The K&N CAI I have "sucks" lol. I may be selling it soon but haven't had time to R&R it.

Question ? for GE8 Owners Using K&N Intakes

Having used the search function and done some reading, I see that there were lots of problems with the K&N on the GD platform. Were these problems corrected for the GE8? I was hoping to get some feedback from GE8 owners running the K&N intake. What are your thoughts on the intake? How was fitment? Any problems. Any good things to say?

Thanks,

Hizzie

The problems for the GD intake were fixed. I actually have that intake sitting in my room. I havent heard any complaints about the GE one yet and its been out for sometime.

It has a nice sound and throttle response seems to be better. Obviously, even if the 4hp gains claimed by K&N were realized it would be hard to tell without a dyno. Fitment is great, and there's a slot for the MAF sensor. The heatshield provided is a nice addition, though I'm not sure how much difference it actually makes.

Edit: Out of curiousity, what problems did the K&N for the GD have?

It had fitment issues, pipe leading to throttle body was too long.

I agree with this. I like the k&n. Nice throaty sound. Can be a tad annoying on uphill while trying to have a conversation. If I did it again, I would pick up some of that neat thermal shield stuff and hit the heat shield with it.

was it hard to install?
i am thinking of buy injen over the prm/k&n, but looks like you need to remove the bumper/fender liner to install
and will the filter be exposed to any water?
do you have any pics of it installed?

prm or t1r intake

i shouldn't have sold my last station intake. ...but oh wells.

Now I'm looking at either the PRM intake or the T1R. Not looking to put an exhaust anytime soon. Just an intake for now. I have an 09 automatic so not looking to lose bottom end either. Seems like PRM would be best bang for the buck, but are there advantages the T1R has over the PRM? ...since pricing is about $100 difference.

thanks,
i will probbably go with PRM
that filter looks like it will get wet and where i live it rains like 60% of the year
if the fit wasn't my daily driver i would get that injen, looks like its the best intake i seen so far for the fit

prm only sells direct, you have to order it from prmracing.com
also they usually don't stock their products too, it will be made to order

My Fit is my DD as well.

If it helps, I checked when we were having our heavy rains here and the filter stayed as dry as my PRM did when I had it.

Keep in mind it isn't by the road surface, it is under the headlight, in the void behind the bumper. It's higher than the foglight, and protected from behind by the fender liner, below from the skirting, in front from the bumper and the radiator/grill/bumper beam shield the rest. Look closely at the photos and you'll see that it's basically shielded on all sides.

IMHO, it's very sheltered from water, and that I drove through at least a foot of standing water on several occasions without the filter getting noticeably wet is tantamount to its being in a great location.

Having said that, the PRM is quite good as well. Having owned both however I prefer the more "grown up" sound and power characteristics the Injen seems to provide.

yes i know where the filter sits, and if i didnt mod my fender liner, i would probably be fine and i could use one of those filter shield's that injen sells, but since i am running 18" and my car is lowered i cut the fender liner so there is a gap where water could get in and make the filter really dirty

filter has to be completely submerged in water to do any damage
