I went with the stock size Conti Pro Contact tires on Enkei Racing RPF1 wheels and the difference is amazing..... After six months of driving on them I am still amazed.

 

Which dunlops were you looking at?

The 195/55 z1 star specs I have are actually the same width as continental 205's.

 

^ Yeah I was looking at the Z1 star specs originally but I think I'll get better wear from the Michelins. So, if those Dunlops are almost as wide as 205's whats the max width you could fit on the stock '07 sport wheels? I would be worried about not getting a good enough bead if the tire was too wide.

 

In that size, and wider the Michelin would be a good choice. There are better handling tires but nothing that is going to give you the tread life and ride quality of the Michelin.

Jim, I am thinking about getting some 16" Rpf1's (42 offset) for my Fit Sport. If I run 205 50 16 tires do you think I'll have any problems?

 

I actually have the RPF1 in the 16X7 ET43 available. The 205/50R16 is going to be too tall and is probably going to rub. I would go with the 205/45R16 and you will be fine.

If ou go with the RPF1 wheels you are going to be very impressed with all of the positive differences that they make in many respects..... The reduction in unsprung and rotating weight plus wider offset and width does amazing things for your car that you will notice and appreciate every time you drive it.

Wow, Sears just quoted me $725 for new tire installation for my Fit Sport (195 55 15). I told him that I'd come back later, and left the store ... they said the tire size is rare and expensive? Costco quoted me $417 total.

I have the lightweight Enkei 15x7 rims .. what other tire sizes can I put on there? My old rims say 15x6 JJ and they had the same 195 55 15 that I have on the Enkeis.

195/55r15 is not rare and expensive..... Are you sure you told them it wasn't stock wheels? 195/55r15 is actually pretty damn cheap.

 

Some guys are running 195/50-15s on 15X7 wheels but I couldn't get Tire Rack to mount them on my PPF1 wheels due to safety reasons.....I decided on a performance touring tire in 195/50-15..... If I was into Auto Cross I would have gone with a tire more suitable for that kind of driving but the Conti Pro Contac tires weigh only 16 pounds each, are rated to a maximum tire pressure of 51 PSI and have a higher load bearing rating making it possible to run more or less pressure than other tires.... They ride more comfortably at 42 PSI than the stock Dunlops did at the recommended
pressure and at factory recommended pressure feels very European and more refined at high speeds on long sweeping curves wet or dry..... Yesterday in a downpour I experienced wheel hop in 1st gear for the first time with 45 PSI in all four tires but not once has it hydro planed..... On loose sandy surfaces the stock tires would easily break loose even when keeping my speed up to avoid it from happening on a steep hill but the Conti Pro Contacts will only slip if I get on the boost and make a concious effort to do so.... I came up on a buck sniffing up a doe in the middle of a sweeper doing 90 MPH just as it was getting dark and raining and was able to come to a stop without the ABS engaging or losing traction with lots of room to spare...... I sure couldn't have done that on the Dunlops the car was fitted with when stock..... The way my car is now I really cant see any reason to do any changes to lower it but I am considering a suspension that allows stock hight adjustment and stiffer compression and rebound settings.

 

Will the 215/50-15 actually fit the Fit? Tire Rack has one tire in that size ... I believe my Enkei 15x7 RFP1's are 42mm offset

Nevermind, I ordered the more economical 205/50-15 from TireRack already.

We have tires in the 195/55R15 that start at 64.00 per tire. You would be under 300.00 for the set of four tires. The 215/50R15 is a tire that we show will work.

Long-time reader, first-time poster.

I'm running 16's with Eibach Pro-Kit on factory dampers---no rubbing issued at all. Whether with groceries, IKEA crap, and family in the back seat. No problem.

I'm looking at upgrading in the spring to a set of 17's, and hopefully won't have any issues with rubbing. With the diameter being relatively similar (if I use 205/40/17), I'm hoping to not have any problems.

 

As long as the offset is correct and the wheels are not wider they would be fine. All you would be doing is putting a bigger hole in the middle of the tire.

TireRack success! Found a one-off budget tire shop locally that had super reasonable installation and disposal costs. Handy that the Fit can easily carry 4 new tires and a flat tire ... my car was looking ghetto all week with the tiny donut mounted, haha.

 

I'm considering tires for an '09 Sport. The native size is 185/55-16, and I'm thinking of 205/50-16. The particular tires have a section width .8" wider (20mm) than the OEM tires and are nearly identical in diameter. So if I try to put these on the stock rims, the inside of the tire will be 10mm closer to the wheelwell and might rub. If I put them on TR Motorsports C1 16x7 wheels, which are +42 (instead of +53 for the stock wheels), the -11 and +10 should cancel out and everything will be fine.

Do I have the facts right and is my reasoning correct?

 

You are on the right track. I talked to Jim at Tirerack and he warned me not to go with the 42 offset wheels with the 205 tires. I had Goodyear assurance 205/50/16s and they fit fine on the stock wheels. You really need to find a 45offset or higher wheels to make it fit. My winter wheels are the Tr motorsports in the 15" 42 offset(with 195/60/15s) these actually fit.
