What did I do? I realized (again), that it's a pain in the ass to drive with only one hand (sprained my left wrist).

And that I have also proven to myself (again) that I am getting lower fuel economy and general performance with "regular" gas. I had to pump regular when the gas station I got to had an "out of service" note for premium on all the pumps.

My indicated MPG is higher than my last few premium pumps, but that's because it's had it easy so far... not hauling my Ruckus with the hatch open. When the hatch is open, the spoiler acts like a drag chute. The numbers should be dropping tonight as my Ruckus need repairs (had me a fall today) so I'll be hauling it home.

Took my 3 day old 2012 base AT FIT to my (brand new) graddaughter's house...one of the reasons I bought it, for better mileage than my wife's 2002 Ford Explorer gets on what we think will be a frequent drive. Reset the trip odometer (and therefore the mpg computations) in my driveway...drove using cruise control at posted speed limits, seldom touching the gas or brake.

It showed 34.5 mies driveway to driveway, and avg 39.4 mpg. LESS THAN A GALLON! Yeah, I'm happy. My son told me it takes $20 of gas between our homes in his bigblock Dodge Durango...it cost me about $3.85 in the new FIT.

Now only if the AC was a bit better, but from other posts to this forum it appears to be cooling "normally" for a Fit.

The trip consist of 1 to 3 miles in 25mph zones, maybe 5 miles in 45 zones, the rest split about evenly between interstates at 65mph, and improved rural road at 50 - 55mph.

After the trip home avg fuel economy was showing around 34mpg, but I had hit a bunch of slowdowns on the highway ... still not shabby.

Finished high quality paste wax on my 5 day old white Fit...a habit taught to me by my dad 45 years ago. Why wax when it is brand new and just dealer prepped? So you KNOW it has a protective coating right off the bat, no matter how dealer had prepped the car.* So you get familiar with every inch. And biggest of all, to discover any tiny flaws/nicks/scrapes that were overlooked while at the dealer. Didn't find anything...if I had it probably is too late to complain, but not too late to fix before it gets worse.

(*When buying used cars I also change all fluids, flush the radiator, brakes, etc, for a known good start. And I used to work in a Chevy dealer college summers prepping "new" cars that had sat in a snowy open air lots for up to 10 months. The crap they had me do to the poor neglected "new" cars was criminal...like steel wooling rust off chrome bumpers. Yeah, it gets rust off, while making teeny scratches in the chrome, that will rust worse than ever as soon as water or winter salty slush hits it. I haven't fully trusted ANY car dealer since.)

Yeah, I don't know about the rest of the folks here...

but I would avoid working on dirt/gravel. front wheels can slide, jack can slide, jack stand can slide... both can tip over.

nothing stopping the car from dumping itself onto the ground... with you underneath.

Nah it wasn't that bad. What you are seeing there is a thin layer of gravel over a very hard packed ground. That car wasn't going anywhere. I shook it like mad before I started just to make sure (tires still on). I was more nervous about taking out my rear springs which happily I did not have to. Just one bolt gave me a hard time but it was ok in the end!

If I had been working on the wife's Pilot I might have thought twice about it!

The front wheel where chocked for good measure as well.

The whole house is getting remodeled all your seeing there is a little construction grade gravel tossed on to accommodate the trucks and containers...We are gutting the entire place and starting new!

new seat covers coming...

I've asked them to send me swatches before I take the plunge...Please take and post lots of pictures during and after your install. Also please confirm you don't lose any functionality...I'm particularly concerned that the carseat LATCH fittings are still accessible...the hard points on the front of the rear seatbacks, and the attachment points on the backs of the seats.

I wish I could see a set live. Anybody got them in the SF East Bay area who wouldn't mind me coming and looking at them? (I'm in San Ramon CA.)

informative much?

you do realize you neglected to mention WHAT car seat covers you want to buy, right? cause there are at least two popular brands on this forum alone... Clazzios and Coverkings. I have the CKs and they do provide slots to get to the latches, and I'm fairly certain so do the Clazzios. As for other brands, I don't know.

Sorry...my post about seat covers was responding to Jerry's (Greyfox's) post at 7:46pm 8/6 that he had ordered Cazzio triple black seat covers, and Dwayne's 7:53 post that he was jealous. But you're right, I should have specified it was the Cazzio's I was asking about.

And as far as asking for too much info? No apologies for that at all...that's what user forums, especially non-factory authorized forums like this, are all about: Info about the vehicles under discussion, and what have been done to them...and sharing of information. If I'm asking too many questions or for too much info for your tastes? Then you're free of course to ignore them.

As these seat covers will cost me around $500 if I decide to go that route, I don't mind trying to find out more before committing to the purchase. (Why $500? Because I only have use of one hand so will be paying someone to install them, as well as the ~$450 purchase cost.)

But still my bad for not quoting Jerry's post so it would be plain what I was asking about.

Paul you are banned from the forum for a minimum of 30 days!!! Maybe after that you'll have learned to post with UNERRING SPECIFICITY no less than 100% of the time!!!!!

Haha, just kidding. You're not really banned.

But seriously, you're banned.

That's okay...as Groucho said, "Please accept my resignation. I don't care to belong to any club that will accept me as a member."

Oh wait, I'm banned. That means this forum (club) DOESN'T accept me as a member.

OK, in that case, I'll stay.

To stay in the spirit of this thread: Today I went under the hood and checked all fluid levels. Yeah it's brand new, but now I KNOW the dealer's gremlins filled everything up as they should have. Boy it's nice to see a sparkling engine bay! Hope it stays that way for a long time.

Who said you were asking too many questions? Were you mistaking informative with inquisitive? One is providing info, the other is requesting it.

Sure, before you responded I looked back through the last few post and could've assumed that you were talking about clazzios. But your post got separated from theirs and there's always an issue with assumptions.

There's a saying about the word "ASSuME."
