Waiting for 2015 Honda Fit to go on sale?
Sorry I posted a question on your reputation very new to this...been dealing for 3 weeks with Honda my 2007 Pt cruiser is literally falling apart. I picked out the fit with leather heated seats...purple....sat in a red 2015 Fit that was at dealership for a few hours.... was aloud to start up but could not test drive....do you or anyone else think taking a test drive in a 2013 would be good enough to make a decision? I also was given a dealers instructors manual...
I've driven the 2013, and liked it very much. The Honda rep that was there with the demo said that the 2015 drove much better than the earlier ones (altho that is just his opinion). If you drive the 2013 and like it, bet you'll love the 2015!
I agree that something is definately not right. Today marks 4 weeks from the official release date of the 2015 Fit. Back on April 9, everything looked in place. The media embargo was lifted, dozens of articles populated the internet and national news outlets. More than 4000 new Fits had been produced by the factory and some dealers had a demo car show up on their lots in preparation for the release. Then, many dealers reported that Honda took back the demo cars they had previously received and Honda changed the official release to read, "late April."
Now, two weeks into May, there is still uncertainty about when the cars will arrive on dealers lots.
Here is what is fact:
The new Celaya, Mexico Honda plant started production on February 21 and thus far has produced approximately 7500, 2015 Honda Fits. All of these cars are CVTs. Most are EX and EX-L and a very limited number of LX cars have been made. They are mostly Black and Silver, with lots of Red and dark Grey cars made. Only a very few Agean Blue cars and no White, Yellow and Blackberry pearl cars have been made. No regular production line manual transmission cars have been made yet.
245 Of the approximately 1000 US Honda dealers show a total of 940 2015 Fits in their online inventories, yet most have yet to recieve any cars.
Approximately 3300 2013 Honda Fits remain unsold in the inventories of approximately 650 Dealers. They are presently selling at a rate of 117 cars per day, representing a 28 day supply.
Why the 2015 Honda Fit is not yet being delivered is still a mystery. Some speculation has been that the window stickers showed the wrong fuel economy. I think this has very little chance of being the reason. Another possibility is American Honda is holding them back until the 2013s are all sold. This seemed logical a few weeks ago when there was a 50 day supply. But at this point, Honda is definately losing sales, since at least a third of Honda Dealers have no Fits at all.
It does concern me that there may be some quality issues that have proven difficult to correct. Unfortunately, we will not get a straight answer from most dealers, as they probably haven't been told and would prefer to try to sell you something they do have, rather than tell you about when they will get what you want.
Honda has clearly failed in their initial marketing launch of the new Fit. They would not do this without good reason. Hopefully, all will be right in the end. But the wait is killing me. And since my order is for a manual transmission car, my wait will probably be quite a bit longer.

Approximately 630 2013 fits were sold in the last week and that is a rate of only 90 cars per day. A reduction of about 25%. With 2739 2013 fits left in inventory there still is a 30 day supply at this slower sales rate.
The highest VIN number I have seen so far is 8300, so at least 8300 cars have been produced and 979 of them are shown on cars.com as incoming to 246 different Honda Dealers.
What looked like exiting news, that manual transmission cars started showing up in inventories, petered out, when it is still only 2 6MT cars that are shown in the inventory of just one dealer. No new colors showed up in the inventories of Dealers this week. So despite the continued delay in the release of the already produced CVT cars, those of us who are hoping for a manual transmission or a Blue, White, Yellow or Purple car, will still have at least 2 more months to wait.
I have been looking at, and test driving several other cars. And who knows, I might end up buying something else if the new Fit in my choice of color and transmission doesn't appear soon. Just as at least a couple others here have already decided.
I got to start the demo one as well. Kinda tempting to just throw it in gear and go, but didn't think they'd have much of a sense of humor about it.

I emailed my Honda dealer and said I would be in this week to test drive a 2013....hopefully I can do that today...I orginally fell in love with the 2013 untill she suggested the 2015. Now I am not sure, my color of choice is the purple, if she could find me a 2013 in that color I probably will go that way, or may even move on a black. You gave much information, thanks so much.
I kid, I know nothing.
I personally believe that it is not true.
It is more likely a small recall (or possibly computer update?) coupled with some logistics problems. While everything sounds like they had it "all planned out" in this article, sometimes things just don't go as planned.
Honda to ship new Mexican-built vehicle through Brunswick | Maritime Trade Intelligence
They most likely want to get every car ready to be shipped to the dealer straight away, all at the same time so to not make any one market angry.
It's a rumor from one random guy, on once random comment section in one of many reviews, and he had no source or evidence to back it up.

I'm very easy going and will be buying my Fit anyway but I am a little shocked at the lack of transparency. When you delay a new car by 2 months we deserve to know why.
I agree 100%. I have put my trust in Honda and preordered and still anticipate the delivery. I would rather it be delayed than have recall issues right off the bat
