We need a good sound/performance example video, so I made one this morning. SSR likes proper valve timing + premium fuel (I'm guessing the higher IAT). No longer falls on its face. Enjoy.

Weird, that's what mine sounds like too!!

Great vid, really captures what the SSR Intake sounds like. Quiet at idle and part throttle, and wailing at WOT to redline.

 

anybody in Vancouver Canada do this? Cant seem to hunt down the tubing....

 

just look for shops that build turbos... the tubing i bought is made by vibrant performance

 

Installed the DIY SRI lastnight before heading to work, just in time too! how ever i did cut the hole for the sensor a little too far so it barely reaches, is there an extension i could get or should i just get another piece? (only about 10bucks) Love the result on it thought, and saved about 100bucks from getting a name branded one..My only concern is, i live in CA, will i run into smog check problems?

Completed this on Thursday. Thanks Sid for the great DIY. Love the sound and was surprised by the added performance; less boughing on the local hill.

This intake compliments the powerband nicely.

 

Decided to try the single bend today and how it compares with the double.

First, heat soak (of course). Then I thought, oh yeah, bone's old school method. It's still summer. Rear weatherstrip *yank*. No more heat soak.

Definitely noisier, but I dare say it makes significantly more top end power even if it is right behind the radiator. Double bend seemed to pull a little more down low.

Between the tone of sound (which I like better this way) and the lack of anything around the filter to damage it, I'm going to run it this way for a while. Feels a lot like my old car the way it wakes up at about 4k rpm.

 

I checked the vibrant stuff and its like $30-$40 for the 90degree elbow. Anyplace that sells it cheaper?

I had a buddy pick up one spectre elbow when he was in the states even though I asked for two... so now I am running the single bend and it does get too hot. Anybody willing to drive to an autozone for me and send one over? Will pay you for everything. Closest autozone across the border is still pretty far away...

 

I remember seeing the type of tubing you are looking for on ebay. I lost all of my links 2 weeks ago when my laptop died or I could give you more info...

That is silly to me too.

 

When I put in the second 90 i found that the suggested air filter was too large so I went with a slightly smaller one. That plus the second elbow seemed to help and the suction sound is much deeper now.

 

I tried it with one tube back when I first installed the SRI and I found that with a single bend, the car seems to be more responsive with power gain. Then I tried to double bend where I stayed because I think it reacts close to stock and also gives power gains.

 

What is this wrapped with?

I have a quick question that was raised and unanswered (I think) earlier in this thread. What happens if I want to wash out the engine now? I'd imagine this is a pretty standard question amoungst all custom intakes, but I need to ask. Shall I cover the filter(s) with something?

I don't even bother with a bag. Honestly, when it rains the filter gets wet.

When I hose down my engine, first I make sure and not spray any cleaner directly on the filter. Then when I rinse, I just don't spray the filter. If some splash gets onto it from areas around it, no big deal.

But to be super safe, you could just use a plastic bag as mentioned with a rubber band around it.
