How many miles? Ever replaced clutch before?
How did it happen?

88.5k miles... and nope, never replaced one before (on my Fit or otherwise). I would consider attempting it myself, if it had been summer time. But since we're in the middle of winter with a storm coming, I'll just eat the cost and let a qualified mechanic do it. Despite having a garage, it's too full to put my car in and still have room to work on it.

It had probably been wearing down for a while, just never really noticed it. But on this occasion, I was trying to cross the intersection quickly and pulled out of 1st with a snap (a hair too soon before clutch was ready?)... when I shifted into 2nd, I got nothing for power and some clunking noise.

I rolled into an open parking space and then rowed through the first 3 gears... no movement, just clunking noise. The shifting itself seemed normal. Initially, I didn't hear any clunking in neutral, so I thought it might be clutch or transmission. Then I had to leave my car parked there and borrow my sister's Chrysler T&C to do deliveries. After doing a few deliveries (when it seemed to slow down), I went back to my car to check it out a bit more... and I got clunking in neutral. Before leaving, I rolled my Fit back a few feet to better "match" the parking space since I was too far up (almost in the next space). Then, after talking to my brother, and despite my limited knowledge, my thinking is... the clutch/input shaft. Either the plates separated/disintegrated or even input shaft snapped. He mentioned (though less likely), it could even be the flywheel.

My thoughts were:
-If the transmission had seized, I would think the car would immediately stall out after shifting into gear.
-If it had broken, would most likely make it difficult to even shift into/out of gear... and it wouldn't roll in neutral.
-Even thought it could've been a drive shaft or something snapping, but that wouldn't explain the clunking noise in neutral since those are "after" the transmission.

Unfortunately, the one thing I didn't do... try shifting without the clutch pedal... though, at this point, it probably wouldn't contradict an issue of clutch/shaft.

*sigh*

It doesn't sound like it's your clutch that wore out.
Sounds like something broke there. You can only find out once the transmission is taken out or otherwise inspected closely.

Maybe it's also the fork? Btw, I would inspect the axles first (also the clutch fluid in the reservoir).

Good luck, let us posted.

At 88, would have been nice to use an extended warranty but sounds like you don't have one.

I did have the extended warranty... for all of a month, then I cancelled it.

I've been trying to google clutch, transmission and input shaft to get a better idea of what the issue might be while waiting for the mechanic to call me back with the number for his tow guy. Leaning more towards broken input shaft.

Of course, there are a number of possibilities...

But you're right... the only real way to find out is to have it lifted up and checked out.

my battery was giving me problems last night. did a quick drive to 7-11 and when i came back to the car, it wouldn't start. good thing i was close enough to home so my brother in law can give me a jump. spent last night researching batteries and decided to get the Interstate Mega-Tron D51R 500 cca. it was on sale for $99.99. Installed it a few minutes ago. Had to chop off the left and right battery tray walls. That thing is still on there tight.

Was gonna make another 51r battery thread...

Second oil change, 23,044 miles.

I've been wanting to do it for a few weeks now, but it's been too cold out to bother. Then on Friday night the maintenance minder hit zero. So seventeen degrees and windy or no, the car got its oil.

I was starting to notice the clear coat peeling on two of my center caps. Wanted to try to address the issue without having to buy new ones so I was able to sand off the top layer of clear with 2000 grit sand paper and follow it up with metal polish. They look better than new!

^SSR center caps seem prone to clear coat failure. Both of my sets of Comps have had horrible center caps.

Whereas my Rays have always had mint center caps.

Good to know, hadn't seen the issue on anyone else and my buddy from SSR was stumped as well. Luckily it's an easy fix.

Would have liked to run their new line of slimmer caps but they don't fit this wheel

Slight update to broken Fit....

Mechanic said axle broke (dunno which). So we're gonna replace that (or do both?) and go from there...

Almost $1k in parts for both axles (bernardiparts.com). Better than $1400 @MSRP.

I've seen it on many SSR Comps/Type C in the past.

Thanks! me too.The rims I got the car with I didnt really like and these came up really cheap $600 CDN with skunk 2 lug nuts so I couldnt refuse
They are 205,50,16. I would of went with a lower profile say a 45 or even 40 if I didnt like driving so much. I wanted a comfortable ride so I didnt want a lower profile tire.

I installed the USB audio interface and adapter attachment.
It works great! The user interface is much friendlier and much faster than the one on the Alpine stereo in my previous car. The audio interface is quite a bit smarter, too, able to deal with more MP3 variants than the Alpine did.

Happy, happy, happy!

If I was not offered to buy my friends SSR's I was going to get a set of 17" RPF1's

You should make a build thread, would like to see your progress
