That's very good mileage for that speed.

drove from Orange County, CA to the mammoth area and back this weekend, averaged 39.9mpg at mostly 70-80mph, did about 40 miles of gravel/dirt roads too, fit is a champ.

I drove 30 miles yesterday and averaged 51.7. Coming home, I averaged 46.1. It was more downhill going.

just did 4 tanks, thanks to a vegas road trip. my #s improved from 36.0 mpg to 36.8 mpg

Mostly consistent numbers, the ones that stuck out was the 5+ hr drive from San Diego ---> Las Vegas, and the drive back home

oct 18 - 38.3 mpg
oct 21 - 38.3 mpg
oct 21 - 35.7 mpg (horrible cross winds on the way to vegas, and tons of traf)
oct 22 - 39.1 mpg (good mpg around town/around vegas)
oct 23 - 37.3 mpg (decent drive home, and 1 monday commute to/from work)

Keep track of wind. It makes a big difference over 10mph.

Guessing you're driving faster than 75-80 mph? Only seen 38mpg a couple of times with my FIT, coming back from New Mexico into the teeth of a 20-30mph headwind. Usually right at 42 mpg, give or take 1.

These Weather Underground stations have weather history at the bottom. VERY helpful.

mph is never a factor, I usually keep my TPS at 20 or under. If that just so happens to be at 80 mph and my gauge is reading that I'm pulling in 50 mpg .... I'll take it. BUT ..... it usually means I'm going 65-70, for those of you who live by MPH

I try my best to just drive, and go for mpg and not worry about the cars around me. In this case, its tough to pull off as I do want to get home sooner than later, and I did find myself hitting 75 mph more often that not, and the many tall mountains and semi trucks I eventually have to overtake dont help my cause

did 4 more fill ups, another vegas road trip (I have a problem). #s improved from 36.8 mpg to 37.6 mpg

oct 28 - 38.2 mpg
oct 28 - 38.6 mpg (not too windy this time around, tons of traf as per usual)
oct 29 - 35.8 mpg (bad mpg around town, tons of sitting in traf and city driving)
oct 30 - 38.2 mpg (smooth drive home, better than the last trip, 1 monday commute to/from work)

10/27/18 = Important Changes To Car:
-Installed Roof Vortex Generators (Shark Fins) ---> at this point, too early to tell if there is or is not an impact on mpg
-4 oz of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) added to tank

I've had my 2016 Honda Fit EX (6 Speed Manual) since May 2018. At just over 15,000km I have consistently averaged 5.8L/100km (40.6 mpg). Although I have noticed that since it started getting colder out my fuel mileage has gone up a few points to about 6.1L/100km (38.6 mpg). I'm thinking this is because of cold starts and the inherent inefficiencies of driving a cold motor for the first 5 minutes of every drive.

I'm very happy with it as this is much better than what was advertised.

As soon as the temperature drops every fall, my MPG drops, too. Where I used to get in the upper 40s, now I struggle to get to 40 mpg. When they switch over to the winter gas mixture, it will drop even more. : (

I have gotten 54 mpg out of our 2016 Fit and not unusually 52 mpg. Stay under 60 mph, no cities (= no start/stop), smallish hills, summer driving with AC off, no leadfoot driving. If I go 65 mph then it drops to 48 mpg. Of course I get less in city driving but then discussing mileage gets pretty meaningless since it is largely a factor of how much you have to stand in traffic, traffic lights, stop signs, etc.

In the warm weather, I would get in the low 50s going into town (15 miles), and the mid 40s coming home - hills.

I took a road trip today: 200 miles, through Sam Houston National Forest (Houston area). Air temperature, mid 40s. Honda displayed 47.7mpg. I find Honda is usually about 2.4mpg too high. Even corrected at 45.3mpg is not bad.

I just filled the tank, and I averaged 39.1 mpg - not very good, but it's 27° out.

Really?? Not very good? Good but maybe not great by your standards, but good for many non Fit owners. Too many variables for judgement on one tank. Obviously, YMMV.

If he topped off the tank before and after for calculating his mpg then it should be very accurate for that particular trip. If I am not getting 40+mpg then I am doing too much city driving.

I've averaged over 43 mpg for almost 50,000 miles, so 39 is definitely low - too much stop and go and short trips - and cold weather - on this particular tank..

Kind Of A Drag, but...

Colder air is also denser, and after doing some long drives that averaged about 4,000 ft of altitude in 100F+ temps last July, I have the impression that the FIT likes thinner air because it reduces drag, while the fuel injection system compensates for the lower air-pressure. We also did a fair amount of driving through Palm Desert and the Salton Sea, well below Sea Level, and mpg suffered there as I expected it would.

My well-informed guess is the FIT has a problem with air not filling in behind it, thus creating a vacuum, as no matter what I do in front I hit a wall on mpg, but with a cross-wind, that wall moves out significantly. Also noticed that above 80mph fuel mileage goes down fast. You can get an idea of the impact of this effect by comparing the Hyundai Ioniq and the Kia Niro. Very similar platforms, but the former is a sedan and the latter an SUV.

I got my pilot's license in San Dimas, near Pamona, and in the winter-time with the very dense Santa Ana winds blowing an aircraft flies completely different than on 100F+ summer days. (Sana Ana winds are dry adiabatic winds which are heated by compression as air flows down mountains into valleys, compressing the air as it does so. By definition then such air is very dense)

I believe this chart is from about -12F to +95F, and shows the air density, and thus the parasitic drag increasing almost 25%. It matters. You can find similar charts for altitude. I wish the round blue display would show the atmospheric density in real-time, as it would make it much easier to understand what's going on with mpg, and the metering system MUST have this info or it couldn't re-calibrate the fuel flow so well in real-time.
