Be sure to pick up a digital tire pressure reader.. or the ****og one will work too. I picked up their cheap color one for 3.99. The foot pump isnt so reliable for guaging individual increments of PSIs

I usually over-inflate then deflate to desired PSI with the separate tire pressure reader.

^ I gotta agree, the digital tire pressure guages are great. Gets to within half a PSI, and the batteries last forever.

Just got our Silver Sport AT today, so I'll start posting our mileage ASAP!

Max mileage

Does any know what the factory spec is for the speed at which the engine (I have the AT) gets its maximum MPG?

Is it me or my Fit? I read about all the great gas mileage everyone else is getting but so far all I am getting is 21 MPG around town and about 29 MPG on the Hwy. My V6 Camery with an automatic transmission gets similar milage. Do you know if there is a machanical fix to the engine or transmission or anything else that could result in improved mileage? Is this kind of problem covered in the warentee?

I wonder this too - for the AT, what speed is best on the highway? 55, 60,65,70? What puts it in its best RPMs for mileage?

I read from a different site quite a while ago that the new testing standard is at 55 MPH until empty.

Filled up again. The light came up and I pumped at 276.4 miles for 9 gallons. Comes out to about 30.5 MPG. My economy is actually going up, because I've been purposely using the paddles to rev to 4k rpm as to continue the breakin. In the freeway I am also going up to 70mph for a while, then releasing the gas back to 60 for a while, and back up again.. this decel helps lubricate the piston rings as part of the break-in. I would imagine if I drove normally, I could exceed 30MPG easily, but thats the price to pay for a proper breakin

I can understand the frustration of many of you who are getting terrible gas mileage. Any average below the EPA ratings of 31/37 for auto and 33/38 really sucks.

My initial thoughts were that if the Fit didn't get the kind of MPG that I'm getting now, I would definitely dump it and buy either a Civic or Corolla. [Why deprive myself with a small, underpowered car that doesn't have a huge fuel efficiency advantage over those models?]

Well it has turned out that my overall average is between 36 & 37 with some high readings of 39+ and ~42 MPG. (I have the Sport manual transmission by the way.) In my opinion, the Fit has redeemed itself. There is still room for improvement, which I think that I can achieve by allowing the engine to get fully broken in, switching to synthetic oil after the first couple of oil changes, and getting a Scangauge so that I can learn to drive for more fuel savings.

The good thing about the Fit is that since it is such a desirable car, if you really wanted to sell it now you won't get burned too badly.

I think the key to getting the best mileage out of the Fit lies in these principles:

1) Don't use ethanol blends
2) Keep your tire pressure up (at least maybe 38 psi)
3) Avoid short driving trips (bundle several short trips into one)
4) Don't accelerate unnecessarily
5) Limit a/c use
6) Anticipate stops and lights - don't waste momentum
7) Keep your rpms down and shift accordingly
8) Keep your speed down on the highway (65-70 mph max) Maybe the automatic could handle a little higher (70-75 mph)

my last two fillups, i sprinted EVERY freeway ramp, and any straight road from 0 to the speed limit, and i got 30, my lowest MPGs. i'm driving conservative again and see waht happenes.

Just a thought, it is my understanding that for highway driving a/c is often prefered for gas efficiency over the major added drag from 4 windows being down. Maybe its psychological, but driving highway with them down it feels like more pedal is needed to keep it at 70. Any thoughts/proof to this theory?

wow, I found out something very interesting lastnight/this morning. On my drive home from work, I had a tad over 1/8 tank left. in 12 miles (driving 65-70mph) it dropped to the red line. Light came on at 272.4 miles. I knew I could make it to get my kids and get home. Once I arrived at home. stayed on the redline and the light stayed on. I woke up this morning and pseudo warmed up my car. Getting the kids buckled in, I noticed my 1/8 of a tank was back. wth! I drove 2 miles to fill at a gas station. Filled her up, and it only took 8.2 gallons. Now what I wonder, is the heat to blame for the guage mis-reading? was over 100 where I live/work. I just found this reeeeaaaally odd and thought I would share it with you. any thoughts?

I'm figuring that either the tank is not 10.8 gallons, or there is a lot of reserve fuel even when you hit the low fuel light.

I see the same thing on my car.
3/4 down, and on fillup, I only get 26l in (on a 40l tank)

This is likely caused my the fact that the fuel turned into vapor in the heat. The vapors rose to the top of the fuel tank and were not readable the floating measuring device. When you park at night, the cool air allows to vapors to return to liquid form, thus resulting in a higher fuel level reading. That is why some suggest you fill your tank at night so you dont lose the vapors while refueling. Or maybe in the morning if its not too hot yet.

Ah that vapor stuff is nonsense....you have a closed system and while the vapor pressure goes go up with higher temperatures, not enough of the gas would "vaporize" to actually reduce the liquid volume to any measurable degree. If it did, once you cracked the gas cap, the thing would fire off like a rocket and kill someone. There is a float in the tank and it is dampened somewhat. When you get low on gas the gas sloshes around in the bottom of the tank. What your probably seeing is the effect of parking your car on a slight incline (or decline) and noting the reading as opposed to looking at the gauge after you have just turned a corner and sloshed the gas to the float..all is normal.

could be the combo of CA gas and the fact that i havent done an oil change yet....assuming that the oil put in at the factory is slightly thicker used to coat the moving parts better during break-in period or first oil change.....hopefully once the factory oil goes out and i use semi-syn or full syn my number will go up.

I agree. I'm in Los Angeles area and have MPG averaging 26 now... although my Fit has only 800 miles, is the MPG just too little for a 1500cc car?? I have a quick scan and found that most of Fit in CA get less than 30 MPG. The only thing I can think of is the Gas here is different from other states.
