I totally agree! I opened the door of the car at the dealer when it arrived and said "omg, they forgot the carpeting"!! I love the car, with that exception. I don't know what they were thinking (or NOT) when they chose to use whatever that is as carpet material. [/quote]

The first thing that I thought was similar to yours "OMG I'm going to tear the carpet under my heals!" I have a MT so there is a lot of heal contact from both of my feet up there and was so happy when my mats arrived the day after I picked up the car. In other cars the carpet is reinforced around there. I wonder if the accountants won this battle and or if it is a marketing strategy for increased mat sales or something else?

I installed the front driver's side hooks for safety issues (mat interfering with the pedal controls). The passenger's front hooks were done just for fun with my 18 month old.

As for the rear mats, I thought that I got a defective mat when I saw no holes in the one mat. It wan't untill I started reading the instructions that I realized that these were just rear mats. They sit on top of a realatively flat surface. They have good non slip material built in to the bottom of them. If they move around they would have very little safety or mechanical issues associated with them . So I shelved the template and hardware and through the mats in.

I think you might have something there! At the price of the floor mats from the Dealer, they must be making a good profit on those alone! I got 4 piece thick carpeted mats at Auto Zone and they are fine....I don't have to really see that cheap padding at least underneath now. For the $25 I spent, I can get 4 sets for what I would have paid for the Honda mats! I just put some of that Rubbermaid no slip mat material for drawers under it and it doesn't slide at all!

Here's an alternative to the $70-80.00 OEM mats and installation hassles, as long as you have a Costco store nearby. Most Costco's have an entire aisle devoted to auto tools, batteries, and accesories. At my local store, I bought a set of universal fit all weather mats, set of 4 for front & rear, for about $16.00. the rears fit perfectly, and I only had to custom trim the driver's side front mat. I bought some 2" wide Industrial Strength Velcro on Amazon, shipper was "CyberGuys" who send out catalogs and have theri own site. I used some 1/8" dia. Pop Rivets to hold the Velcro strip across the bottom side of back end of the front mats, and the other side of strip material I stuck to the floor with just the adhesive backing. These mats are heavy, indestructible, will hold a liter of water in their ribbed convolutions, and with the Velcro do not move around but are still removeable. They don't look quite as nice as the factory all season or carpet mats, but will last forever and took about 15 minutes to install and cost 1/4 the price of OEM.

The all-season mats do have holes, for hooks which are installed in the carpet. The hooks come with the floor mats along with installation instuctions. The carpet is pre-punched with small un-noticable slits where the hooks are supposed to go. You have to finish the cut on the carpet, peel it and the insulation back, and press in the hooks.

Some probably feel that installing the hooks is a waste of time. I don't think they are really that necessary, except possibly for the drivers mat, to keep it from moving.

yeah when u purchase the floor mats either dealer installed or from a website,it comes w/ the mounting hooks. if you read the instructions, it shows where you have 2 cut the carpet. when u go 2 cut the carpet, you will see little slits already in the carpet where the floor mats go. If you bought the vehicle w/ the floor mats but no hooks, go back 2the dealer n tell em that u don't have the hooks 2 keep it from sliding.

Personally, i recommend installing both driver and passenger floor hooks b/c it really does keep it from sliding. For the rear, the rear passsenger side has 2 hooks that you must install but i don't think it is necessary b/c the carpet doesn't move b/c the floorboard of the vehicle restrains it from sliding, plus it is more difficult to install the rear hooks. the rear driver side has no hooks at all.

Ditto the others.
You'll want the hooks for the front (2 each for driver/passenger) , and don't bother with the rear ones. Front hooks took me ~15 minutes total to install, all you need is a utility knife to cut the carpet.

Either get the dealer do them for free, or (if I were you), I'd scold them, have them give you the hooks and at least refund installation fee they may have charged.

Your mats look pretty good- are they an industrial material that you custom cut yourself? If they are available ready-cut, please advise brand name, source, and cost.

Thanks,
Dave

They are called Rubbertite which are made by Lloyd Mats . I got them from AJUSA.com. Front and back cost about $60 plus shipping. Fit perfectly, I love them.

Anphoe,
The perfect fit was shown in your excellent photos- that's why I asked if you cut them yourself from bulk material. Because of all of your information, I ordered a set today. Better price, materials, and fit than the OEM rubber or carpet mats, and no apparent installation problems. Thanks again!
