GE8 Intake Questions & Answers Mega-Thread
yeah.. i noticed most of your posts are like this... but i kinda like it. haha it kinda puts people back in there places.
Guess I get a little fired up sometimes
...but misinformation spreads like cancer on the interwebs. I'm actually headed back to the bookstore to buy the issue that compared different intakes, including factory, short ram, and cold air (believe it or not but the CAI got beat by a ram air b/c of an ill designed coupler). That article has really stuck in my head over the past few days...especially when I read through the "DIY intake' thread
I wanted to reiterate that the intakes that do show gains (even the expensive ones)...do so at the expense of running "rich." They have to...that is the only way to produce gains without a tune. (Somebody please post-up and correct me if what I'm saying is incorrect) That means, the engine is dumping fuel and gas mileage suffers...which is odd cause every one with a DIY intake swears there mileage went up by 3-4 MPG and there butt dyno is feeling the "power"
We're all here to learn and I'm still learning as well...

i don't think i gained any mpg...more like loss. i can feel it a bit faster when i gun it. would like to see someone dyno this thing for some real world numbers. i dont have access to a dyno nor do i have the time. would be interesting to see though.
Actually leaning out will show gains, but going to lean will cause some serious problems. The factory tunes on ECUs usually run really rich up top for longevity of the motor as it keeps components cooler than if they were leaned out. The problem is they are usually too rich for a NA tune. A good 13~13.4:1 A/F ratio up top will show a decent gain over the stock probably around 12:1, if not even more rich. So is the intake or other bolt ons really giving you more power? Yes and no, depending if you are a half empty or half full person. hahaha For me, they are just allowing the hidden power that already exists to be exposed. They give that power because they are leaning out the A/F ratio slightly. On top of that, since the A/F ratio is leaning out, the F/E should also go up.
Tuning of course is the best route, because you add too many bolt-ons and some stock tunes can not accommodate the extra air-flow and add fuel (at WOT) and that leans out the A/F raising exhaust temps a good deal and putting stress on the internals of the motor.

So my buddy has a PayPal account and we ordered and paid for the intake over a month ago and we still haven't seen the intake come in. My buddy was sent an email over a week ago that it was on backorder and K&N was shipping it directly with them picking up the cost for "speedy" delivery. Has anyone else had a problem getting this intake? I know its worth it because its K&N and I don't have to worry about shotty quality and fitment issues, but my patience is wearing thin and I'm starting to wonder if its not mean't to be

Your input would be greatly appreciated and btw my buddy has filed a complaint with Ebay too and now I wished I'd just bought the used one off of the guy who sold his white Fit for the white Civic Si, damn, I would've saved $50.00, helped out a fellow member and been enjoying the sound and 5hp perf by now

Pointless Airbox Mod DIY
Just to preface this. This is not a performance mod. No noticeable gains in horsepower, torque, fuel economy etc. Discovered this accidentally whilst cleaning my engine bay at work.

Removed some parts to clean out my air filter and removed the panel outlined in the picture just for shits n' giggles. Turns out it just seals off a resonation chamber inside the airbox. Removing the cover does nothing to the intake path - and will not effect filtration. However, what it apparently does is to separate the induction noise with an open space. Removing the panel actually releases a good amount of low-end and mid end intake noise. Makes the engine actually sound as if it were running.
Removing it is very simple. Two 8mm bolts and the cover pivots off. I assume one could then also cut away the bottom of the chamber to expose more area to the induction tract - but thats a project for another day.

yeah it acts as a silencer, like what most cars have on.. except on the fit its easyer then sin to remove compared to other cars.. most cars its a major PAIN to take off the silencer of the stock intake.
i was thinking about putting my stock intake back on just so i can get that nice quiet sound again... that was one thing i hated about getting a new intake.
You have received reps from me, *Thumbs up* or a *Fist pump... with an explosion at the end of it*

Haha, thanks. None as of yet. Looking to score another stock airbox to play around with. Ideally I'd like to make that opening the main induction opening, and help use the duct that is mounted to the hood. We'll see.
Must try this mod. The Fit motor is too quiet, LOL. I was following this guy who was walking in the middle of the parking lot. I was right behind him and he just kept walking right down the middle. I revved the engine a bit, but he still couldn't hear me. I honked the horn and he jumped out of his skin. Accord horn, FTW. Sometimes, I wish I had the engine tapping noise people around here seem to obsess over, so I know the engine is on..........
