Also, when I went to the press release event and test drove the EX manual for hours, I could have sworn it had less road noise than my friend's LX. I know that the LX has different materials for the undercarriage paneling, maybe that makes a difference in interior noise... I'm not sure there just thinking out loud.
Do the EX and LX use the same tire? (Not size, but tire model/compound/etc.)

That could explain the road noise difference.

ooh I didn't of think of that, to be honest I'm not sure. I'll try to find out next time I see an EX or EX-L

By the way, I checked his car the next morning and mysteriously the headlights are free of any condensation now? We'll see if it comes back.

I was playing around with my friend's Magic Seats today putting the bench up and down and when I tried to get the driver's side bench to come back down from the upright position, the seat wouldn't lock into the floor. It was slightly higher than the passenger side. I had to sit on the seat for it to lock down, but when I lifted it and tried again, it was stuck again. I looked underneath and couldn't see anything that would obstruct it. I did however find a random plastic clip sitting on the floor, not sure if it's related to this problem.

I looked at the headlights again and there is a small amount of condensation still inside his headlights. He's dropping off the car for dent repairs at the dealer this week so I told him to ask about both things, we'll see how it goes.

I also noticed that the transmission transmits a fair amount of noise during clutch engagement. Maybe it's just because I have an exhaust on my car and it drowns out the noise, but I'll listen more carefully next time to see if it seems excessive or not. 1st gear also feels like it's starting to stiffen up and takes more effort to engage compared to all other gears, I even had a point where it almost didn't go in at all. My 08' Fit as well as my friend's manual CR-Z has a tendency to do this. The only way to get it to engage when it gets stuck is to let off the clutch and get on again or row though a few other gears, very annoying if you're leaving from a red light and there are tons of cars behind you. I'll drive it again soon and see if it worsens.

I STILL like the car a lot and would still pin it as my next car, but I'm starting to believe it wasn't as much of an improvement over the older models as I thought.

Car went to the dealer today (a different one close to where I live now),
and they have a long list of things to look at. It is supposed to be looked at by the Honda rep they have out here. Lets get these paint issues/gaps/warping/tpms/panel alignment issues settled! They also supposedly have my new bumper support upgrade...
Must say, if you're getting the runaround by your dealer contact the Honda service guy on this forum. Good communication, follow up, and interested in resolving your (car) problems.

Collapsed rear shock tower cover

I have found only one issue with my wife's new White Orchid Pearl EX-L with Navi. The cover in the trunk area is collapsed over the right shock tower. The left appears to have some support under it. I tried lifting it back out with a thin wire but it will still collapse back down if anything hits it.

Should there be some sort of support in that location? Anyone else have that problem? Anyone willing to poke around on theirs to see if it will also collapse?

bigbadvoodooguru, good luck with your latest attempt to get honda to do right by you. i'm relieved to see that you have a customer service advocate to work with. your thoughtful, well documented posts have helped a number of us uncover quality control deficiencies in our own new vehicles. keep us posted. we await and hope for a happy ending to your saga.

Hi furtledurt,

Thank you,

Brian Jones, keep us posted on this, would you? i too, have the moonroof gasket lower than flush on the front edge and higher on the rear. i've had two trips to the dealer for the a pillar door gasket gap and resin like material covering the hatch paint. i'd like to know what the sunroof gasket fix is before going to the dealer.

I apologize, firstly, for my laziness in not reading this whole thread completely. I was hoping someone could answer this question: Are there any very serious problems appearing in the new Fit.

Of course if you pay full price for a new car and it has several major cosmetic issues that is serious to you, and I don't mean to minimize that. What I am asking, though, is has anyone encountered engine/drive-train or safety related defects. Any issues with the direct injection so far?

IIRC, a FF member experienced a complete clutch failure.

Several have reported issues with the right-side camera not showing up on the screen when expected, which is a safety concern.

Several have also reported defects in the vehicle's glass, which is also a safety concern.

The thing with cosmetic defects is that they are visible to the buyer. Mechanical defects are not visible and may not be evident right away. A poorly-machined cylinder, for example, might make for a 75,000 mile engine life rather than a 200,000+ mile engine life.

CittyFitty: I will post about the resolution as soon as I am able. I left for an extended trip overseas just when the Honda rep. contacted me; thus the delay. I should have something to report toward the end of October.

Guess that's why they're giving out free warranty extensions to 6 years with new purchases. I'll be keeping an eye out for these issues when my car comes in Nov, though I'm hoping everything is hunky-dory

Man I would have loved that!

I didn't pay for the extended warranty. I was a bit annoyed that I didn't get a couple of years of free oil changes like we got with my husbands toyota truck. And a 3 year warranty does seem short...

But anyway, to chime in on this thread, Just bought a fit today, and I noticed it said the engine was made in Mexico and the transmission is from Indonesia. I know on other fit freak threads there was discussion on where the engines were from.

Cuz of this site, I did look at it head to toe before I signed on the dotted line. I didn't find any problems with the gaskets, paint, door alignment, etc. and my steering wheel grill insert thing is like half of a half of a half a mm off...nothing is ever notice if it wasn't pointed out.

Hopefully the car stays in good condition. This thread almost made me try to back out of the purchase, not that I could have... But it is a great little car and I'm just hoping there are no problems with it.

And the last 5 of my vin are in the high 23000s.

It is helpful I think when people add their vin range so we can see if it's early problems or continuing.

VIN 24600+ No problems so far at 13 days and 262.5 miles (47.5 miles left on range, 3 segments lit on fuel gauge, and 34.1 mpg avg). Have already checked the fuel filler door and fuel cap operation.

VIN 24100+, No issues to report.

I got to test the fuel filler door and fuel cap operation four times already.

Averaged 32.8 MPG over the first 987 miles.

Had two short trips 61 miles each way and one long trip 300 miles each way.

Nah… I've yet to fuel up yet, but am getting pretty low. I just made the point I've ops checked it before I need it.
