Back from another weekend getaway that had us driving 2 1/2 hours through the mountains each way in the Golf. Still fairly impressed with it for what it is.

Smooth sailing until I ran up on a group of 3 Harley riders. Took a few miles till I was able to put them in my rear view mirror. Wish I had some way to revoke their MC license and man card.

2,100 miles away from it's 20k service now. I will mention the brakes and coolant odor when it goes in.

I love Subie's, but never pulled the trigger because we just put too many miles on our cars. No turbo equals 100k ish miles without problems. Half that if boosted. Doesn't fit our lifestyle. Drivetrains and chassis are generally pretty stout though. Motor swaps and newer motors in older cars are very common with Subies since the rest seems to hold up well.

Our turbocharged 05 Forester XT went 110,000 miles with no turbo issues, it was solid car until it wasn't. What caused me to jump ship was an alarming use of oil that started at 100,000 miles. The turbo was fine, but apparently the piston rings were not. I really liked that car, but the oil use got so bad that I was adding a quart of oil a week toward the end of our time together. Lucky for us the resale was still quite good. That's when we moved into my wife's MINI.

i really like my current STI, thing is just so fun to drive. but the indiana-built legacy wagon i had years ago which i bought new (before i traded in for the first GE-AT 2009) was horrible. warranty issues one after the other and it was just so unreliable. looked good and suspension was real nice, but decided to trade it in within like 3yrs ownership. plus the dealer at the time just stucked arse.

i was pretty sure id never buy another subaru ever again, but fast forward 10yrs honda quality went down the toilet in those yrs and it just opened up so many other options.. like my VW's. i have zero regrets. plus my new subaru dealer is kickarse!

Well, Felix the Fit came home briefly for spring break, then went to the beach, then back home and finally returned to college. I had time only to check the tires and oil.

My kid loves the car and <knocking on wood> it's been wonderfully dependable and economical. I hope our good fortune holds, along with driving safety.

Rolf the Golf heads to VW on Thursday for his 10K Mile Service.

Good to hear about the Fit. '13 is a good year. I bet it will be trouble free for years to come.

Our Golf will go in for it's 20k service next month.

yah, the 12's and 13's were the best years for the Fit no doubt. if i knew wat i know today about the GK, i would not have bought it. i shouldve gotten the 16 impreza hatch for my wife.. those were still made in japan.

10K Mile Service completed at the VW Dealership yesterday. I chose only the oil change and tire rotation to save some money.

As I figured, they said the coolant loss, ridges on the front rotors, occasional unavailability of 2nd Gear (can't enter the gate), overeager backup camera (sometimes activates when moving shifter into 1st while stopped at a light) are all fine and just the way things are. They asked to have the car another day to pull out part of the dash to check wiring in an effort to find why a The Park Pilot is currently not available message randomly appears on the screen on a car that doesn't have the feature.

The Dealer said that this was the solution offered by VW Corporate and that there's a TSB on it. I'm dubious and told them to not dismantle the dash and that we'd worry with it later. It's a minor irritation and I don't want dash squeaks introduced in out tight car.

I posted this on VWVortex and an owner there said that VW replaced his infoentertainment system as a fix. It fixed the problem, but now his infoentertainment system locks up!

wow that sound horrible. but good call on not rushing on swapping the infotainment system.

with the issues you and GAFIT are having with your mexican Golfs i can see why some folks are skeptical of their quality. i must’ve been lucky cause my mexican GTI has none of these issues. the more reasons why i should keep it instead of trading in for a new DSG-R, huh? .. i was thinking about that the other day. cause my German Golf-R is not that great of a build quality either, although no serious problems i couldnt fix.

Guess we aren't the only ones with a growing list.

What really makes the list worse is that VW doesn't care. They just sweep it under the rug.

52k miles on my twin turbo Lincoln and not a drop of coolant used.

Our Golf smells like it has a blown head gasket and freaks me out.

A good friend of mine with a GTI had is whole infotainment system replaced due to glitches and it fixed a multitude of problems he was having.

That was about a year ago and no problems since so maybe it's worth the risk Alco?

Sorry, I was referring back to Alco's problem with the infotainment system.

A friend of mine had his replaced and it fixed several odd issues he was having with his GTI.

Thankfully, no issues with our electronics other than the starter button is odd. It sometimes starts to start the vehicle and then stops. Have to hold down on the button longer than I'm used to.

In rental's, loaner's, and my Lincoln a tap of the button and the car cranks for however long is necessary. On our Golf, you have to hold the button down longer. Not a problem...just odd.

Good thought, but nope. I keep my foot on the brake pedal until I pull it into gear. I think it's just the switch. At least it starts!

Our MINI has a push button & I've finally gotten used to it. Took a few years.

My GTI has a key that goes into the ignition & gets turned, old school brilliance. ;-)

ive gotten so use to keyless whenever i get a rental car with the traditional key and fob it is so frustrating..!

then cars with no adaptive cruise nor auto wipers are so annoying too.. thus im kinda stepping back from the abarth idea. lol

I'm sure my next car will have a push button start with auto unlocking. Funny how we get used to these things & when they are not there we miss them.

As for an Abarth, it will be fun. Until you start hating it. Proceed with caution.
