That would be great. I should just lock the cruise at 30, screw everyone on 422 and the turnpike.

Scan Gauge II allows adjustments for small things.

Set gas type, gas tank size, engine size, adjust up or down for speed accuracy vs speedometer.

It's nice to be able to move the SG from car to car.

You can find one easily on Amazon.com, mine came in 4-5 days.

joining the class

just bought and received my scangauge from Amazon.com yesterday and the insta-mpg is so cool!! I still have to configure xgauge. And the connection

didn't realize how bad the mpg is when accelerating, from stop to about 30mph, mpg is from 5-17mpg!! accelerating mpg with a feather foot (literally) gives about 10-18 mpg.

i've noticed if I lightly pump the gas instead of constantly pressing the gas, the mpg fluctuates from 25-35mpg when my foot is pressing to 40+ when my foot is not pressing the pedal. And when my foot is constantly pressing the gas (normal mode), i would achieve 28-36mpg. I suppose this is one of those factors that might get me past my previous best; 36mpg.

also, (i think someone posted this note already) I noticed when at a stop light, the gallons per hour is around 0.30gph when in drive (automatic car), and around 0.25gph when in neutral. Is it okay to put it in neutral like this? I read in another thread about coasting in neutral might/is bad for an automatic car. Anyone wanna clarify this for me?

No issue at all. Keep your foot on the brake and don't forget to pull it back in drive before starting back up.

I need one of these. I would also like to try it in my V10 F250.
What model do I need?
The scangauge II? Are there different models?

Only one SG II. Fits in the OBDII port then you adjust for your vehicle.

Thanks for the info.
This would be a great tool for the guys who think their intakes are adding 10mpg.
You could simply test with and without it.
I want it because......I'm a techy nerd.
And I want to know exactly how much gas I'm using!

You can try different things.

Here's one.

You are idling not in gear. You are using 0.30 Gallons per hour.
Turn the AC on and now it's 0.40 Gallons per hour. I have AT not MT

Does that mean there will be lower mpg if the AC is on?

My answer would be yes when the car is sitting in heavy traffic and not going anywhere fast.

Some studies (and Mythbusters) have shown that windows up and AC on isn't so bad on the mpg when the car is moving along.

Not true on a Fit and I'd bet any other 100hp subcompact.

MPG takes a huge hit when you run the AC and it's not even notable with windows down at speeds 65 and under.

That's from my own SG data and testing........not generic testing.

Here's one I've been thinking about lately. I always notice that the actual mileage for the tank reads less on the SG than the actual odometer. I'm presuming there's a way to compensate for this in the SG?

I finally got around to ordering a ScanGauge today. Several fuel economy related discussions on another forum brought me looking over here.

Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week, and hopefully it will come in handy, seeing as I now commute 1000 miles a month (if I don't do any days from home).

Still no pictures on how you guys mounted it? Did you all just place it under the gauge cluster? What kind of mounting apparatus does it come with? I guess I'll find out soon!

BTW, my Fit is an Auto Sport. I frequently paddle down to 4th when coming up on a light, and will occasionally shift it to N when stopped at a light. I'll report on whether or not I see fuel cut when decelerating, and what consumption does in D and N, as well as what I see with AC on/off. It's starting to get HOT here, so I'll be using AC a lot, however, I do work until 10pm now, so if it's cooler at night, I'll be able to drive home without the AC on.

Fray, it comes with velcro for the mounting. I mounted mine on the steering column so I could look directly at it while driving.

Ahh... That's probably the best place for it. Easy to see. I hope I'll have it by Wednesday. We'll see!
