The Official Shift Knob Thread
Where do you go to check out shift knobs before a purchase? I saw a leather Hurst Shift Knob on eBay a few months ago thinking it was just what I was looking for, but when I purchased it and installed in on my 2008 Fit, the knob rested way too high for me, at least another inch higher than the original knob. I am still looking for some type of leather shift knob, but have grown gun shy. Shift knobs are so personal, I now see the value in trying them on for size, checking them out in person first. But how do you this? I don't know any places in my city that sell shift knobs. And I went to the Honda dealership to check out a 2009 Fit leather shift knob just to see how it felt in the hand and to see if it would look OK on a 2008 Fit, but they didn't have any in stock to show me.

I actually like the stock '09 knob. However, I grabbed a bottle of Testors red flat enamel and a thin brush and painted over the blue in the shift pattern. (I used to paint lead miniatures a long time ago, so...) Came out great, and matches the red steering wheel emblem inserts.
As it turns out, Miata shift knobs are heavier than the stock knob and the thread is much deeper in the knob. Here's some pics...

wasnt another member talking about this knob a while ago. It tells you when to shift and what not, so it supposedly "saves gas". looks kinda cool

Spoon aluminum shift knob + circuit hero shift lever extender =
as much as i'm loving the combo, it did add about a 0.25" to each gear throw. time for a short shifter kit
