Mileage reports: Manual transmission (5MT)
You lucky son of a B. I wish i got 40. I live in San francisco, full of hills. Glad to hear from another hapy fit owner. What always impresses me is it can get its mileage, and is pretty fast.
Doc,
My results on the first tank with my AT Sport were similar (39 mpg), but never equaled in the next 8 months of driving. Probably due to delivery dealer filling the tank COMPLETELY, and the average gas pump clicking off before complete filling is achieved. There are several threads on tank filling technique vs. accurate mpg calculations. I hope that you will see similar results in the future, but I doubt that you will.

Ciburri, are you absolutly sure about your facts here?
I have searched various technical documents and cant find anything other than the EVAP cannister that has to do with fuel:
"Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Control Diagram" <- On the bottom of this page is a diagram that show how it works and what I can see it only takes the fumes from the fueltank and not the fuel in liquid form. If the valve on top of the fuel tank is open when the ignition is of then you will probably fill up the EVAP canister. But I cant think of any reason to let the canister be filled up of fumes when your not using the car?
So I think this valve is closed when ignition is of. And you dont have ignition on when pumping fuel into the car?
EVAP System Component Location Index <- the bottom image shows where the EVAP cannister is located.
Fuel Supply System Component Location Index <- here is the whole fuel system and no other cannister than the EVAP is mentioned on the Jazz/Fit.

Filling technique should not effect MPG calculations at all... you just need to be consistent about how YOU fill it. On the first tank, it will not be 100% accurate, since you did not fill it up, you don't know how much they did or did not squeze in. Each fuel pump may vary slightly about when it clicks off, but we're talking a fraction of a MPG. The filler neck on a Fit is really long, probably a gallon or more... so it could have a major impact on calculations if you are not consistent about it. (400mi/10ga (not filling the neck) = 40MPG. 400mi/11gal (filling the neck) = 36.6MPG)
One thing you have to realize is I am in Colorado and this was going through a pass and through mountain twisties. I am highly impressed with this car.

So the first tank was not a fluke.
2nd fillup was 38.78mpg. This was very mountainous terrain a/c on and varied city driving. I expected to get much less and was super surprised!!!
Overall average is close to 41mpg on 2 tanks.

I made a trip from Dallas to tallahassee, Fl last week and this what I got.
Going down and driving at an average speed of 75+ I got roughly 33mpg. Coming back I decided I would try something different. I drove at 65 mph or less and got roughly 38.5 mpg on the first tank. I decided I needed to make up some time so I drove at a higher speed after that. So my conclusion is that if you can drive at 65 mph or less you should be able to get at least 38mpg. I have not tried this in city driving, but I will do this in this upcoming week to see if I can get better gas mileage. Also, I asked the service tech at the dealership about topping off the tank and he said it wouldn't do any harm. I figure he should know if it would or not. At 38mpg this would allow me to get roughly 450 miles out of each tank before having to refuel which is pretty sweet if you ask me. Anyway, thought everyone might be interested. In the future please post your driving speed with your mpg average. I am curious if it is just me that is getting these results.
Thank you,

Yahoo autos states that the civic in general gets better overall mileage with a larger 1.8L engine, Automatic transmission being the higher @ 40Mpg. The Fit gets clocked in at 38Mpg with a Manual. Does anyone own an 06-07 civic? I want to know if it's true that.
First tank on my MT Fit = 29.5mpg! Not bad for a newbie stickshifter driving all city miles.

Second tank got 37.7 mpg ...
