Had an 8:40 appointment for my 2010 m/t Fit today. Brought it in at exactly that time.
At 9:25....I received a text...'your Fit is ready' Axle is replaced.
They also washed it when done.....great service!!!
Just to clarify for all the M/T Fit owners here, only the passenger side is eligible for replacement under the recall for M/T Fits. The driver side axle does not have a recall on it. I was disappointed at first that only my pass side would be replaced, but the parts person gave me this information.

Is Honda replacing drive shafts, or axles? If axles, wouldn’t there be left & right, as well as front & rear?
How can I get my NC dealer to check my car for rust?
I had an appointment and it took 2 hours start to finish. They had the parts ready. They replaced passenger drive shaft and said the other was fine. Then got a free alignment as well. No car wash. Total cost was 0.
Just had my 09 M/T Sport done. Contrary to what they told me on the initial inspection, they ended up replacing both axles. In the initial inspection, only the passenger side was deemed needing replacement, and the parts guy had told me M/T fits were only eligible for the passenger side, so it was a pleasant surprise to see new drive axles on both sides.
I had my passenger axle replaced via this recall a month or so ago (2013 MT) . They didn't replace the drivers side where they said the right side is the only one that's powered. Free axle is all right by me.

That would made the car pull like crazy every time you hit the gas!
There were still two axles intact , they only replaced the one on the right *shrugs*
the right one is much longer and has a balancer mid shaft so it is more prone to corrosion and breakage. They are both powered tho, strange they would tell you otherwise.
2010 Fit Sport, original owner, 132,700 miles. Got my letter a few days ago. Next time I change my oil, I'll take a look at the driveshafts. But, yeah, I'm curious too on how they plan to check it without cutting off the boot. On the other hand, if the boot is intact, shouldn't that have kept the salt off of the inner parts of the driveshaft?
Nope, the boot is the cause of the problem. Water gets between the rubber damper and steel axle mix along with road salt and it starts to rust the axle under the rubber damper. Eventually, the cross-section of the axle will have decrease to the point that any torque applied to the axle will snap the axle. It not just the FIT that has this issue, the Civic is also afflicted with this issue.
Got both of my driveshafts replaced today via the recall. Took about 2.5 hrs and they also did an alignment. Didnt get the readout, but invoice states alignment....and i have no issues while driving.
At my dealership they did the inspection and replacement in the same visit. For anyone taking Honda up onthe recall, id have them clarify if they will be doing an inspection only or an inspection & replacement in one swoop.
Im probably just imagining it but car seems tighter and smoother. Wasnt super excited to take it in because i prefer doing my own work...but glad i did and got OE parts.
I've got two 2012 Fits and had Axles replaced on both yesterday. Had inspection visit a couple of weeks ago where they said both sides needed on both cars. As I dropped off the first in the morning (and they had a loaner for me), they gave an ominous warning - due to the age of the car if anything breaks I'm responsible - meaning I'll get charged to fix. Wasn't too happy to hear that but all went off without a hitch, I don't think of them being that old as they still run and handle like new. The good news is I can't tell any work was done which is what I was hoping since all was well on the surface before. Cars got washed too which they appreciated.
Forgive me if this has been covered already, but what happens after you do the recall? Aren't the "new" axles going to suffer water+salt corrosion damage and fail eventually, too?

Thanks.
I was wondering the same. Id **assume** they revised the design...or coating...but if not, i guess we can hope for another 10ish years out of the replacements? If the latter is the case, im sure they figure there wont be many Fits left on the road at that point.
