To be honest it was a real pain in the a$$. And for as much time as it actually took me and what you would end up paying me you'd probably be better off buying a PRM or K&N or Injen. I'd really have to think about it.

Ok, no worries. I'll probably just eventually get a K&N. I love the look of yours, though.

Ill tell you what, if I ever go turbo or swap you'll be the first in line to get it!

**Custom GE8 Spectre Intake DONE**

Finished this today. All parts from Autozone, bout $100 before tax. Sensor seems to be working perfectly, been driving it today and have not had a CEL yet. Sounds really great too, throaty inhale at about 4K rpm and above. I'll give it a week to make sure there's no CEL, after that I'll do a DIY with photos if people are interested.

Wanted to clear the radiator hose so I used a Spectre air intake mounting bracket. Pain in the BUTT though it seems to do the trick.

Looks nice but a couple things u gotta watch out for is that those spectre couplers blow, u may wanna get silicone ones instead. Ill give it another 20 or so miles before your mafs throws a cel. And lastly you are going to experience a ton of heatsoak having ur filter ther so you may want to consider some sort if heat shield. Nice job tho! Diy's just make u feel nice inside :-)

I've had no problems with my Spectre coupler.

Also, (to the OP) you are aware that the GE8 (at least the 2011) features an air scoop that runs up the hood right to where the brake fluid reservoir is, right? Also, the MAF is designed to work on a 2" dia tube, so I wouldn't be surprised if you throw up a CEL sometime soon.

Damnit Java why you gotta be right?! I got 40 miles before it through the cel. Thought I was in the clear somehow but that was just wishful thinking! At least I know why it threw and it's not really something hurting me. I'm going to get it fixed somehow someway, whatever the cost to my sanity. You're right, diy just gives you that feeling of "yeah i showed this car who's boss!" I think it's funner to go through this process rather than buying a more expensive component that somebody else designed and just slaps on and works fine. Gotta work for it!

The smallest calibration tube that comes with the MAFS kit is 2.25", which of course is what i used. It's crazy that just that .25" can throw the CEL, but I guess that's what computers are the best at: precision. I'm wondering if I cant find a 1/2" thick tube or pipe of some kind that has the right dimensions (2" ID isn't a wacky size) to slip in there with a cutout for the sensor. OR maybe a 1/8" thick pipe to slip inside the plastic calibration tube to cut the ID from 2.25 down to just 2. We'll see!

Yeah I'm aware of the scoop under the hood, but this big ol' intake won't fit back there, at least with the length of the MAF adapter tube. I'll do something in the near future to protect it from the heat, whether it's just a shield or moving it to a different location.

yeah i'm sorry bro, i wish i wasn't right but that damn mafs is picky. Personally i would use a 1/2" thick pipe to make the change in diameter, those inserts are flimsy and unreliable in my book. Here is a pick of the aluminum pipe that I lathed with an "ease in" and "ease out" to it. Its compression fit inside my spectre tube and will never budge, but if you dont have the resources to make this, try looking for some pvc pipe that maybe you can slip one inside another then put in the spectre tube to make that 2" ID that you need. Feel free to PM me with questions.

Thanks for your help, it's really, uh...helped me a lot. I really dig your custom pipe, especially with the stacks at each end. Probably works like a champ! I have a couple friends with machine shops that could probably do this pretty simply. Or I'll just piece something together myself. I agree those plastic inserts are kind of a pain and don't seem very reliable. Will post back when I get somethin workin!

Looks promising but our radiator support is different than he JDM rad support...this might cause some fitment woes where it exits.

Can anyone shed some light ont he MAF issue on the GE8's intake?

I did a search and it appears some intake (ie. T1R, last Station) doesn't work on USDM cars because of the MAF issue. However, some other JDM products (Top Fuel) seems to work without a hitch. On the other hand, some USDM intakes seem to work on JDM car, but not vice-versa??

I'm planning to get a Last Station Power Box but before i plunk down the cash i want to know for sure of the compatability.

Thats essentially where the Injen one sits, except the tubing is different.

Sorry I don't have a pic with my bumper off to show the cone.

Hey there. Sorry for the somewhat n00bish question...

Was looking at purchasing a AFE drop-in for my GE. Question is, is the stock intake box for USDM GE Fits the same as those in other markets? (In other words, will the US-purchased drop-in fit?)

General knowledge seems to indicate it is so, but just want to make sure.

I've had the afe pro dry s drop in for almost a year with no problems at all. You can get it in a dry element or an oiled element. I stayed away from the oiled drop in just to be sure there were no problems relating to the oil.

Thanks for the response, ej. I agree with the oiled comment, hence, the main reason I avoided K&N despite their easy availability. Not taking any chances.

What about the airbox? Could I get the confirmation that the stock air intake is the same size for all markets? (So I can crossmarket-shop for drop-ins?)
