Gas mileage
City driving is very hard on gas mileage.
Have you checked the tire pressure?
At what RPM does the tranny usually shift at?
Try running the A/C on the lowest fan setting when you use it.
Try to combine trips so the car has fewer cold starts. The car uses much more fuel when it is not warmed up.

I've started to redline the engine after 700 miles (just in the first 2 gears, but never under full throttle). I started to redline the engine once a week and slowly increasing the frequency. Last week I think I redlined almost every other day (a bit over 1000 miles now). But just by looking at the fuel gauge I seem to be getting more mileage than my last tank even with the more aggressive acceleration!
My run to college is 4.1 miles one way. My run to work is about 3 miles away, on the same road as school. Most of my daily errands (groceries, drug store, Mall, movie theater, book stores, 25+ restaurants, etc.) are all within 1.5 miles from home. Even Home Depot is only 6 miles away. I prolly drive 15-25 miles per day, averaging, say, 3-5 stops per day.
It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm driving Ms. Daisy or driving like Mad Max.
I did check the tire pressure sticker on the inside of the dooor jamb. It says that under normal load, 32psi is the correct pressure. ?!?!

just filled up for the first time tonight. i got 427kms from the full tank of gas when i picked up the car from dealership. i filled up and cost me $37cdn. and it stopped at 34litres.
anyone know what that works out to and if the fit has a 10.8gallon tank. i probably could have driven close to 500kms.
im from vancouver....so everything here is in kilometres.
thanks for all the replies

Tershel,
This is what I came up with, assuming your tank was completely full when you picked it up. Please, someone corrrect me if I am wrong.
(All rounded to 2 decimal places)
427 kilometers = 265.33 miles
34 liters = 8.98 US gallons
265.33 / 8.98 = 29.55 miles per gallon
427 / 34 = 12.56 Kilometers per liter
(34*100)/427 = 7.96 liters per 100 kilometers
So, with at full tank (10.8 gallons, or 40.88 liters), you would be able to drive (10.8 * 29.55) 319.14 miles, or 514 Km. Of course, it is not realistic to drive until your tank is empty, but you could have very well driven 500km.

i just hope those numbers improve as the car brakes in...my salesman says it will be around 6000kms when car officially brakes in and improve gas milage.
thanks again

I really feel like a "freak" now after reading all this. Just finished a drive from Virginia to Arizona (approx. 2800 miles the way I went) with about 250lb of stuff in the car, average speed of 70-75 mph. Going through the hills is most states I was still averaging 37-39 mpg, going through the flat states like Oklahoma and Texas I was hitting 42 mpg. I now have a little over 6K on the odometer.
