To get it to fill to the top faster, you can bump the car a little when it backs up to remove bubbles. It helps a little, kind of like burping a baby. I filled up in San Antonio on 11/29 and paid $2.34.9 at an Exxon station for premium. Regular was $2.14.9. There is major price fixing where I live, and prices are always higher than they are elsewhere. I have almost always filled to the top and have had no problems, except on a B.M.W. motorcycle a couple of times, when it ran rich for a few seconds, cleared, and was back to normal.

 

Got 6.8L/100km (computer shows 6.2L/100km) on my 2nd tank of gas, filling it up at the half mark.....that's about 34.59mpg.....

P&G from 60-40mph


NO SGII here but I drove to work this morning with my full block in. I left with an outside temp of 33F and arrived at work at an outside temp of 43F. I drove about 60miles. NO engine over heating lights! Me likey!

I made this same trip using P&G and FAS 55 to 40mph and recorded 62 mpg over the 220 miles on the 27th. After using the clutch maybe 400 time, my knee was wasted at the end of the day.

Today set the cruse on 55 and with the exception of side road (about 8 miles RT) that I did P&G FAS 45 to 35 here's what I got. The rest stead CC and no brakes when traffic slowd used DWB

219 miles 90% I-95 Fla Turnpike
4.722 gal
46.3mpg

I did have a 10mph head wind on the way home


This was just a test to see what the FE is at CC 55mpg
Granted a higher avg speed then the 62mpg trip but I think the 46 mpg is about right for a 55mph MT Fit with 12k miles.

I would not recommend a full bock like that for a few reasons:
1) You have know idea what the water temp is. Waiting for the cooling light (assuming it works) may be costly.
2) Most (including myself) that have done the block, found out if it's get hot enough to turn on the cooling fan, it negates any + FE. I could not hear it but could see the sudden temp drop on the SG.
3) My (master Honda Mech) buddy tells me for sure the SG numbers for Water Temp are BS and are at least 15F low. I know you don't have one, but if you did you would see 217ish. After he told me that, I took mine off.
4) IMHO The small FE gain is not worth the potential to damage the eng oil early and maybe hurt the engine.

Hate to rain on your deal, but figured it would be something to consider.

Now if you could rig it up so it was in place till you made eng temp and than removed that would be sweet!

 

Good Data Paul, I know your knee is happy and that is not bad for just CC at 55mph.

The only reason I did a full block was because of the cold temperature this morning. The evening commute was a little warmer but no problems noted. If it remains this cool for the rest of the week then I will be able to tell if this helps or not. If it gets in the mid 50's I don't plan on using the block. Well, I just checked the 10 day forecast and it appears it will be in the 60-70's I guess I will not find out if this block works for me or not.

 

Since it is a slow day, here are some fuel economy data. We have two '08 Fits, both base manuals, one TWB and one MR. My wife drives the blue one mainly to and from her work, 10 miles round trip. I drive the red one and it gets more highway miles. Long-term data for the blue fit: 5761 miles, 162.8 gallons, 35.39 mpg. Long-term data for the red fit: 6468 miles, 151.0 gallons, 42.80 mpg. The average for both Fits combined: 38.97 mpg. No extreme driving techniques but tires inflated to 45 psi.

 

Well, the foam wasn't worth a shit. I lost the both of the lower grille pieces, they fell out. I either need a more firm foam or plastic. I am definitely going to hold off on this. The next mod is to instal the Zeta Dead foot pedal(sitting at home waiting for me). I am thinking about the aero undertray though.

 

I can't get 40mpg to save my life... my best so far is 39.19, but that was on a short trip (in town!) and the room for error on fillup was high so I don't trust it. Next best is 38.08 on a 236 mile non-stop trip last week, and SG showed a touch over 41mpg until I got in to a hilly area. I just couldn't sneak it back up before the trip was over. These little cars are REALLY sensitive to drafting, and I just don't get many opportunities to do that.

Overall, I'm really happy with my average over 30mpg on nearly 100% city driving, but it sure would be nice to pull a 40mpg tank on the highway when I wanted to.

HEMI-Fit - i was in your boat a year ago. Technique is key. I can't stress that enough. Accelerate slowly, never push the pedal to the floor. Turn off car at stop lights. Act like you don't have brakes which means you will start to slow down way before a typical driver does and you can time it such that you can turn corners and not use your brakes(this helps a lot especially with acceleration). Coasting is key in Neutral with ICE on/off (I prefer off). Any time my foot is not on the gas pedal I cut the fuel off(FAS switch FTW!). Last, speed limit, do it or below. Oh, tire pressure, sidewall max is your friend.


On a side note, I installed the Zeta Dead Pedal last night, that thing was a PITA for only 2 bolts. I am not sure how I like it yet. The angle of the pedal is too steep to rest your foot flat on but it does prevent me from wearing a hole completely through the carpet now. Maybe I can adjust the angle but at least the ball of my foot can rest on it.

 

Wow 44 psi in tires must ride like a rock. I run 32psi as stated on door and I get 35mpg in the city beating it to death .

Not true. I have been running our Fit at 45 psi for about 5 months. We like the ride, and we get great mileage even around town.
We actually feel that we have more control. And of course, since winter is close at hand, we never get the Low Air Pressure light coming on.

 

Shawn, Next time your up for a serious tank run, try 1/2 throttle on the acceleration when you P&G.

I'm pretty sure you'll like the results over your recommended easy throttle.

That and I have always been curious of what mpg I am getting for certain segments of my commute, so I can try and improve them. Nothing like instant feed back.

 

Haven't read this whole thread, not even close. My M/T '09 gets about 34 MPG when I drive it nice, and 29 MPG when I drive it hard. It has a little over 3000kms on it now. City and Highway driving don't seem too different as far as mileage goes.

 

This has become more like a hypermiler's thread. Meh.

Gah, I love this car. With gas prices where they are, I can fill up for $20 again! And to think it cost me nearly twice that just this past summer!
