Quality Issues with new Fit
Pulling on it to show that it's not attached. Pulling everywhere else on seals doesn't allow it to separate from the metal. It looks (and feels if you don't tug on it) fine, but I was trying to find where water was getting in.
Nooooooo!
WTF!!
I have nothing constructive to add! Does make me wonder about the internal reliability though (Earth Dreams Direct Injection, CVT Transmission). I mean, if they aren't getting the hardware right, what about the CVT belts or the D.I. engine with it's high compression. Long term.....
Yeah, first year model at a new plant (Mexico), new engine (Earth Dreams Direct Injection), New Transmission (CVT). Maybe this is just a little too much New......
Surprised I'm not reading more about the engine and tranny areas.

The engine has been out in japan before the US, same with tranny. The accord has had DI for a year as well. We would have heard by now, some accords have 70000 miles on them. I realize it's a different car, but same technology, cvt and DI. I got manual anyways. I'm loving the car! Just drove through a major storm today, no water. I'll check again later to make sure, and I had the same loose seal.
I ask because I don't know.
The CVT plant in Mexico isn't going to be ready until next year, so yes, the existing plant is doing primarily assembly with those major components being built in Japan.
Also, the factory is state-of-the-art with a few new innovations in paint and assembly which were designed to be more efficient. It sounds like some people have this idea that the entire vehicle is being tooled up by hand and that's not really accurate as it uses robots and other modern automations.

I will say that I like the car, it has some pep! Just broke it in, now giving it some gas, and it's awesome! I am coming from a ford ranger, though, and this car weighs half that.

Honda declined to give even a general description of which parts didn't measure up "because we don't need our competitors doing tear-downs to our cars," Martin said. But he noted that the Celaya plant relies more on manpower than the Fit "mother" plant in Yorii, Japan, which uses more robotics.
I just got back from a dealer and have some information about Fit quality issues. Honda corporate support told the dealer to replace my entire touchscreen head unit because of the YouTube video I posted of the LaneWatch glitch where it showed the rear camera. So Honda is aware of this issue, and said they did not need to perform any diagnostics on my car, and are instead choosing to replace a very expensive part.
I also asked the service manager about the gap in my steering wheel grille. He said it was just "fit and finish" from the manufacturing and that Honda does not consider it an issue. He said the entire wheel would have to be replaced, they can't just take apart the wheel and slide the grille to be centered. We both looked at the one Fit they had in stock and it also had a similar gap. I keep mentioning to these Honda people that the Fit in the brochure and the website looks perfect, so I would expect my steering wheel to look the same, but they all say it is normal for the steering wheels to have variations. I was told that because the Fit is mass produced that they would have variations, which makes no sense because mass produced products would go through the same process and mass production typically indicates products are identical. If each Fit was built to order then that would introduce variations. The service manager said he did not even consider the gap in the plastic to be a gap. I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Not a big deal.

I wonder if Honda decided to replace the head unit quickly and without making you jump through hoops because it was the right thing to do or because of the negative publicity?
Regarding the steering wheel, it is a tiny issue, but if Honda is going to produce these "Star Trek" looking parts they should at least do it correctly. Little things like this make a car look shabby before its time.
I forsee a lot of people taking to YouTube with their warranty issues!

I wasn't trying to pressure Honda by posting the YouTube video, I more wanted them to see it in case their engineers were not yet aware of the issue. It might be the only photographic evidence of it actually occurring so I wanted to share it, because most people don't drive with a video camera, and it was only on the display for a few seconds.
I emailed my dealer three times about the video, encouraging them to share it with Honda technical support, and they ignored all my emails. So finally I tweeted HondaCustSvc and got an immediate response, which led to corporate calling me and setting up a repair. Below is what I tweeted to Honda:
Please make sure that you tell Honda Customer Service about this lack of response from your dealer! Somebody needs to hold their feet to the fire.
Ya seriously. Honda's twitter account at first just told me to work with my dealer. When I told them that my dealer ignored my three emails and one phone call then corporate support started working with me directly. Support is calling me back soon to let me know when the new head unit will arrive, so I will ask them what was the deal with the lack of support I got from Laurel Honda, and maybe encourage them to burn their feet a little.
Are everyone else's perfectly centered? I'm worried it will collect grime. It kind of defeats the purpose of adding a decorative plastic grille if they aren't even going to make it look good.
Sorry to keep bringing up this minor thing, but Honda should stop manufacturing these cosmetic defects.
Can you send me a picture of your steering wheel grille gap?

My dealer will be detailing all of my alloys, especially the one with a metal burr protruding. I also found some yellow marks below the clear coat on the rear quarter panel that they will be having a body shop correct.
Love the car otherwise.
