Paint Peeling from Front Bumper - Page 14

My dealer wanted to see my peeling bumper. They will repaint it.
I sent them this thread and I think they've understood. They said that it has appened on some civic. The paint is not dry enough when the bumper is cliped. It's not the dimension who is important but the quantity. bye!

Went into town earlier and saw the red Sport Fit that is 1 of the other 2 that are in this small town, so I stopped by to see if her paint was peeling too. Sure enough it was in the same spot, the right rear above the tire.

She was too busy to look at it (she was at work) but I told her about it so she knows now.

So there's another one doing the same thing.

Press sticky tape (like Scotch Tape) over the goo and peel. If theat does not work, try a little 'Goo-Gone' on a Q-Tip.

If Honda wont stand up and take responsibility for their screw up by telling those who bought their product someone needs to.

Hello all,

It is with great sadness that my first post has to be in this thread. I found this board after searching on google for Honda Fit Paint. This afternoon, I went to a coin-op car wash to wash my car. I had just come back from a couple 700 mile road trips of which close to half was at night so I had a lot of bugs stuck to the front of my NBP Fit Sport. Those touchless car washes never get all the bugs off so I went to a DIY one so I could make sure I spent ample time in the areas that needed it the most. As I was spraying the bugs off the bottom edge of my hood, I noticed a couple chips of paint which came off with the bugs! I about fainted right there. My brand new car, just over two months old with about 6,000 miles on it and already I have chips in the paint! From BUGS!!! I couldn't believe that it was anything I had done or stone damage this early in the game. My last car I drove to 275k and it would have been barren of paint by now if it would have came off this easily with only insects. I searched google to see if anyone else has had issues with the paint on the fit and that's when I found this thread. Every post I read, my heart sank a little lower. I got up through about page four when I skipped to the last page, hoping that after nearly 300 posts that Honda would have announced some kind of recall, but alas they have not and it is just more of the same. I checked my back bumper at the wheel well and while I don't see any metal yet, I did notice for the first time a little rubbery strip of paint coming out the crack. Tomorrow I'll post some pictures if anyone is interested. I worked so hard to get my Fit and drove 2 and a half hours each way to get it. Hopefully my local dealership and Honda US will be willing to do something for me.

I emailed this thread with pictures to my dealership and my salesperson said he would forward to the mechanics for reference.

I requested the nylon 3/16" washer insert- maybe that will help.

Paint quality or the lack thereof is a different matter.

What if I had the new FIT clearcoated aftermarket? I bet that would help although it costs me.

PLEASE call Honda America - anyone who is having paint issues. there is never going to be a re call because they are busy covering this problem up. they painted my hood and roof under a customer is a pain in the neck clause - not under warrenty. they took no responsibility and said it was acid rain.

now the hood and roof look great and the sides of my car are the origional paint and scratch up like crazy. i am sick of it and dont know if i would ever buy another honda because of this. (along with getting 20 mpg on average city). i have a long scratch on the side of the car from tire to tire from a branch that was sticking out on a side road. would not have happened with a real paint job.

i also have the bumber issue that they never addressed. All dealers are different - mine kisses my butt but i know he could care less and just wants to keep my mouth shut.

i think some people have figured out the solution to this problem already but,i put a rubber washers in between the bumpers and the fenders so no paint rubbing problems for me there. i think it actually looks a lot better now that i put the washers in because the gap is perfectly even. ill try to take some pics for you guys this week.

I don't know if I'm just lucky or if the car sitting in 115º and higher "baked" the paint, but so far I can't find any paint issues (I check at least once a week). Now, if I could get the thing to stop guzzling gas....

As I can see, there are many more with same paint issues as me.

So I come from Eorope and I bought a 2006 JAZZ sport - colour: vivid blue pearl.

Problem:
- the paint layer is too thin (someone scrathed it with somenthing on the roof - ffs)
- someone banged my passenger door (with his door prolly) and what is left is a bunch of scratch - omfg

I have it covered by insurance, but this wont save my paint problem.

I am going to visit my local dealer and try to solve the problem somehow. I am going to keep you updated...

I did manage all formal issues with my insurance company and Honda dealer. They will reapair the damage on my door (the litle scratch will get painted).

I have had a conversation with the insurrance valuer and he is a former Honda dealer. He said, that only blue (dark blue) and one more color are critical - the layer is too thin. So my next "quest" is to claim it.

I have spoken to the service manager for Slovenia. I was told that since 2000 EU has changed policy for paints: all paints must be made on water basis.

Result of this is: since then paints have become less tenacious and more fragile. So avoid any scratches.

I have also been adwised that the minimum layer of paint coating should be 80 micrometers. I am going to measure it and keep you updated...

My car is also build in Japan. But my front and rear bumper are completely different than those from american domestic market. I will try to upload pics from my Fit (JAZZ).

I own a red AT sports, so far no paint issues, as I only have a little over 400km on it. I am wondering if the solution to prevent the bumpers paint from peel is to put a little nylon washer to seperate the bumper from the body would give any Honda dealer the excuses of no honouring the warranty if the paint peel does eventually happen? Is it just better to wait for it to happen then try to get warranty work done? Anyone with opinions or experiences?

I just showed them where it was peeling and told them that I already did the Honda fix of putting washers in which may help keep it from getting worse but that doesn't help what's already peeling.

Waiting for the new sport trim to come in that they're going to replace since the paint is flaking off it and they'll repaint the bumper at the same time.

So I would say try to keep it from happening if it isn't already.

Rubber washers will prevent the bumper from rubbing but this is not the root of the problem. It is quite obvious that the paint job on the Fits is substandard. Rubber washers may keep the paint from peeling near the bumper joint, but what is going to keep the bugs from tearing holes in my paint? I don't think they make a bra that goes the entire length of the hood, and besides, it would look ridiculous. My parents bought a new car a month before me, a Toyota Camry and they have 9,000 miles on it. They drive in similar conditions that I do and the front of their car is pristine. The front of my car now shares more similarities to the 2002 Nissan Altima which has 125,000 on it.

Last month, a bird did its business on my car sometime between 8am when I had arrived at work and noon when I was on my lunch break. I had immediately cleaned it with a wet paper towel but I could still see where it was! It looked like it had eaten part of the clear coat away! I went to the car wash later and if I looked at it so light was reflecting off the paint, I could still see where it was. I tried some meguiar's stuff I had, no luck. It took a good half hour of rubbing in some 3M rubbing compound to get rid of most of it. I had never had this bad of luck with bird doo on a car but that and the bugs chipping off the paint really show me how unsatisfactory the Honda Fit paint job is.

I purchased a Honda because they are a name I've grown to know and trust. I've always considered Honda to be synonymous with quality in everything they make. If I had instead purchased a Dodge Caliber it would not have suprised me so much if I had substandard paint but I am shocked that Honda would have let this happen. I will be contacting Honda coprorate and my local dealership who although I did not purchase through them I hope will treat me as good as if I did. It will be a shame if I will have to drive 2-1/2 hours to the dealer who I did purchase from (due to the very limited supply of Fits in the US!) in order to get my problem resolved.
