What did you do to your GK Fit today?
I remembered that in 2004 my credit union loan department at the time (credit union is like a bank for those not familiar) sold extended warranties that I purchased then on a used Mercedes I bought on Ebay. So I called the loan department in Dec 2023 at the credit union and spoke to the banker. He said he would sell me a used car extended warranty for a maximum of 3 years and 36K miles from 88K for $1000 cash and $100 deductible per claim. So I would be covered until 124K miles and Dec of 2026.
Decided to go with that since I am not driving the FIT a lot now, so it would last 3 years.
A month into the warranty the Starter blew, and now the Transmission 9 months into the warranty.
I guess call your bank or credit union car loan department and see if they can sell you an extended warranty, if interested.
I will tell you though--if you cannot prove maintenance with documentation--claims can be denied. With my FIT all the documentation on maintenance (except tires) is with Honda and is also reflected on the Carfax History report. The extended warranty company also reports to Carfax and has denoted both the warranty and the repairs they paid for on my FIT's Carfax.
@howarejew If you look at the billing detail, that washer actually costs $8.00. They paid $5.81 which is an approximately 30% discount.
If you went to a Honda Dealer and they offered to sell you a new car for 30% off sticker--you would buy it!

I imagine there was some profit built into that pricing.
Before I knew the Warranty would cover it, I called 2 independent repair shops people like around my area and they both quoted the same about $750 to do the job. They said only Honda makes the part for the FIT and it's in the $400 to $450 range (Jan 2024) and the rest is the labor charge. [I believe the Honda starter is now over $500 after the recent parts price adjustment.]
I guess if you replace it on your own--you can save the labor costs...

Have you had the need to replace the starter in your FIT yet?

I installed this cheap Amazon starter last weekend.
$172 and seemed like a nice unit. Works great so far but time will tell. As far as being a DIY job though, I'm a mechanic (Aircraft) by trade and this was a proper b!tch to install in the driveway. On a hoist, it would be easier but still not a rookie job.

After almost 2.5 years, I'm sad to say I got my very first check engine light in my 15 LX this morning. Fortunately it's not a major problem, just a P0171. I was monitoring live data on my drive to work this morning and the short and long term fuel trims are at 22-28% on cruise, but the short term fuel trim drops right back down to 0 on hard acceleration and there's no loss of performance. That tells me that there's no problem with the fuel.
That being said, I have exactly 17 days left to get the fuel injectors done under the extended warranty for them free of charge, and because P0171 is one of the prerequisite codes, I might as well get free new ones from Honda (plus getting paid to work on my own car as a dealer tech). And it'll finally give me an excuse to see how my intake valves are doing (I'm walnut blasting them either way, I just want to see how much carbon it has after 130,000 miles). I think the actual cause is a leak somewhere in the intake piping. It's strange, I put a Takeda AFE CAI on over a year ago, and it hasn't acted up at all until now despite me driving it very spiritedly virtually every day.

VTC Spring
Did my VTC spring yesterday. I used the longer of the 2 springs that I got from Spring-Start. Wouldn't call it a FUN job, but it sure sounded nice when it started up. It had sat for about 8 hours. Time will tell because it wasn't doing the rattle every time before.
Let's hope it's good to go.

Hi Nayov. What's interesting is that there are 2 or 3 adjustment stops in the extended portion of the travel, including the very end. I suspect this might actually be a built in option that dealers could use if a potential buyer complained of legroom. If so, what they have done is have the rear stop as the factory stop, but also a forward stop, further back, that would only come into play when the mod is done. I'd have to remove the seat to verify this but that's what it feels like. Either way, it's very solid and I love it!!! Thanks.
My car is over 10 years old and I never changed the headlights. Today I changed them for brighter headlights. Dang, the old ones looked so bad, I'm surprised they still 'worked.' They both had big black marks but one had it with a big bulging bubble. When it gets dark, I'll take a ride with the new ones to see how much better they are. The bulb on the passenger side was about to drive me nuts because it was much harder for me to put back together. I couldn't see what I was doing.
Last week I had the manual transmission fluid changed for the first time in 77,500 miles. Had new tires put on too along with an alignment. It shifts easier and the road noise sure went down.
Although I really like my 2015 Fit I bought in June of 2014, if the time comes for a financially responsible car upgrade, I'd consider another manual but with more safety features. Something like the Golf GTI. I'd sure lean towards another hatchback. Sedans just don't do it for me in looks and being practical. Still, right now it's wishful thinking and in the meantime, I'll enjoy my paid off a long time ago Fit that I still very much enjoy driving. Sure like the Corolla GR base, but too rough of a suspension to be practical and the road noise is for the more sporty people. The Civic R is sure nice but too racy looking for my taste. Anyway, it's fun exploring the options.
Oh, I added a Rexing dash cam with front and back camera. Too many crazy drivers out there and I wanted some 'witness protection' added. Rexing reviews by truckers were positive and mentioned how they last so long compared to others that had major names and higher cost.

Highly recommend the new spring.
