Received Letter Safety Recall Drive Shaft ('09)
I hate car dealerships.
My front right axle broke in half at the stop light (12 Fit, 75K miles).
I paid to tow it to my mechanic, he verified the axle broke in half. I saw we have a recall. I asked Honda to tow it to the dealer and they won't, they will only do it under a reimbursement. I told them to tow it for free, fix the axle that broke in half, and fix the other one that's rusted and peeling. They said they will fix the other one under their discretion. I said there will be no discretion, you replace the obviously faulty part that already broke on the other side or you can keep the car and I will sue you, lol.
I totally understand them wanting to check it out themselves, my mechanic already proved it's the drive shaft and exactly what the recall is. My car is disabled because of their recall, they need to take the benefit of the doubt in this situation and pay for the tow and I will reimburse them if I was wrong, lol. They should be happy my front axle broke while the car wasn't moving and I wasn't injured or they'd have a much larger problem on their hand. Their handling of my specific situation right now, I will not buy a Honda again.
As anything really, Honda's cars 20 years old were built better than the ones from 10 years ago, and are better than the new ones. They don't want cars to last forever, they need to break. Soichiro Honda would probably not be happy. I don't know about you guys, but I buy Honda for longevity. I wouldn't expect this and the kind of service I'm getting from it. Yes it's only a tow that they would probably reimburse, but it feels annoying when the car disabled itself from the recall. It's different if the car didn't break yet lol, I'm finding this as pretty bad customer service.

It's not going to make them money if you only buy one car in your life. There is a balance to how long their parts last. Some don't even have revisioned parts, just replace it with oem that will rust and break again (not saying honda will do that in this instance).
They are not wasting r and d and money to build cars that don't break, they can definitely make your car not need any maintenance but it will cost you a ton. To think they don't want you buying a replacement car is a bit naive, my friend lol. It depends how long you think the car should be lasting.
They don't build them like they used to applies to many things when you view it through the lens of profit. For instance my house had many corners cut because the regulations have relaxed on some components and it's cheaper for the builder to produce it at this quality. E.g. it's now another $500 to do drywall in garage (not included), so most people don't do it. Tell me the last mass produced house you've seen with just studs in the garage, lol.

The dealership referred me to a tow company. The tow company knows my car is under recall and will probably be reimbursed. They wanted to charge $170 for the tow. I agreed until I found another company who would tow it for $80.
Seems fishy to me, what was that tow company going to do, split the extra with the dealership? Lol.
I think Honda and my insurance company has lost me. Car is disabled while driving it because of a recall issue, and nobody wants to tow it or give me a car rental. My 15 year old BMW has given me a better experience than this lol.

My paperwork does not say anything about an alignment. But the whole service is just "Inspected axle shafts, found faulty." "Replaced axle shafts". So there's no detail about any specific steps. The car drives straight, steering wheel is centered and no vibrations. Hopefully I'm good.
That language is a little strong. And it's unnecessary. We're all friends here (except sneefy...that guy's totally whack
). Come on, yeller. You can do better than that. For what its worth, my experience is similar to Reuben's. Honda used to make better cars.

I will say I think I trust my 21 year old Honda more than I’d trust any new Honda. The spark plug ejection that I experienced in my Fit really concerns me going forward. Ditto how much harder it is to work on.

The current Fit has shiny axles, yet...so no recall replacements for me, apparently. I have had to reboot one. The side with the damper that often breaks has a dry rotted outer boot, so I'm just waiting for that day to come around.
Your car is yours. It's your responsibility to get it where it needs to go. If you did your due diligence it would have been at the dealer before it broke.
Insurance scams happen everywhere there is insurance of any type, I've found.
Let's not blow this out of proportion. I don't think yeller meant any harm. In places like Massachusetts, "retarded" is a commonplace (though lamentable) expression.
I'm not sure that I agree with you, mike, but your point has been made. I would only add that the Internet is a poor medium for human expression. Let's move on as a forum of friends and enthusiasts. Let's not do the typical Internet thing of bringing a man down only to start kicking him in the head. Nobody would do that in a face-to-face encounter. Let's not do it here just because the Internet has no accountability. By the way, I never said it was "acceptable." I said, in fact, that it was "lamentable."
I'm ready to go back to talking about axle recalls and spark plug ejections.

my bad on the misquote.
Myself included!
love ejecting spark plugs though
I'm surprised mine have lasted. I have a 2013 Sport, Manual. (Orange of course!) Canada winters (BC Interior very specifically, we. get. SNOW). Never garage parked, Autocrossed once (mind you I went very slow, wouldn't really count it), and with how hard I drive most of the time. I've been keeping an eye on them over the years, knowing it was an issue from all of you friends on the forum. They are getting bad, and was saving up for the replacement. Thankfully Honda issued the recall just in time for me. I got the letter saying parts are ready, just waiting for the call from the dealership
Now.... if only they could do something about that dang rear hatch handle. But unfortunately that does prove @SportMTNavi 's point of being government mandated most of the time. Rear hatch handle is a manufacturer issue that is impeding the normal used of the vehicle, however not a safety related issue. I broke 3 clips fixing it heh. Good thing clips are very cheap.
That being said, I drive my Fit hard. But I've always done synthetic oil changes at 6000km (not paying attention to the thing in the dash), and have had literally 0 issues (other than a bent wheel). Just did my first set of brakes in February. Yes first heh. Just threw on some Proxes on last week \o/

Just to clarify for all the M/T Fit owners here, only the passenger side is eligible for replacement under the recall for M/T Fits. The driver side axle does not have a recall on it. I was disappointed at first that only my pass side would be replaced, but the parts person gave me this information.
