You can try different things.

Here's one.

You are idling not in gear. You are using 0.30 Gallons per hour.
Turn the AC on and now it's 0.40 Gallons per hour. I have AT not MT

Does that mean there will be lower mpg if the AC is on?

My answer would be yes when the car is sitting in heavy traffic and not going anywhere fast.

Some studies (and Mythbusters) have shown that windows up and AC on isn't so bad on the mpg when the car is moving along.
