Actually you can break even and better....if you're the type of person who keeps a car for 12+ years. Otherwise, the Fit is more economical overall.

The break even point would have been well over 200,000 miles. Actually, both of our Fits are getting over the EPA rating, so that would make breaking even less of a sure thing. My son traded his '97 Civic with 302,524 miles for his Fit. It was still get 30+ mpg.

Oooh I've never heard about this before. What is winter mix/formula gas? This is my first car, but I've been sharing a car for a couple years now and no one has mentioned winter mix to me. (Trying to read up on forums here to educate myself)

Thanks!

Mileage

My 2 fill ups averaged at 40.2 mpg. I drive about 50 miles per day. My typical tank of gas driving ratio is 60:40. Highway speeds are at 75-80 mph and I typically drive with the AC on at about 95% of the time. I probably average about 44 and 36?

My third fill-up and best so far: 33.0 MPG/all city That's with both upping tire pressure to 35 psi after the last fill-up, but with using a little heavier throttle more often. In the past, the fuel gauge has been high by 2 mpg or more but this time it was only 0.1 MPG off. Total miles are now a bit over 850 in about 40 days, and maintenance minder is reading 90%. Absolutely loving this Fit with the CVT!

Wink

I've had to convert everything from litres to gallons and km to miles. I filled up with 2 bars yet to go. Approximating the actual km - I was at 529km, I'' say 550 for the entire tank. Our specs say the fuel tank is 40 Litres. So that makes 13.75 km/L. Or in miles and gallons - 32.3 mi/gal. It took $34.00 to fill. I'm thrilled!! This is way better than the 2013 Fit. I love Bart von Fahrt!!

My mileage has dropped way down since it got cold. It's impossible to average 40 MPG on a trip of five miles or less. My average for this tank is only 38 MPG, compared with 44+ for over 3,000 miles.

I just had a 35mpg tank, my worst yet. A few short trips in sub freezing weather is the reason why I'm sure.

Your method will give you nowhere near an accurate estimate. Among other reasons, if you read the forums, you'll find out that our gas gauges don't give an accurate depiction of fuel left in the tank. 2 bars left is more like 1/4 of a tank. You should be dividing your km driven by how much fuel goes into the tank when you fill up.

I have a very bad feeling about this upcoming fill-up. Gauge is reading 30.x MPG. Temperatures have been in the low teens and there's been some warmups while scraping ice and snow. Probably also has winter blend in it.

Edit: I was right… 30.2 mpg, the lowest we've had. OTOH, I only paid $1.679 /gallon this time… lowest price we've paid so far.

Warm-ups? Warm-ups? We don't do warm-ups! I suppose the next thing you'll say is that you let the engine idle at red lights.

After hearing this advice for years, I start the engine and drive away as gently as I can. Driving is the best way to warm it up. There are certain red lights in town that are very long, and I know how much time I have depending on which line of cars is moving. If I know I'll be sitting there for a minute or more, I'll shut it off. If there is a car behind me, I'll start it sooner than I have to.

the key to shutting off in the winter is switching to recirc when you do, then going back to fresh after you start up.

Honda is the only car I've seen that doesn't have an actual "OFF" setting for the heat, so I have to remember the Recirc control to avoid getting cold air in the car when I start it.

Well, the engine provides heat via water heat exchanger off the engine block so there is no heat button per se other than the rear defogger. By turning the temperature knob all you're doing is adjusting the water flow in the heat exchanger to the vents.

Electric cars do have a heat button obviously.

I realize that, but most cars have an OFF position. Leaving the Recirc lever open lets cold air come in till the engine gets warmed up. So, in effect, that becomes the OFF position.

Four fill-ups show an average of 41.17 mpg on my EX with cvt. Amazing! I was hoping for figures in the low to mid 30's so this far exceeds expectations and the 16 mpg of my SUV is a distant memory.

I'm in the northeast, where it gets cold in the winter, and my average mileage dropped about 5 MPG with a combination of the winter blend and colder weather. I used to get displays of 50+ MPG. Now it's more like low 40's, depending on how far I drive.

I have seen the same thing, about 4-5 mpg drop. I don't do warm ups either.

Temps here in the Middle West are back in the mid-high 40s F right now, and my mileage has picked back up again. Just put the car away with 44.3 showing for the last drive (1 hour on 55mph State roads). It was getting in the mid-high 30s last week when temps were in the teens and twenties.
