it isn't exactly the "muffler" that is removed. it is the whole axleback part of the exhasut. very easy to do. you don't even need to jack the car up. just remove the two 12mm bolts, and wiggle the rubber exhaust hangers off.

well i just did it. Loving the sound. However my question is since the exhaust fumes exit so early now. Will those fumes leak and enter the cabin??

Hello! Took out the muffler yesterday and I love the way it sounds, I went to some muffler shops here in Fayetteville, NC and asked if they could make a straight pipe, problem is they want to cut the flange from my old exhaust which I don't want to do for inspection purposes. Where can I get an exhaust flange that will fit for a reasonable price?

After 8 months of running with this mod done and no aditional piping added I must concur on the fumes part. I have noticed a bit of weird dizyness from time to time at night. Either I'm really tired after I finish my days at 11pm or there's something leaking in to the cabin. All I know is that now I'm in a rush to get my 60mm Skunk2 exhaust!

well....now that its been confirmed that the fumes do leak into the cabin time to hit up the muffler shops. Are you guys running 2" pipes or 2.25"???

"Technically" you do not NEED to have a muffler at all IF your car doesn't bust the Db level in your state.

The Fit running without a muffler isnt THAT loud. Its about as loud as a fit with an aftermarket exhaust. So sound shouldnt be an issue. The only problem im having is being paranoid of the fumes. But after lots of freeway driving today i no longer am paranoid of fumes leaking.

I'm pretty sure my dizyness is attributed to late night tiredness. BTW, one more observation, I've been running without the axelback nor any extra pipe work to extend the tip to the bumper and the underside hasn't gotten chared or anything. I do clean my car's undercarriage once every few weeks though but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Ditto on the need for a flange source. I'm needing another flange and gasket so I can fabricate my own tail pipe & muffler setup. If anybody knows of a source for those parts, I'd love to see it. I've got another OEM Fit muffler assembly, but I hate to waste it by cutting off just the flange part. Plus, I'd like to go with 2.0-2.25" tube as well, for a future upgrade to the B-pipe.
