Now you have the lights drawing on mpg. Read somewhere that a discharged battery will use 8.6 percent on mpg but dont know for how long. Being 1 pound low on air in the tires will hurt mpg by 3.6 percent but they did not state too much.

My mpg is down the last few days but still over 40. The cooler and less humidity has an effect on mpg.

I check my air pressure about every 2 weeks or so or when the temps change alot but I always keep the tires a little higher anyways, 35 psi. I have HID's that use less power, so not as much draw on the headlights but right now, I'm very happy with the mileage, soon the trip home will give me some new numbers

You will have better numbers and should be a very quiet ride back home. I am happy with my numbers too. 41 last tank and more suburban driving with more lights. Havnt check the tires but checked the oil level, still full and have 5000 miles on dealer oil. I probably should check the tires but my mpg is consistent so they are OK.

Bad mpg has a lot to do with short trips. Oil never gets warm enough and even though the car is at operating temperature the oil could be 50 degrees less than the water temps. Also dont keep pressing on the gas pedal meaning just press down far enough and hold it to get to speed and then let off a little. I see people pressing more and keeping higher loads. I found my self doing that but noticed I could maintain and accelerate ever so slightly and keep the loads below 70 percent. I see 55/60 instant mpg at 65 mph. I was reading that if you open the throttle body to much the vaporized fuel will turn back to liquid and coat the walls which wont burn then, more fuel is injected to produce power and the liquid gas is wasted.

Exclamation Heads up

Been running premium the last few months and switched to regular a month ago. MPG is up.
Will be posting a new thread in another month [or so] to document it.
All a part of trying to understand my real world.
It's really not where you drive so much as how you drive for economy.

FIT be smart...

KC, What is the elevation where you drive? I am surprised your mpg is up on regular compared to premium. I though you would have said I get 10 mile more miles but not worth the extra cost. It does depend on where you live because gas blends are different and driving conditions too. Also oil has a lot to do with mpg. Oils that protects against wear do not get better mpg and oils that get better mpg dont protect against wear as good.

My two year average with premium in the Fit was around 38 mpg. The 3rd winter my mpg fell to 32 but then I got the scan gauge and was working on getting the mpg up. I had two tanks of 43 before trading it. I blame the drop on motorkote with synthetic oil, less friction requires more fuel in winter to produce heat. Every time I used regular my mpg immediately starts to fall especially at lower rpms(higher loads). On my wife's car I seen the fuel trims at 0 and the average instant mpg is in the low 40s with 30 or so mpg to the tank. My car on premium the fuel trims are -5.5 and change more frequently which means the ecu is pulling fuel and instant average mpg is in the 50/60s with the tank mpg 42-43 so far this summer. It also changes with the EGR, premium has less EGR and burns most of the fuel compared to regular.

I understand every car is different even in the same make so premium is not be for everyone.

NE driving - local @800'msl - Maine @200'msl - highest driving point in-between @1600'msl - lowest 10'msl.

I'm waiting another month to get a feel for local mpg then another 800mile round trip north then will pull it all together; New Thread w/ comments/thought/opinion.

patience grasshopper...

OBC is now showing 37.2 mpg with about 1/4 tank left but today I did get on the freeway for a bit but this morning it was in the high 36's I'll probably get gas tomorrow, wanna let that Speedway gas get out of the system but I must say, the mileage hasn't been affected, so its good in a pinch, I guess!

Yes we are, I have my altitude density set for 650' in the tuning computers in the DSMs and the Fit. The FIC is out of the Fit at the moment and pending sale to go towards funding a full AEM EMS II for the compound setup

I think I am putting the other ECU in the Laser tomorrow so it'll be good to go for saturday if your around!

If I have time I may throw a bigger pump and some 850cc/min injectors or bigger in so I can show you some basic tuning stuff out side of MAF comp and fuel/timing tables.

Not necessary, but if you do grab that camera from your sons maybe we can get a shot of a couple pulls and some tuning stuff for shiggles. If not oh well

The camera comes back tomorrow. They are taping races at the track with different team cars. I wish I was there to see them. I am looking forward on the tuning to pull it all together for me. I read it but seeing it is another story. I said 700 to cover the high points in this area. Every one thinks this area is flat but its not totally flat. Lots of wavy hills and bridges.

I used Iso Heet a few tanks ago got great mpg. Its falling a little but still over 40. I dont want to keep using it but it works.

