That's odd. I ran about 23-25mpg driving 80-85mph in windy conditions but otherwise I am getting aroudn 35-40mpg driving 70mph and city (80% hwy and 20% city on the daily basis)

 

Can you guys indicate which gas brand as well? I am hoping there is a pattern here somewhere. I don't have my FIT yet, but on my accord, I averaged 26MPG through Arco. I have tried other brands and have noticed that there is more overhead power in acceleration, but never monitored the MPG. I think I'll do an experiment on my next fillup.

When I get my Fit in a few weeks, I am expecting at least the stated 33MPG and !hoping! that I can stretch it beyond the 38MPG. Although I find this will be highly unlikely given that most of the owners here in California are reporting only slightly above the 30MPG mark.

 

FIt in the states just lokks like Jazz here. We have only two engines, 1.2 and 1.4. twin spark, very efficient. They have only 78 and 83 HP (compared to your VTEC engines), so my consumption results are not relevant to you.

On the other hand, I drove it through central Europe when I was comming back from Switzerland to Serbia, and I used OMV petrol from Austrian petrol station. All of a sudden I got 9,3l/100km, highway (130kmph). I thought that something went wrong. When I crossed the border to Serbia I immediatelly filled the tank with our fuel, and it got down to 6,3l/100km, open road 100kmph.
After that I drove to my hometown to the south, about 200km, and I used our OMV station in Serbia. The same problem, 9,2l/100km consumption. I am back to our local supplier, normal fuel consumption, half a liter more than in Switzerland. The best fuel I had run is Super unleaded 98 from Shell. Same consumption, but a bit better throttle response. It was not cheap, so I rarely used it.

 

I got around 36-37 mpg on my first three tankfulls and since then 35-36 consistently. The air conditioning does seem to take it's toll though. This has been 100% city driving - probably about 20% of that is stop and go.

 

U guys are lucky, I just got 240 miles on my first tank of gas.

i get around 8.5 to 9 km/l on a 1.3 idsi CVT which is far from what honda claims it can do... i mostly run stop and go.. sometime a little speeding (high revs)

 

You will get 8.0l/100km at best with AC on in stop and go, and then high rev. You probably have trip computer (with average consumption). Mine is pretty accurate, so I rest it before I do the test for a particular stretch of the road. I got from 3.7l/100km (60 in fifth and similar) to 20l/100km (max on the trip computer, cold engine, -5 deg outside)

 

Ok I just finished off my dealer fill at 298.6 miles, the car had 320 (aprox) miles on it when I took delivery because they traded it from another dealer and drove it down. I don't believe in babying a motor during breakin. I've had the car to 6k rpm's numerous times, my driving has been probably 70% hiway and 30% in town. When on the hiway I do use the cruise about 90% of the time if I can. This mornings fill up took 9.432 gal. for a 31.7 mpg calculation. I figure with the car at 617 miles now it will take a few more tank fulls to get it fully broke in. Things should settle down here and I'll see a better representation of the actual mileage the car is capable of. My Fit is a Sport 5spd.

Got somewhere between 330 and 350 miles on the first tank depending on when the dealer filled it up (got delivered at about 30 miles). After filling it up I calculated somewhere between 34 and 37 mpg. I'll get a more accurate reading next time.

 

Can I make an obeservation here? This gas mileage thing has been beaten to death. I get in the low to mid 40s all the time but then again im also in my mid 40's. I dont put a 100 pounds of air in the tires i dont do anything special except that i accept the fact this isn't a rocket ship by any means and have no desire to be the first one off the green light. This car is borderline underpowered at normal revs. I suspect that if u step it up into the 5000 rpm plus range its considerably more peppy, at 2400 miles im not going there yet. Ok here in lies the rub and this is where im going to choose my words carefully or atleast try Ok so as not to offend let me tell u where i sit before i tell u where i stand. I wish so much i was 20 something again and reved my car and enjoyed it as a car without concern for how long it might last how much mileage etc. Im 44 years old those days are gone for me sadly except i do have 2 bikes that will blow away anything on the road hehe so im not dead yet. Here is all im saying is in any car any good motorhead knows that if its not that blessed with horsepower u drive it like that its gas mileage will suffer more than say a full sized truck do to the fact the FIT is working far harder to keep up with the jones's so to speak. I see in this same thread i baby my car during break in yet ive had it to 6000 rpm many times hello thats 500 rpm from redline that isnt being gentle at all. So guys bottom line u are not driving a WRX or an ACURA sports car u are driving a economy car. I think the fact that it handles so well and revs so willingly many people are having fun with it at the expence of significant gas mileage. JMHO. If u drive this car easy and realize what it is and dont have to be the first up the on ramp or the first to get to the next red light it will return excellant gas mileage.

And living at 5900 feet above sea level don't hurt none.

I bet you can't get the same mpg on the PCH.

 

Sorry, my mistake. Then it is awfull. It is between 11 and 12 l/100km. I never got that consumption for a longer trip. Can you change your gas station, or you have done that already? Is your engine for 95 or 91 octane fuel? it runs on both but you have to set it up, atleast that is what it says in the manual.

 

to touch on coopula's post. I am 31, wife 2 kids 4 cars and a mortgage. I am NOT rich this is why I bought my Fit. In hopes of saving money on the "great gas mileage" it was supposed to get. My car has yet to see 80mph. Let alone 75. I know that when they came up with thempg, the were driven lightly. So for me to get the same results, I do the same. Like I have said before. My fast cars are My Integra and 91 Civic Si. That is why I have those. When I feel the need to drive rediculous. I take out one of those. My car just reached 800 miles. and yes, I am still getting 24-26mpg. NO A/C! And I drive solo. I have tried 3 different gas stations. No change. Talked to Honda themselves. Once I hit 1000 miles. It goes in for a fuel consumption test. Other than that. You haven't hit the nail on the head in my case.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, Gimme, but what kind of mpgs (and under what driving conditions) are you getting with your integra and civic si? If, with the same fuel and driving conditions, they are achieving about the same proportion of EPA estimates as your Fit, the answer is your driving style, which can easily be modified. If not, there is a real problem.

You are wrong about driving and mpg! I'm 57 years old and drive my Sport Fit A/T as slow as I can go and my lowest mpg was 27.1 and highest was 31.8.
The mpg are lower with short city trips and higher with longer highway trips.
I have 2,207 miles on my Fit.

About 90% of my trips are short and I consistently beat EPA ratings by about 20% in the city and on the highway with every car I've driven for prolonged periods of time---long enough to make accurate measurements. So no, I am not wrong.
