I received the second letter but haven't scheduled the service yet. I have one shaft that looks bad, but the other looks perfect so I expect just one will be replaced. Overall, the car looks pretty good rust-wise for an '09 driven in Ohio.

The axles come in kits of 2 so both will probably be replaced.
Got the letter from Honda saying that the parts were in.
Called my local dealer, gave them my info and set an appointment for Friday. The guy suggested that I drop it off. It's going to be annoying if I go through all that and it turns out my parts don't need replacing.
The thought of leaving my car with a car dealer sucks in general.

My Honda dealer is great....I look at it as a fixing visit. Will be like new when it leaves.
Plus...they always wash mine before I pick it up.
Nothing but good experiences with my dealer.
After calling and scheduling an appointment to get the work done tomorrow, I received a call back today:
"We're sorry but the recall only applies to 2010 and up. Honda hasn't released the 'instructions' for 08 and 09. We will be in touch when they release the recall work for 09."
I have a manual transmission '09 and took it to the dealer for routine maintenance yesterday. They checked the axles and confirmed they need to be replaced via the recall, but they only have parts for automatic and are waiting for Honda regarding the manual version of the Fit. No ETA given – which was also the spirit of the recall letter. I suppose my options are to wait for a Honda response to the dealer or get them replaced myself. Sounds like getting reimbursed for the repairs done outside the recall scope is likely a dead-end?

Anyone else experience this?

I'm curious if you guys see open recall info on the Honda Owners site for your cars. I have yet to get a notification, and I'm wondering if it's because my 1st gen has a manual transmission. My thinking is that they're probably prioritizing parts for the autos since the majority of cars sold have auto transmissions.
I drive a 5MT 2012 sport, and recently a I had a cv shaft detach from the motor on the highway due to a bad motor mount loosening it up over time. My dad knows a guy who works for a dealership and does work at his house on the weekends and I brought the reca up to him.
He said they will only replace the shaft free of charge for the recall if the shaft breaks, due to rust hidden underneath the axle boots. If you are driving your car hard and "spin" your axle, honda won't cover that. He also told me that there is no remedy by honda yet, meaning that the recalled part gets replaced if it breaks, rather than repaired. If the axle is fine and there's no visible rust on the black shaft in between the boots, I wouldn't worry about it.
If there's rust there, take it to a dealer, have it looked at.
a remedy is not yet available, meaning that they won't replace it unless you bring it to them and ask for it, and even then probably not unless it's rusted
2010 snapped axle checking in. Car has lived its entire life in MA/NH and I don't go easy on it. Kinda surprised they've lasted this long as it is. I also drive MT and I don't think I have gotten a recall notice yet, but I could have missed it mixed in the junk mail.
Currently sitting in my driveway until I can diagnose other clutch/transmission problems that may have been involved in the snap.
I have some interesting information to add. '09 Fit Sport M/T recently at the dealer for a state safety inspection. Was told they would inspect the driveshafts to see if I'm eligible for the safety recall. Told the right driveshaft is eligible. I look under the car, both driveshafts are completely devoid of paint, save for a few flakes near the CV boots. It turns out the recall notice reads "if there are (corrosion-related protective coating) deformities within 40mm of the dynamic damper, the drive shaft will be replaced for FREE." It turns out the '09 Fit M/T doesn't have a dynamic damper on the left driveshaft. You better believe I'm going to be bitching out the service manager, opening a case with Honda Customer Support, and filing a complaint with the NHTSA if I don't get both of my driveshafts replaced.

Mine snapped while I was downshifting on the highway coming to a stop for a red light. At first I thought I went to second instead of fourth so I thought "there goes my transmission", but it would make more sense that the axle snapped if that's the case, due to the torque. But, my car is fixed now and it's currently at the dealer waiting on a new axle boot for the passenger side, and a muffler gasket for the due inspection. Can't wait to get back in the driver's seat!
Off-Topic: If my axles look okay, could I preemptively give them a coat of paint — maybe one of those Rustolium products that is a paint-plus-rust-inhibitor? I don't want to do a huge prep on the axles. Just clean them and paint them. I think it could work.
