K&N Filter kit for a Jazz
A quick comment regarding the air intake leaning out the "top end" . With just an intake this will not be a problem. It's an Intake not a SC or turbo. A high flow intake will do nothing but good. The only reason Manufacturers don't use them is because of noise and the issue of maintenance .
I got mine off eBay for $13.45 USD including S&H for JDM style.

Which air filter would you put in the factory air box?
a. Honda - $16 @ Bernardi
b. Spoon - about $90
c. K&N - about $40, requires peridic oiling, easy but you need to do it.
d. other and why.
TIA

New K&N filter for the fit. I just got the e-mail from them. $40 isnt bad. I've had great results with them in the past, performance and milage. Prolly grab one this week and let you all know if I find a difference. Anyone else get one, keep us posted.

K&N is always a good product, but I was going to go with a Mugen up until I decided to replace the whole intake. People who had them have had very favorable impressions w/ sound and engine feel/responsiveness. I've also seen similar reports about the Spoon as well. No idea on gains as noone's posted any dynos for any of these. No matter what you choose though, you'll have a quality filter I think.
CAI, short ram intake,or drop-in?
Hi All,
Would like to have your opinion on which aftermarket intake system produces the most low end torque? I'm seriously considering a drop-in filter from Spoon or Mugen. I thought it was interesting that these two manufacturers chose not to offer a CAI or short ram intake. I'm also concerned about it being legit in case I get pulled over and they want to check under the hood! I realize that by just installing a drop-in that my performance gain will be minimal. Also, what kind of mileage drop did you experience? I didn't want to lose what little torque I have! Any comments are welcome....

I saw the filter up on K&N's website last week, but I'm holding out for the T1R intake from AJ Racing. I've had a K&N drop-in filter before on my former 86 Accord, very easy to wash, re-oil, and re-install. Same with the AEM CAI's filter I had on my former Civic, although accessing the filter was more work than on the Accord since I had to remove the Civic's bumper to do so

Forgive my ignorance (i am mechanically challenged and don't know the first thing about mods or tuning)
But aren't these filters supposed to IMPROVE mileage?

Glad to see that K&N has one. I tend to prefer a drop-in when dealing with a daily driver. These little engines don't benefit that much from these fancy intake setups (cost vs perf increase are minimal). I even question how much they contribute to LOSSES in the 'normal' driving powerband. Take a look at any dyno sheet and observe where the 'baseline' and 'parts installed' curves separate...usually I've seen gains appear above 3.5-4k...which makes me wonder what happens down at 1,500-3,500!
If I had to choose beyond a drop-in, I have my eye on the T1R type intake, which seem to produce decent increases and eliminate issues with fitment & water ingestion (since you're not running a tubular intake between the trans and in front of the splash shield). This I've read has good torque increases, which is what really counts for daily street driving. Fitisgo, sounds like you may want to look into this too...and you are asking the correct question! I want to see the gains from an overall increase across the power-band, not the top 10% of the engine's capability! And some will bash an intake b/c the peak HP gains aren't that great...but if I can get 11 ft-lbs peak, and expect close to this across the effective power band, now we're talking!
What I found amusing is that while thumbing through a recent Honda Tuning mag, several of the feature cars had stock factory boxes (silencers rmvd)! I think this shows that the factory air box and ducting themselves are not that big of a restriction. It could be argued that the intake silencer is possibly restrictive...and if anything, it is unnecessary outside of keeping things quiet.
I think people buy intakes for the same reasons they buy after cat exhaust systems - sound, tuner looks, & slight performance increase, in that order. Just my opinion.

sonorliteman - couldn't agree more! I want low end torque and mileage...
Sound? Well, if anything - i'd like it to be more quiet than stock. I really don't understand the fascination people have with loud cars... maybe i'm just old lol - but I don't need my car to sound annoying, just want some "seat of the pants" fun.

The Honda 4 cyl, no disrespect to anyone here, is just great at making noise...I took off the intake silencer on my old Civic and was really impressed by how loud these little engines can be!
As far as getting seat-of-the-pants fun, I still am waiting for a good, low cost (dreaming!) supercharger putting out about 6 lbs. My contention is that if one came on the market for ~1,800 - 2,200, this alone would be a very effective way to make useful power and greatly increase seat-of-pants impressions.

My ride is 2005 F/L model 1.3A FIT, whether is the same as size as what your mention ?
For those of you who want to improve the breathing of your Fit without spending hundreds of dollars, K&N Filters has just released a high-flow flat filter to replace your stock paper filter. Their stock number is 33-2359, and they sell for aboout $40.00 direct from K&N. These don't flow as well as a short ram or cold air intake, but they are better than stock and only have to be cleaned every 50,000-100,000 miles.
I put one on my Fit today and will wait until I have broken my new car in well before I buy a short ram intake from Fujita , AEM, or K&N (when K&N makes one). Right now neither Fujita nor AEM seems to have CARB (California Air Resources Board) exemptions on their aftermarket intakes that fit Sport Automatic Trans. Fits.
