a leftover connector from my heated seat project, and being that the female pins were the exact size I needed just not in the right connector form it was easy to electrical tape the pin and route it accordingly. See picture below for the location and polarity.
P.S. Digi cam makes the light look purple, I can assure you, in person its a nice deep blue. Matches the dash illumination perfectly!
Cheers!!

Sure!
The door sills I got on ebay. I cannot link to it as it turns out the user is no longer registered with EBay. However I see this set on there fairly often. it is sourced from China so if you are in the states, expect about 15-20 days to get to you.
Here is a completed listing of the same item: Stainless Steel LED High Quality Door Sill Scuff Plate For Honda Fit 2014-2015 http://r.ebay.com/99KMAq
I wired all the lights in parallel. The two driver side sills I connected together, and ran the wire to the aux fuse panel. The passenger side sills I wired together, then snaked the wire under the dash across over to the fuse panel. Added an inline 2A fuse for safety. All these wires are neatly hidden inside the plastic trim.
The under dash blue lights I used scotch locks to tap into the wire going from the passenger side sills over to the fuse panel. It was a 10 minute addition and easy to implement.

Broke AND Cheap
Let me explain somethings, I'm old (same birthday (mmddyy) as Bruce Lee, on SS, but I just rationalized buying a new Fit EX 6 speed. This is my 4th Honda.
Now a Milano Red EX has enough standard bling to satisfy most my age, but I've already seen one "twin" in the neighborhood. Interior addition, a couple of bungie cords to tie the shopping cart to the back of seat. Pilot pedal pads iJUNK) an attempt to make up for short legs.
Dual silver pin stripes to be applied by graphic designer son, both of us believers in KISS. 35% tint for birthday.
Like I said, cheap and KeepItSimpleStupid.

Good philosophy. If it doesn't serve a function, I don't add it. I've added GPS and an XM radio, a couple of 12v outlets, LED interior bulbs, louder horns from College HIlls Honda, and I transferred a set of colored interior LEDs from another car. They're not functional, but they're nice at night. I also installed a trailer hitch to pull a small, lightweight flatbed trailer when I have to get lumber, or whatever.
Right now, I have the interior removed. I added Dynamax sound-deadening mats wherever I could. Today I'm installing new speakers and then another 12v outlet in the rear.
Eventually, I want to replace the brake and signal bulbs with LEDs. I kept my last two Civics for seventeen years, so this Fit will be here for a long time.

It is a bit hard when you join this cool forum and realize all the cool ideas everyone has for mods and functions. That being said, KISS is a good philosophy.
I've added the trailer hitch, light harness, brake controller, upgraded all the lights to LED for better brightness, dash cam to monitor idiots on the road, and even added some heated seats for comfort. The rest of the upgrades/mods were all extra flash I did just because.
Pinstripes do sound pretty sweet though!

Since I didn't consider it a mod to the Fit, I forgot the transfer of the 4.5 inch Garmin GPS from the 2008 Suzuki SX4. Good little car, no longer imported, resale and trade in value in a nose dive, time to trade ... that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I forgot to mention the dash cam I added.
Another suggestion: If you're going to add electrical accessories, I recommend running a wire from the battery, through the firewall, to a separate fuse panel. I got a couple of small panels for about $5.00 each. Each one has room for 4 or 6 fuses (I forget which), so overloading a circuit isn't a concern. Once you have that extra fuse panel, adding an accessory is very easy.
Honda accessories are unbelievably expensive, and there are equivalent aftermarket items available for a fraction of the cost.

I have been looking at a few things and so far I've decided on LED's for all the interior lights and the license plate light. I'm getting a tip for the exhaust but don't know yet if I'll go with a plain chrome or the 'burnt' looking chrome one way earlier in this thread. PBP might go real well with it tho. I think the switched Crosstour cargo light is a great idea and I might add 2! The door sills got to get something I just don't know what yet. I'm going to upgrade the battery as it's the weakest link in the redesigned of the Fit. No car should not start if light was left on overnight. I'm so glad I found this forum as it is a fantastic source of information to make a great car even better!
Getting those LED's is a good move. They'll last forever, they're very bright, and they use very little electricity.
AEM Intake
I waited as long as I could for K&N to bring a cold air intake to market for the GK5 and got tired of waiting.
My AEM Intake arrived yesterday and this morning it went into the Fit. Part# AEM 21-748C $249.99 on Amazon Delivery time 7 days
The AEM installation was not without it's issues:
1) The instructions call for an 8mm socket to remove the hose clamp on the transition coupler. It isn't. It is (probably) 3mm which I didn't have and I doubt you do either. Be careful taking a screwdriver to it, the phillips head is soft and easily stripped.
2) While the instructions are (for the most part) very detailed, there is a step and diagram missing before "carefully remove stock airbox" that should say "Locate these two bolts under and behind the stock airbox and remove them " otherwise that sucker isn't going anywhere!
3) Finally, there was alot of mold flash left behind in the MAFS opening that had to be removed with a fine metal file before the Mass Air Flow Sensor could be fitted into it. Also, the gunmetal grey finish had clumped around the edges where the sensor is meant to sit flush which also had to be filed/shaved away to ensure a good seal.
Having now installed the K&N on my GE8 and an AEM on my GK5 I have to say that K&N got it right and AEM got it close. The sound is certainly an improvement over stock, I will report back with driving impressions and fuel efficiency changes in a few tankfulls.
If anyone is curious, the Tanabe strut tower brace does not interfere with the installation at all. The heat sheald can be maneuvered into position without scratching either piece.
AEM Intake
Roksta,
The installation instructions leave it hanging. This leaves it unsupported at the end as you see in the photo. I don't think it will survive like that indefinately as it is only held on by the plastic panel buttons. I plan to extend it to the edge of the heat shield/box both for support and to get the cool exterior air further into the engine bay. There is also a lower breather box hose that has just been left open... still figuring out what to do with that one, because it faces up, I am concerned that it can hold water in heavy rain (like today.)
