People who claim 45/46 mpg, do you guys always drive downhill or something? Prop the car up on stands and spin the tires with no wind resistance?

First tank since picking up my car I went 297.7 before the gas light came on. Didn't get gas til 304.2 and filled up 9.23 gallons til it clicked. So that means I got 32.96MPG right?

Also noticed once the low gas light comes on it doesn't go away then come back on again like my old cars, it just stays on lol

My Fit's fuel light went on, turned the car off then on later, and the fuel light was off again.

Then by all means you should be able to drive another 300 miles .

Many areas are going to a 10% ethanol blend. This will lower your fuel
economy by as much as 3% over regular gas. Thats 38.8mpg vs 40 mpg.

im running standard pressure

I am actually baffled by the numbers i am seeing however and please dont take this wrong fit fellows here i think most of it has to do with driving style. Its a small motor and if you flog it gas mileage will suffer big time. Like i said i might be the oldest living fit owner i bought it to replace a 93 civic and i have 2 siberian huskies that i take all over so the new civic didnt suit me at all. I used to always say when i was 20 something dam those insurance comapnys for making my rates so high . Now i watch the younger crowd drive and dam now i know why . Again i was young once too and drove young im no better or wiser just older and slower so i think given the dispacement of the motor etc. the difference in putting your foot into it is substantial. Synthetic

Coop,

You might have answered this before, but I missed it and am too busy to back up and look.

How many miles do you have on your Fit? If less than 3 or 4K, did you already fill it with synthetic oil, or does it still have the factory fill.

And, for you Honda factory guys, what is the factory fill? The reason I ask is I know that the Cadillac/(now Buick, I guess) Northstar engine is built using Mobil 1.

I plan to switch to a synthetic at the first fill.

Remember the old ARCO graphite oil? I used it in a 1973 Pinto wagon I had, and it would still chalk the pipe at 130,000 when it was stolen. (For the younger crowd, an engine that was not burning oil back in the leaded gas days would leave a light colored, almost white residue inside the tailpipe.)

that's cuz it's not super accurate. it's the same reason why dependnig on the slope, your fuel tank may read more or less. the fuel light is not any more accurate than ur fuel guage

Age

Coop and Talon,

I got yall both beat in the age catagory.

When I was born there were 48 states, and Eisenhower was president.

I run with a rough crowd. I'm the admin on a Quake III server owned by a former co-worker who's a Vietnam vet. He just bought a new Honda too, but it's a two-seater with a bigger engine, a bigger price tag, and only two wheels.

Yall be good.

Coopula. you're not the oldest FitFreak, I have a few yars on you. I do agree though that Fit gas mileage seems to be a lot to do with driving style. I have an advantage living in flat NE Florida with a clean 30 mile commute to work. US 1 average speed despite the 45mph restrictions for the last five miles and I'm still looking at 38+ mpg. I don't drive slowly, I just don't floor the pedal.....ever. 1500 miles, computer say's oil is 80%. Even then I'm still the quickest away from the traffic signals bar none. ( OK I live in truck country, they are slow off the mark) Driving a Fit and loving it.

Last week was a little better. 29.5mpg, and restricted my hiway speed to 65 mph.

Going to fill up in a little while. Will post this week's results. Harder accelerations this week--had to outrun some really bad drivers.

Oh crap...

Sweeeet!

Even with some hard acceleration pushing 5000rpm, I still got 30.888mpg this week.

Started with just under 30 mpg. With 2800+ miles on the odometer, I'm up to around 32-33. I commute part of the way on I-95, then stop & go at traffic lights, and I think it mainly depends on the traffic. I often have to accelerate to pass (in Florida, that usually means passing on the right), or to get out of the way of someone doing 95+ mph. The more I can use my cruise control, the better the gas mileage. We used to have lighter traffic in the summer, when the snow birds headed north, but not anymore.

I have to face reality. Though I am glad when I get the epa estimates, was anyone else thinking this car would exceed those estimates too? I am used to getting on the high side, or exceeding the epa estimates, but have been averaging just about the middle of the pack wtih this car. Kind of wish I had purchased a civic instead.

1) the new civic doesn't get anything like its epa. it gets about 23 or 25 mpg

2) if u're referring to old civics, like the hatchbacks, altho it beats the fit by ~3 mpg,it's MUCH slower. My bro's civic DX gets about 33-37mpg. the slightly lowered observed mpg of the fit is worth the speed and fun-ness that the fit offers.

I disagree. If you read Edmund's forums, you will see that half the people that post in the Fit thread are also here. Assuming the Fit MPG numbers are accurate given by reviewers, you should also assume that the Civic figures are also accurate.

The Civic as per Edmunds is meeting or beating the Fit, generally on the highway (as to be expected)
