Received Letter Safety Recall Drive Shaft ('09)
I think the passenger side loses a bit over 6 ounces ( considering it's a 32 ounce bottle ) when removed and I'm not sure of amount it loses for driver side ( left ) . May want to check A.T.F. level on occasion and look for leaks . Here's the instructions , https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...0V770-0754.pdf and RECALL , https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...0V770-5597.pdf .

Thanks again to those who brought up checking ATF level. I had actually checked it the day before the axle shaft replacement. I checked again yesterday and it was at exactly the same level, in the middle of the "good" zone on the stick. So it looks like the service tech probably knew how much would drain, and refilled that amount. My service order shows 1/5 bottle of ATF as one of the shop materials,
Interestingly, the reason I had checked the ATF before the service was because I had gone over the service items that the dealer might try to upsell me with (air filter, brakes, ATF flush, etc.). The only service the dealer suggested was that my wiper blades were starting to look a little worn.

Called the local dealer yesterday about the recall. They had my vin on file and said they had an opening at 9am today for the fix.
20 minutes after dropping it off..I get a text saying I can pick it up.
I figured that I would get there and they would tell me that mine didn't need replacing after inspecting them.
I get there and the lady service tech tells me that they need to re-schedule my car because they didn't have the correct parts in today.
I was kinda upset, and told her that was my reason for calling and asking if they were ready.
She answered...."We assumed your car was an auto/tranny...we don't hardly ever see a m/t in here for service"
GRRRR!

1/5th of a 1 liter bottle, essentially 32 ounces. And I checked with the engine hot as specified, shut it off, waited 60 seconds, pulled the stick, wiped, reinserted and then checked level. The check occurred at about 75 seconds after shutoff - right in the middle of the 60 to 90 seconds specified in the manual.
Anyone else told that you need to bring the car in twice, once to be inspected, then parts are ordered, then bring the car in for repair? Kind of upset that I need to take two days off for this. As my car was purchased in 2006 I think the chances of the driveshaft being rust free are near zero.
Several years ago the service writer at the dealer made a special point of telling me that they had filled my tires to the proper level. On checking, two were at 33 PSI and two were at 39 PSI. And opposite corners at that which I'm sure will really improve handling.