37.4 mpg actual, the OBC showed 38.2 and that was with the Speedway 93, got the BP Ultimate in there now but it looks like the heat is coming back a little bit for the upcoming week but atleast I don't need to use the a/c in the morning. It looks like the a/c use is good for about a 5 mpg loss but weeeell worth it this year, no doubt about it

I predict 40 mpg on the freeway trip, no problem

Thumbs up

38.8 mpg actual as well as what the OBC showed. Had a little bit of a drive out in the country w/o the a/c on but earlier in the week I did have to use the a/c, so it balances out IMO. The mileage is rising for sure, even better than what I was getting before when using regular 87 octane BP/Shell. The next test is the drive home, whenever that happens. My oil indicator is showing 10%, so another Mobil 1 0w20 oil change is in order before the trip for sure, not to mention sticking with the Royal Purple synthetic oil filter again. Not sure why that filter is keeping the oil cleaner than the Mobil 1 but I know this, I'm sticking with that filter for sure

I am glad your mpg is way up. I guess the A/C uses more gas then a few percent. Maybe next year learn to use it for a while and turn it off and cycle it to stay comfortable, Its a little more work but it saves money.

So it was pretty damn hot today and the OBC is down to 34.5 mpg compared to 40.0 mpg when leaving work this afternoon. I kept the windows down on the way home since it was late morning leaving work but after washing my car I didn't wanna put the windows down, so the a/c came on and then I had to go out to Wal-Mart for a super deal on Mobil 1 5 quart jugs, so the a/c was on again. I picked up 1 jug of 0w20 for me and 1 jug of 0w30 for my g/f's Mazda for $55.90 w/ tax. That breaks down to $5.59 per quart after taxes. Compare that to $8.49 per quart from Autozone, even if they pay me to shop there I can not pass up on saving $3.00 per quart, thus saving me $30.00 total over 10 quarts

Looks like the humidity is going to be coming down, so the mileage is going up and on Sunday we're changing my oil and then next weekend I'm gong back home, so that freeway mpg update will be coming here afterwards

0W-30 is like 5w20 for the first 30 hours but then it thickens up a little. Have not seen what 0w20 does yet but will find out.

Drove the wife's car a lot last week and her mpg is only 32 mpg with regular. I thought with all that driving back and forth to the wake and funeral it would be higher. My car is still getting over 40 mpg with similar driving so there is a difference.

Lower humidity raises the octane requirement. That's why when it humid out I see my fuel trims lean out getting better mpg. Lights are being turned on and I am seeing the fuel trims lean out too but the engine loads are higher so more fuel is being added and corrected. At 65 mph I see engine loads in the 70s and higher with the lights on compared to 50s with them off.

What have you heard about the mileage on the CR-Z in the "real world"

My brother brought home a 6MT CR-Z same day I got my Fit. Over 6,000 miles he is averaging 46mpg. His previous car was an Insight and averaged 51mpg.

He drives like I do, doesn't waste gas but not a granny driver and no hypermiler by any means. That's why we both got MT, not for mpg but for fun factor.

Is he going by the OBC or using the "old school" method of figuring the mpg? I'm "looking" into one right now but they're hard to find due to the tsunami. A dealer near me has a Milano Red 6MT base but I just can't have a red car, its not me. I want the Storm silver, period and I'm willing to have to have a larger payment to the get the EX package too, for an extra $30.00 a month you get:

-leather steering wheel/shiftknob (quality feel everytime you drive the car)
-Blu-Tooth (nice feature)
-polished pedals (sweet)
-HIDs (no biggie as the DDM kit is $50.00)
-some nicer interior bits
-360 watt stereo
-foglights

Like I said, just "looking into it" right now but I've always wanted a stick and after my test drive, the car is a blast to drive and gets better city mileage than my Fit and with the way I drive to and from work, it should easily get over 40 mpg.

So with "normal" driving his CR-Z is averaging mid 40's

Mpg calculated at the pump and averaged over 6K miles and 17 fillups. Almost all with A/C usage as he lives in AZ.

98% in normal mode, he tried eco mode and it sucks. Sport mode is nice but uses quite a bit more gas.

I averaged my Civics mpg and its 36 mpg lifetime. I had a bad winter and the bad mpg really brought my average mpg down. I was experimenting too with mid grade and shell premium so I probably lost a mpg or 2 average. This winter and here on out I will only be using Bp ultimate from 2 stations 1 near work and the other by my house. Its still better than my wife's 30 mpg in her Civic and my Fit got 36.5 life time with 3 winters and 2 summers using Mobil1 5w20.

Next oil change I might use 0w20 and see where my mpg goes. Right now I use Honda's 5w20 bulk oil in which I was told Honda sends them.
