Thanks, Billbogey #22335

I know one thing it does, according to the manual. With the Econ button activated, when you have the A/C turned on, the compressor runs only when it has to make the car interior cooler. With Econ turned off, the compressor runs continuously, as it does on most cars.

It's my understanding that it also affects how the car accelerates and how long it stays in a lower gear.

Doing a comparison test for MPG is almost impossible, as you suggest. You need a closed course, strict controls, and precise fuel-measuring equipment. Everything from ambient temperature to wind speed and humidity can affect fuel mileage.

Quantitatively, I have no idea what kind of difference it makes, but I've had my econ button on since leaving the dealership, too. I finally turned it off while driving on city streets just to test it out, and holy smokes, the acceleration feels completely different. It's so much snappier. Makes it pretty tough to switch that econ back on after feeling the powahhh.

I've driven ours since new without the ECO button. I did try it once and it felt like hooking up a loaded trailer to the car. No fun!

For me, "fun" means 44+ MPG.

I am a little disappointed! The past few days I drove 274 miles and used 7.6 gal. About 34 miles city and 240 hwy, with eco on and about 20 miles using AC. This is about 40.9 MPG and I see some people getting more. Car has about 1120 miles on it. Am I expecting to much. Speed was about 70 mph on highway.

Slow down and you'll see better mpg numbers. I keep around 55-60mpg on the highway and can hit that 50 mpg number. Nobody will run you off the road.

okies So, Today I took my White 2015 Honda Fit LX-CVT from East Bay, CA to Fresno, CA I really wanted to see how much gas I would save on the open road Taking the 5 HWY. I filled up and had my Eco Boost on the whole time. When I got to Fresno area I got about 190+ miles put on her. I got there with Half a Tank of Gas (I put middle Gas (89 I think) of Shell). Then! to test things out, I just came back without Eco Boost and guess what...when I got back I still had Half a tank of gas. So at this point I'm thinking...what is the Eco Boost Saving me? Why do I have it on? is it faulty? and just so you know, the average MPG was 35 MPG both ways.

That 34 miles of city driving is the culprit. You were idling (0 MPG) and accelerating from a standstill (7 MPG). It takes a lot of highway driving to counteract that. It's not your car that's the problem, it's physics, and you can't change that.

Do the same trip again sometime and switch it around: leave the Eco Boost off on the way there and turn it on for the trip back. Let us know.

Made my first long trip in my EX Fit. 6 hour trip to the beach. All interstate, 75-85mph, with about 15 minutes of idling behind a wreck. Eco Boost on, AC on low.

36.5mpg on the trip computer, and 34.74 actual.

I'm pretty happy with that. 35-36mpg seems to be the ceiling on my EX when traveling at 75-80mph.

I don't see many posts with the 6MT, so I thought I'd make this one. Also testing my Fuelly sig. Best tank is 44.4.

I guess I need to watch the Big Bang Theory more to better understand the Physics part. I will try again when I can fill up just for highway driving again. I was driving in the slow lane, some 60 to 65 speeds. I seldom take trips, this was from St Louis to Cuba MO down highways 270 and 44 for a MO Highway Patrol organization board meeting. Car also only has 1120 miles on it.
Thanks for the reply. I still can't figure out how to get the fuelly icon? on my posts. Bill#22335

All of these 34-39 mpg are depressing. Yes I know that is in the middle of the EPA mpg range for the car but I had hoped to see more people claiming higher. Sadly fully.com is right there with everyone. I was hoping to read dozens of people eaking out ~45 all over this thread. Shame.

And there's the key. The car won't hand you good mileage on a silver platter, but it will let you eke good mileage out of it.

I wonder if the winter gas formula has kicked in. I'm now struggling to maintain my 44MPG average. Maybe it's the shorter trips and colder weather.

I don't think the gas has hit yet, but the "not warm anymore" weather has been hurting a lot. I'm not looking forward to real cold/fake gas combo.

Winter blend arrived at the beginning of this month for our area . Called local gas supplier for verification . Gas mileage has dropped about 3 m.p.g.. Some blame goes to colder days and strong winds . Here's the gas mileage picture thread for the '11 and '13 base Fits with the auto . http://www.fitownersclub.com/forums/...d.php?t=123001 .
