Hybrids and on-hybrids do that. I do it myself at long lights.

Wow, these 40-50 degree temps really make a difference in mpg. I've been waiting to see what this Fit can do with the warmer temps. My commute (25 miles each way) is now getting me in the upper 40 and low 50 mpg range. Really lovin' it. This will be my best tank for sure.

The outside temperature has a more drastic impact than I would have ever thought. I lost a substantial amount of fuel economy after the temperature dropped, which has just leaped back up with the abrupt increase. Possibly some of this can also be attributed to the fuel blend that's used during winter, but I have no idea when that began or ended or if it has ended. I don't recall having quite as much of an impact with other cars I've owned, but this engine is a lot smaller so who knows. I'm certainly no mechanic.

Yeah, this is great. I've gotten 50+ on a couple of trips. My average for this tank is 43.4.

Yesterday's 50 mile round trip netted me 51mpg on the SG. My ride in this morning was 50+ on the SG. This is truly awesome!

I bet you're looking forward to the challenge of getting your overall avg back to 44 again!

My ride to and from work (chicago suburbs) consists of 29 miles mostly highway (55 or 65 mph). On my second tank of gas I am averaging 40.9 mpg and today at about mile 27 (so almost home) that trip was sitting at 46.0mpg. And then...I got stuck at 2 lights and I ended up at 45.3. So very sad.

The warmer weather has been kind

Watching that mpg reading really messes with your emotions, doesn't it?

LOL
Yeah, it messes with you when it drops quickly. I had to turn off the immediate mpg view when I drive. Its very distracting. Now I just turn it on when I get near home to see how good it is.

I've had my Fit for six months, and am only averaging 31 mpg. Everyone seems to be getting 40 or more, so what am I doing wrong?!! Granted, it is an EX automatic, so am losing a few there, and I do mostly city driving. But I am a "little old lady", not an aggressive accelerator. Eco mode doesn't seem to help much either. Any advice?

I also noticed improvement in mpg. I am actually very surprised to see trip mpg going above 50 mpg couple of times.

I think your travel path matters most. When I have done trips with lots of stops...very bad mpg. But my daily commute consists of 2-4 lights then 20+ miles of relatively traffic free highway then 2 lights and...done. And I leave for work before 6:30 and generally leave work at 4 or....long after rush hour. So I avoid most traffic. I suspect if the posted speed limit was only 55 the whole way I'd probably manage better mpg. But I drive up to 70 and that probably hurts a little.

Just filled up, and as I suspected, best tank by far. This Fit has more potential then you'd think. I squeezed 533.9 miles out of this last tank, pumped in 11.001 gallons (I suspected the tank capacity was greater than 10.6gal as I've never seen a manufacturer who hasn't understated fuel capacity). SG was right on, estimating I used 11.0 gallons. SG registered 47.9mpg, dash gauge registered 50.2mpg and actual calculated was 48.5mpg. I know better numbers are possible since about a third of this tank was when the temps were still pretty low (below 30 degrees).

40-45mpg during a 50 degree, 5 hour drive from Northern NJ to Washington DC @ ~70mph.

My last tank gave me 42.3, and the car indicated 42.3. That doesn't happen very often.

Don't believe everything you read. People tend to report their good numbers and stay silent when the numbers aren't so good.

The only valid numbers are those that are calculated over several tankfuls and corrected for odometer error. Most people just take the trip odo number and divide by the gallons pumped or, worse, just rely on the fantasy dash display.

That's not an easy question to answer since there are so many variables. The 2 major ones are your driving style and your driving conditions. My commute is almost ideal for high mileage, 25 miles each way, pretty flat, I leave pretty early in the morning before there's much traffic and I don't see too many stop lights. I also don't get caught up in much stop and go traffic. With that said, some of my techniques are shooting for 50mph on the freeway, stop-light timing, neutral coasting to stops, very light on the gas pedal, turning the engine off at longer stop lights, driving without brakes, tire pressure set at 40psi, etc. I used to be an avid hypermiler, and have even competed in hypermile challenges and can tell you it takes a lot of practice and a lot of patience, but if you're determined, you will get better at it. You just have to learn your car, learn your route and change your driving style. I'm not nearly as much of a hypermiler as I used to be but still really enjoy the challenge of getting the best mileage possible, and the Fit makes it a lot easier and more fun.

Before the cold weather arrived, I had averaged 44.7 mpg for over 3,000 miles. That's using math, not the dash display. For years, I have driven to get good gas mileage, but with the MPG displays in the Fit, I'm working harder at it.

I live in an area where most of my driving is "highway," long stretches without stops, although there are constant hills. My son works in town, where there are traffic lights and lots of traffic, yet there is only a little over 1 mpg difference between his 13,000 miles and my 6,000. He doesn't give a thought to MPG, freely using drive-up windows, while I don't even let mine idle at long traffic lights. Both of our cars are EX with CVT. The EPA rating for the CVT is higher than the manual trans. With warmer weather, I have seen my average getting into the mid 40's again. The winter mixture of gas hurts mpg, too.

So, what I am saying is that the Fit seems to deliver mileage higher than the EPA rating. If you are averaging 31, that's low. Check tire pressures. I keep mine at 33 all around. Keep it in Eco mode. Accelerate gently and take your foot off the gas as soon as you see you'll have to stop. Don't let it idle excessively.

Take a look a fuelly.com to see what other Fit users are getting.

Honda Fit EX Mileage

Okay, that's surprising. There are 107 EX owners, and they are averaging 33 mpg, so you're not doing too bad after all.
