I drove my Fit for economy and when switching to premium my mileage did go up, especially in the cold weather where it really did well, like 23 mpg before and up to 28-29 when using the BP Ultimate.

Honestly, its pretty mixed over there with how people drive their CR-Z's and really no benefit to which mode you drive the car in, a guy did a test with all three and not a noticable difference. The ECON mode is brutal and I've got one use for it, during the winter on snowy days it will serve as a secondary form of traction control because it really bring the perf down, alot!

We'll see what my first tank of BP Ultimate nets me this Friday when I get gas again but I can say that the OBC showed me a figure of 41.4 mpg 2 days ago and I'm driving the car just like I drove my Fit

Cooler weather is gonna use more fuel than in the summer. Air is denser so more fuel is needed, but there is also more power to be had too.

Gas at 1 station I go to was 339 for regular and had a line around both corners. I think they made a mistake and put up the 3 instead of 8. Too bad I didn't need gas. I will check it out on Monday and see if its still low but I think they will correct it by then. They are also in the process to changing to half winter fuel by Oct. 15 but I think the station I went to by my work already has a mix of it. They lower the price to lower the summer fuel stock since they cant do nothing with it after the 15th.

I got 41.3 mpg when gassing up this past Friday, OBC showed 41.8 mpg and its not even close to being broken in. I'm driving out to Grand Rapids to do an exterior detail on a Bondurant Contour SVT this Saturday, so I'll get a chance to see what kinda of HWY mileage I get before my trip down to the Dragon in 2 weeks....on the road again

Well the Fit blew away its numbers of 29/33 and I expect the CR-Z to be likewise, I mean its already doing that with my first tank of BP Ultimate, right. The CR-Z is rated at 31/37, mixed driving on my first tank netted me 41.3 mpg, I wonder what the freeway trip has in store for me this weekend, we'll see

I found out why the government has not changed the regular only kick. I found a report that is very informative from the EPA and is 40 years old.

Cant post links but found out in 75 Honda used 96 ron in their tests with a 8 to 1 compression 1.5 liter motor.

OBC is showing 40.6 mpg right now, uh oh, looks like that drop-in K&N is making power, mileage is dropping already J/K, its been a bit cooler out as you know and last Friday had a "spirited" drive out to the FNL's show, its fun wringing the car out sometimes......not that I can hear anything though

Its cooler and I am noticing a little lower mpg, put I am also going faster and have the lights on more. Considering your old mpg 40 is very good for your driving cycle. I bet you will see near 50 or more on the highway.

I got 40.8 mpg today when I filled up, slightly down but its been pretty cool in the morning. As far as 50 mpg on the freeway, I doubt it because my Fit would get about 4-5 mpg better on the freeway, so I'm not sure about that but it would be nice

The final drive ratio on the CR-Z is 4.11 (thinking Beach Boys now as I type this!), so its got a higher final drive than the Fit for sure, the 5AT Fit has a 4.58, (same as an EVO IIRC) It does have a taller tire than the Fit and is more aerodynamic too, I guess we'll find out soon enough, the Dragon run is 58 hours away and to get an accurate mileage number I need to top off here Thursday morning when we head out on the highway (Judas Priest song now!!) and get gas before I get into Kentucky and its hills.

My mpg is down 7 percent the last few tanks, but that is to be expected when the lights and heater with the colder air. My fuel trims are lower and seeing higher loads compared to the summer. 38 is still not that bad and I need a oil change too.

I seen the CRZ website and some are saying they are getting over 50. I think it is possible but maybe not with the gas and weather changing, but next summer I would not be surprised to see you saying 50mpg. With the double overdrive I think you will be surprised. Have fun at the Dragon and be safe.

Yeah the 5th and 6th gear aren't much different, makes you wonder why they did that, maybe 5th should've been a bit more aggressive and then 6th a "TRUE" overdrive, I mean, its only a 4.11 final drive afterall.

As far as the weather goes, well, its been cooler but when does the winter blend start back up again? One of my buddies down in TN says he paid $3.35 for premium, so its still about .80 cents more than we paid last year....thanks Bush, oh yeah, we can't blame him anymore, so who's fault is now libs

There is an arrangement between the companies that sell gasoline in this county.. We always pay more than we would anywhere outside of this place, especially in cities but they are far away.

I paid 3.90 for premium on Monday. The price should come down by Oct.15 because they stop using toluene and alkylates in the winter gas. You should still have them in your gas.

The price will never come down around here. We end up paying more for the RFG gas that gets worse mpg.

Here is a condensed version of what I have observed. I have a lot of papers saying the same thing. http://www.anl.gov/PCS/acsfuel/prepr...03-94_0273.pdf

It looks that there can be even better mpg with higher unleaded octane than 93.

Wink The CR-Z mileage numbers

So here's the freeway numbers in order of fill ups:

-39.1 mpg (from Chicago to northern KY, doing 70-75 once out of the greater Chicagoland area, before that about 65 mph)

-40.8 mpg (northern KY to Tellico Plains, doing mostly 75 and in the hills)

Coming home after ripping through the mountains:

-41.9 mpg (Tellico Plains to northern KY, mostly 75 mph and in the hills)

DRUM ROLL PLEASE........................

The last leg of the trip, from northern KY (same gas station area) and on into the greater Chicagoland area netted me 43.6 mpg doing 70-75 with 60-65 mixed in at times once near the Chicagoland burbs.

Now, FWIW, I did use the ECON mode but its not like it limits the power of the engine or cuts off fuel or something, but it slows everything down and makes you shift sooner, but I would use it once I was in 6th though. I may be going to Detroit in November and since that's flat compared to where I went, I may hit 45 mpg, but then again we'll be using that winter blend so who knows.

That is impressive, it looks like as you drove the car tuned up for better mpg. Tomorrow I get my oil change even though I still have 1000 miles till its due. My mpg was really bad this tank but I did a lot of city driving and idling. 36 mpg.

Sounds like you had fun too. People that went are talking about it.

KA, You asked me a while back what factory fill is, I just found out ConocoPhillips ( thanks to serverservice), they are moving away from Mobil1. Not that M1 is not a great oil but there is no more guessing what they use. I have 21000 on the Civic and they said I need a trans service. I guess the fluid looked bad.

They did not have any Fits or CRZs. They dont know when more are coming in. They sold the last shipment in a few days.

I noticed that when the reset the MM that my fuel trims zeroed out so I think that the MM and fuel trims reset at the same time.
