What did you do to your GE fit today?
No side airbags. I chose not to have them when I ordered the Fit. The cage is mostly bolted in now after first buying stainless hardware. Stupid me had the front cross bar backwards, was slightly in the view of the mirror, flupped it over and perfect completely out of the mirrors view. The front bars are not bolted to the floor yet, will do this week. Chassis feels even more in check now, even more responsive. Loving it.

Smaller diameter tires only affect the effective gear ratio not the amount of torque applied to the pavement (well actually, through torque multiplication, it technically increases the amount of torque applied to the pavement but there is an averaging effect). It is a benefit to use a smaller diameter tire. Think of it like increasing your final gear in the differential without actually having to change final gears). I really don't know how to explain it in words. The diameter (really the circumference is what matters but if we know diameter we know circumference) of the tire is a gear. The tire turning against the pavement is a gear. A bigger tire makes for a taller gear and a smaller tire makes for a shorter gear. A smaller tire allows the engine to achieve a given speed with more absolute revolutions. This is good on nearly any IC engine. IC engines must achieve a certain number of revolutions per minute before they can produce maximum torque ... Actually, I'm not typing this out. It gets you in the power band faster and keeps you in a narrower band. This is good on a free spinning engine.
The absolute simplest way I can put this is... Nobody goes slower from changing 3.9:1 to 4.11:1 unless the engine has a cliff like high end torque drop off. (or you hit the absolute gear limited speed)

That being said... have two Fits with equal drivers to equalize shift timing, been pitted against each other in a straight up drag race, where the only difference is the tire size? If so, until the car hit its top speed, did car with the smaller tire lead? Or better yet, same drag done with much higher performing cars. Again, limiting the difference to just the tire diameter.

I just needed a cover for this weekend and I do not plan on using a cover often enough to justify buying one. That's more of a personal decision, though. If and when I do decide that I want to use a cover all the time, I will definitely be looking into something of higher quality (but of lesser appearance!
).

NICE! I'm planning to do one this weekend after finals and maybe post up a crude template or something. I'll be using foam poster board and then wrap it in cheap fabric to have a more semi permanent set up. The foam poster boards are like 1/2 an inch thick and very light; it shouldn't pose a major threat during an accident compared to ply or mdf.

As for the grocery basket... I'm trying to think of a "custom saddle baskets"... read: milk crates.
However, I haven't figured out how I'm gonna attach it securely enough so it won't rattle... and still be able to easily remove them when I want to.
Of course, possibly the bigger issue is... where to get some milk crates? "Borrow" some from a local grocer?
Right now, I'm trying to see what riding jacket and helmet I should get... it was freaking cold just riding it to a nearby SteakNShake... even though the top speed is only 45 MPH, I can't even get past 15 MPH without shivering. Granted, it was 10 pm when I was riding.
5 days only for the rollbar padding to arrive. Was hoping it arrived by Friday, but 2 days faster works. Got SFI 45.1 for areas in close proximity to head and door bars, that shite is still quite hard, but none of the bars are really that close to my grape. And the cellulose foam padding for everywhere else. Put a couple pieces on after work, no pics though, was dark already. Will finish up on the weekend. Kind of liking the single seater right now, if only it was dead center and the Fit was open-wheeled.
