2015 Dealer Price...and What You Paid
Winter Honda in Pittsburg had em coming this week so I drove there. I will get the paperwork when the car arrives at the end of this week and break it down.

I have noticed on Cars.com now that an awful lot of dealers are now charging $1000-$1500 premium on the cars. I paid $20590 for my EX-L and they are now going for $21590-$22,000. Pretty unscrupulous for a dealer to take advantage of people like that. I hope when the tables turn and there is an excess of cars on their lots that people won't buy from them because of it.
I was charged about 900 extra for this crap. They refused to take it out of the car saying it was already installed and couldn't remove it, despite my frequent attempts to have them do so. I was charged 565 for the unit itself and 299 for the activation code that lasts 3 years...
1. Black LX CVT
2. Georgia
3. MSRP
4. $17k + $600 doc fees.
Problem here was I couldn't negotiate very much. The dealer didn't even have an LX in stock, and had to drive to TN to get it. But I was determined to get this car, so I paid a little extra I believe.
It's my first honda car, but second honda vehicle ('02 Honda Shadow), and my first brand new car. Already put about 1k miles on it, and getting about 41mpg of mostly highway driving.

1. White Orchid Pearl EX CVT / Body Side Molding, Door Edge Guards, Rear Bumper Applique, Splash Guards, Wheel Locks & Cargo Cover
2. Pennsylvania
3. $19,025
4. $18,535 + options, fees, taxes
I had requested internet quotes from nearby dealers and the one in our town came back with invoice price....pretty cool! The car was not even on the lot. It took approximately 2 months until the car was delivered.

Wherever these fortunate people live who are getting better than MSRP or who might have walked into some dealership at just the right time when circumstances led them to be willing to sell for less, their admonitions to the rest of us that we too could have gotten a better deal are not necessarily true in all places or all dealerships.
You overall didn't pay "a little extra". A whole lot of people are paying MSRP.... including me for a black LX CVT. That isn't uncommon with this car. I'd never paid MSRP before. MSRP isn't a huge amount over true cost with this car as it is with most others, though. We are seeing people here who are reporting these fantastic deals they're getting, but that isn't reality for most of us no matter how hard we bargain, and in some towns, you can spend all day going dealer to dealer and you're still going to hear from all of them that if you want one of the only two cars they have on the lot, you're going to need to pay MSRP. Problem is, they know that they can just wait around a few hours after you leave indignantly and someone else will show up and pay MSRP. This will probably change as initial demand declines, but we're the early buyers and we pay for it.

I guess my point is that dealers are generally pricing to maximize profit, which includes factors such as how long they will have to sit on a car to sell it or how badly they want a dollar immediately vs. more at a later time or date. For a car in short supply and high demand, generally most of them have little incentive to price lower than MSRP, and in some areas where demand is high enough and supply low enough, they can price above MSRP and still sell the car. When that is true, it makes no sense for them to price lower. They shoot not just for where they can make a profit, but where they can make the most profit possible balanced against the time they're willing to wait for it. At the time and geography that I bought, many dealerships had none of these, the few that had any had only 2 at most, and they smugly recognized that if I refuse MSRP and walk out, someone else will be along in an hour or two who is happy to pay MSRP. So why would they be willing to haggle in that case....
But we're really not disagreeing here. I think you're just saying that it is worth pushing anyway, because they are capable of selling for less and very well might. And I would absolutely agree with that. But in the event that someone isn't in a place where that succeeds, he or she should not feel ripped off to be charged MSRP for this car.
FINALLY after a TWO MONTH wait, I am picking up my White Orchid Pearl EX from my local dealer on Friday (just arrived via a pre-planned dealer trade across state line)...yippie!!
EX, White Orchid Pearl, no dealer add on accessories
North Carolina
MSRP, $19,025
Sale Price: $18,500 (pre-negotiated at time of deposit)
OTD price: $19,772.95
($18,500 + $550 sales tax + $69 tag/title + $99.95 electronic registration + $549 doc fee).
Question: does the doc fee seem reasonable and WTH is "electronic registration" and is it a valid charge?
EDIT: just dawned on me that the electronic registration is likely the typical NC state "registration"...the "electronic" part threw me off!

my price was a bit high, but I tell myself... early adopter fee for a hard to find color and transmission combination.
Scottsdale AZ, Right Honda
White Orchid Pearl 6MT with the listed accessories (Llumar window tint, wheel locks, trunk tray, splash gaurds, all season floor mats)
Price of car and accessories 19393 (1168 in accessories/ cannot decline) + 1468 (taxes @ 7.9%) + 449 (doc fees) + 315 (title and MDV) ... OTD price 21,625.
I have signed the contract in hand with VIN number. I should take delivery next week or first week of September. I can still decline the car if comes too dirty or unsatisfied.
overall, I think the accessories package is not too bad... but the taxes and the doc fees are really horrible.

Hey all, first post. I'm considering a red EX local to me and I'm wondering what you guys think. I did the Costco thing and was quoted at $100 above invoice. The number they gave for the price of the car (excluding all other fees including tax) was 18449. I'm ready to buy the thing and Mr. salesman says "oops I miscalculated invoice, it's actually $170 more than that." So I left and said I'd think about it. Anyway, here's the printout, what do you think of the deal?
Price of vehicle: 18,636
Tax: 1734
Weight fee: 8
Registration: 193
County Fee: 20
Electronic Filing: 20
Smog Abatement: 20
Doc Fee: 80
OTD: 20720

Here you're ordering a car, and I didn't catch whether you were ordering one which they are obtaining from the factory, or if this was a car that was already on another lot and they're merely transferring inventory for you.
If it's a factory order, the accessory business is just absolutely a case of the dealer taking advantage of you because NONE of that comes from the factory and the dealer would be insisting on it knowing that they'll be putting it on after it arrives and that they could simply not do that.
But if it's transferring from another dealership and those things are already installed, you're only partially being taken advantage of because at least the cargo tray and all season floor mats can all be taken out and replaced with the standard carpeted mats. No excuse for them to fleece you on those things. And the rest of it would be more uncertain, but I've had success in the past at complaining about built-in accessories that I didn't want (mud flaps or whatever) and getting them to sometimes throw an item in and sometimes at least lower it to their cost if they won't do that. But in this case, if it's a transfer, doing either of those might not be possible and the only part that they could have allowed for is to take out the all season mats and cargo tray. They know well that you would have difficulty otherwise finding this car so even that will be used as a tax for wanting a hard to get car.
Very unfortunate, and shame on the dealer, but I would agree that you weren't left any choice if you wanted the car.
